Stockton - On - Tees - Town Centre- Walk September 2024

A walk round Stockton On Tees County Durham. Stockton is part of railway history as being part of the 27 mile long first public (fee paying) railway in the world. The route goes from Shildon Via Darlington to Stockton On Tees.

A shadow of it's former self. Weekends it would be booming with the market running from the parish church to the taxi rank past the shambles. Then the council started screwing constantly with the high street layout and killed it. Weekend nights were also very busy with hundreds and hundreds of people out enjoying the pubs and nightclubs. It's now a place I very rarely spend any time in.

I lived there from 1960 until 1995. Character, soul, heart, all torn out of the town. From Dan T Smith and his friends up north, to the present administration, every change for the worst.
