My mother was a planner and we would bake “goodies” in the evening starting in November. She froze those. Then right at Christmas she would make her husband, herself and others trays of goodies to carry to work to share🥰. It made her so happy to share and give to others💜
It's a wonderful Life is definitely my favorite Christmas movie and that's one that I usually don't watch I actually think I watched the past 2 years... But I want years and years without watching it. It's funny how the things we like the most are the things that end up on the back burner.. I also do really love baking cookies and treats. And that often times is something that doesn't happen either.
It's also helpful to openly discuss budget concerns, agree to keep things simple, draw names, create boundaries.... we all need more peace and less stress so we can enjoy events, movies, and gatherings that bring us joy!
I hate obligated presents. My siblings and I and their kids don't exchange gifts and it is so nice! Our other side does a grab bag.... And buy nieces and nephews gifts. I would rather just skip it and hang out and have fun.
Our family is all about traditions like advent candles, decorating cookies together, watching "It's a Wonderful Life" and eating breakfast for supper on Christmas Eve, etc. My teenaged granddaughter and I started a new tradition a couple of years ago. She spends the night with us, and we watch Hallmark Christmas movies and play Hallmark Bingo. We made an exhaustive list of things common in these movies, and we mark them off our lists as they appear. This year, we are going to eat a Hershey kiss every time something on the list appears. Now that she is off at college, it's a wonderful way for us to reconnect with special time together. Love Christmas. I do get stressed with food prep for our large family gathering.
Hello from California! Kathy here. This year my kids will be in Australia for holidays so for the first time in 35 years, I am taking a break from the massive decorating that I usually do. I bought a tiny tabletop tree for my husband and I and am very excited about taking a break this year. I will still cook but only for the two of us.
Christmas movies yes! I want to make construction paper cutouts with different movies on it that we can put up as we watch them. Like maybe they're off to the side and then we put them in an area on the wall when we watch them. And we can use and add to them each year. I think that would be fun. Maybe I can get some painter's tape or make a big Christmas tree on the wall with other construction paper and then have like little cut out ornaments with a movie named on each one. I think that would be super fun and it would be great because I feel like at the end of Christmas there's always movies we like didn't get to or didn't necessarily think of and I think that would be a reminder to make that a priority in our lives. And it would be a fun tradition with our family.
🎃 Happy Hallowe'en! 🎃 We are so low key and minimal for all the special occasions to the point that we agreed to remove the stress of buying gifts last Christmas.
We do Thanksgiving with our own family and nobody else. Turkey and the fixings and we watch home alone to kick off Christmas movies I have gotten guilt trips about that but we actually do go to family Thanksgiving, just not on Thanksgiving day typically it's like that weekend before or after. However things lineup for everyone's families. Add one family's thanksgiving we pick grab bag names. That family does Christmas grab bag party where we eat and open the presents. Close to Christmas. There is a work party we attend. I have a volunteer event for school. I have multiple kids concerts to attend I think I have four different concerts between two kids. Most are week nights. We also have a lot more practices for one of my kids. And Christmas we usually get together with the other side of the family on Christmas Eve or a nearby weekend day. And Christmas Day at home. Which is laid back. Snacks and ham dinner. And a big mess of stuff.
Another thing I do that has HELPED in planning for Christmas, is write down Christmas tree lights, needed....ribbon....gift boxes, ECT. and put it on the month of September when I receive the new calendar in January... This has been HUGE in planning. 😊
When my mom was here she loved thanksgiving. She put her thanksgiving “list” on the refrigerator in October. Had fancy rolls as she called them. 🥹🥰 Miss her
I hate the holiday season...... As a mom. I loved it as a kid. But I am the one who is in charge of all the stuff and it is too much for me. Even doing bare minimum. We don't do a ton but because of ADHD the basics involve so many teeny tiny tasks that all add up. And have time lines attached that sneak up on you or change and that gets frustrating too. Because things change. I've had it where the kids wanted specific items and then they literally like take those items off of their list.... And add other items. Sometimes asking ahead of time for costumes or presents can end up running out of time and being stressful. I feel like it all sucks. Honestly I think the consumerism and the gifts is the best part I am not a gift person!!!! It's always nice to get a gift from somebody but I would never expect a gift from anybody and I mostly just want to spend time and enjoy the people I love more than anything. I really love quality time I also like acts of service so when I am being the service for everybody I think I get resentful because that's not filling my cup.... Just depleting it. It gets exhausting and never feels worth it. But also Christmas is important to my husband. And gifts for kids. But financially and the planning is too much.
Some of my family members create wish lists on Amazon, and include small, medium and larger products they would like. This really helps us buy gifts for them that they actually enjoy! The gifts can be purchased from other places as well) It's si.ilar to how your Mom texted ideas to you. ;)
I really love buying someone a random present when it isn't a holiday. Like if I see something I know they would love throughout the year.

Vitamin d with k2. K2 helps with absorption.
Do you have Pentatonix Christmas songs on your Playlist? They're absolutely amazing, and a beautiful fun spin on traditional songs.

"Wonderful Christmastime" is my least favorite as well. That and "Christmas Shoes".
