It brings me such joy to imagine how happy Yankee fans were after this game, and then conversely how disappointed they were after Damon's grand slam in game seven.
Yeah after this Yankees win, they looked like they were gonna win this series for sure, but the Red Sox never quit even after this game that would knock the wind out of your sails
As a Yankee fan, this is painful. It was there for the taking. A chance to crush the souls of Red Sox nation. To throw salt in an already bloody wound. Especially after the Sox took us to a game 7 the last year in 03 and was 5 outs away for moving on. To come into this series and within a blink of an eye go up 3-0, after thinking the Sox would put up more of a fight after 03, it was too good to be true. Like are we really going to sweep the Sox? A team who vastly improved and was better than the 2003 team, are we really going to sweep them? And then Dave fucking Roberts happened. That’s how you break a curse. Hats off to you motherfuckers!!! Lmao
@@sandman4115 Same. It's like How? How did this just happen? I'll never forget that when we lost Game 6 I said "It's over". And the reason why I said it was over was because Kevin Brown was our Game 7 starter. Wtf was Torre thinking putting that piece of trash out there for a Game 7?
@@greatestnitemare6626 it was either brown or Vasquez. El Duque had a dead arm, Mussina just pitched game 5. Lieber, ironically our best pitcher already pitched game 6. 28-3. The Yankees never blew any type of big lead in their losses....They just lost their games in a very rare and dissapointing order. The" level of chokeness" in 04 is a little overrated. 86 Angels were worse 86 Sox were worse. Maybe the 96 Braves.
The Yankees had a tremendous offense in 04, but had horrible starting pitching. Their bullpen was over used throughout the season due to the ineffectiveness of the starters. Gordon couldn't put his cap on without wincing in pain by August, Rivera was constantly being used for 4+ outs, Quantrill was pitching 3 or 4 days in a row without a day off. Not resigning Clemens and or Pettitte was a terrible non move by the Yankees.
@DVJFan Torre ruined Sturtze and Gordon from overuse. Mussina's best days were behind him after 03, Vazquez was a 3 starter (at best) and a choke artist. Brown's back was shot, and the offense had to win them so many games. Throughout the season, the Yankees would quite often be behind by 2+ runs in the 2nd inning. Offense went cold after game 3.
Everything you guys say is true however the true tragedy was not resigning Pettitte and/or a top/elite pitcher. Yankees would probably have swept or won in 5 games.
@@vladiator8120 If you remember, the Yanks wanted Schilling, but he wound up in Boston which is when they shifted their focus to getting Arod. Look what's happened since then. One championship in over ten years, constant October chokes, and the aura of supremacy is gone.

16 yrs later and I’m still sick over this series! 🤦♂️. I’ve hated the Red Sox since 1975, but a strange twist to my personal feelings is that as a fan, I did, in a strange way felt “good” for Sox fans! 86 years of disappointment and heartbreak, not just for losing, but coming so close a lot of times. It’s one thing to lose, but when bizarre circumstances and being so close to victory only to lose is a very bitter feeling. So for me it’s bittersweet, all the people who watched them lose, to look at their parents and grandparents and say “we finally did it!” To be able to tell their children and grandchildren that “You were there when it happened” all those type of personal feelings for the average Bostonian that were dedicated, die hard fans. So while I hated to watch my beloved Yanks go down in ‘04 to the hated Sox, I felt happiness for the fans 👍
