I’m glad I found your channel, i just bought a 2017 Accord 👍
Thank you for this because I can use it to prove my dad wrong haha
I get it, great information for people who probably change their oil every 2-3 years and totally neglect their cars, LOL. One thing you should mention when refilling the fluid is to put it back to where it was to prevent over filling if your pads are low at the time you do this.
You just confirmed my thoughts 👍. Being doing it but still unsure if it's ok. I always think of 50% good fluid is always better than wait until the whole thing go bad. 👍👍👍. I called this, dilute it, you will get it better.
Manual says every 30k miles or 3 years regardless of miles
I actually did this method, I used a pump (From an empty hand sanitizer) and refill. Great easy method
Good information especially for a very important part of the vehicle to be able to stop it efficiently. Brake fluids are as important as any other fluids to make the vehicle operate properly. Thanks for this video.
Repeat in a week once the 50:50 mix has diffused the fluid lines, and you have a 75% refresh
Exactly. Repeating this step several times will do over 90% of the job, plus new brake fluid is so cheap anyway. My local shop wanted $250 for my old car. No thank you.
I got at least give you credit for the awesome details. Thank you. I appreciate it.
I bought 2006 Toyota Camry at new and I still have it. I have never added any brake fluid or flush it. Now it has 150,000 miles on it and still drives well without any problem. Am I lucky to own this vehicle? So far in my life I have owned about 6 new vehicles and about 5 used vehicles and I have never flushed brake fluid any of the vehicle that I have owned. And I can't even remember adding brake fluid.
If you flush your brake fluid i guarantee you'll feel a huge difference in the pedal stiffness and braking performance.
@@birdness totally agree! Never did anything with my brake fluid either until recently I did maintenance regularly with all other aspects..I definitely noticed a difference!
That doesn't make it right.
Great tips, but why you need to use a runner anyway?
Nice comprehensive video. I just have a few questions: Aren't you just supposed to remove the brake fluid until the minimum level line? Won't removing it all the way to the bottom introduce air into the system?
I just did what you said but found the esp and brake light are both on? Could anyone told me what’s wrong with it? Thanks
You could do this and then a few days later do it again. Eventually you will have all the old out and new in after a few times. Yes taking the wheels off and opening up the bleeders is the way to go but for someone not wanting to do that I think you could eventually have a fully cleaned system. At least way better than old.
Wondering if the fluid in the lines actually intermixes with reservoir, or just compresses under pressure in the lines.
@@nathanbruneau1822 Well my theory doesn't work. I just looked it up and it does not circulate from what I read. So really it needs to be pushed out from the looks of it.
@@bradh7472 if it doesn't circulate then why do you need a reservoir?
@@dagg310 To hold the fluid I would imagine. I read that it doesn't circulate like you would think but again that is what I read because I was wondering the same thing.
@@bradh7472 yes but if it doesn't circulate, why do you need to hold so much extra fluid in a reservoir? doesn't make sense. i think it does circulate but very slowly. someone mentioned they emptied the reservoir many times over a few months and eventually the liquid stayed clean. maybe all the bad fluid doesn't get fully removed but at least this is better than nothing
Can u add oil if u at 50% if u outta town on a road trip
My service advisor at Honda told me that tech noticed that break fluid in my vehicle wasn't good and needed to be replaced. Offered me a $130 service to bleed breaks. I declined and told him that I will suck it out of the reservoir(as you have in the video). I did that to power steering fluid however I kept sucking/adding every day for a week and this made fluid clear. Will that work if I do the same with break fluid? Suck the fluid, pour new, drive for a day, then repeat one or twice more?
yes, this method will work. just do it 2 or 3 times. drive it around a week and then do it a second time.
You will never get all the contaminants out that way, specially the ones close to the calipers
Great video. More please.
Yes!
This video 📸 give me a clear prospective how to do it yourself making sure 😃 that all four Wheels must bleed out until the new brake fluid appears by pumping the brakes continuously with all caps closed 🔐 I think 💬 will do this great 👍 video 📷
Thank you😊
I saw the max line on that reservoir but I don't see the min line. Where is it?
Honda charges $166 for the works.
Brake fluid is the only thing that I have never had fail on me and I have driven over a million miles in more than 20 cars.
1,000,000 miles among 20 vehicles would come to about 50,000 miles per vehicle, so not a very good indicator of what's bound to fail and what is.
thanks for the effort, but what about the wheel cylinders and lines ?
No foam test with the brake fluid? 😀
Can you do a video on a coolant flush for the honda accord.
You should add some brake fluid to your foam cannon It’ll strip everything from your paint 😉
Is the dark color indication of moisture in the fluid or something else?
I got all new pads and rotors and now when I go to hit the brakes it goes to the floor making a hard grind. Do you suggest a brake fluid flush
I AM NOT A MECHANIC but I'd say check your calipers and bleed the brakes if you haven't. Sounds like you might have air in your lines
Is clutch fluid the same thing as brake fluid? It’s been a long time since I had a manual transmission, and I don’t remember.
It's all brake fluid.
You should use strainer when You put new oil in the reservoir.
Only older cars have strainers. It's not needed anymore brake fluid has come a long way.
Groovy!
Thanks, great video.
Never empty your master cylinder dry, air might get in the system
Luh. I've been doin this method and I zero my master cylinder. Never got any problem 🥴
The reservoir sits on top of the master cylinder air rises so you can fully drain the reservoir the the bottom without emptying the master.
I jus drain with baster and fill..is this ok?
A brake fluid ," Refresh," annually is fine. With fancy ABS braking modules or Hybrid regenerative brake modules that have plastic and cheap metal , running a ABS purge cycle on a older car is asking for trouble.
@@ferndog1461 what would happen..i do it to my 2016 Honda accord..and 2000 Buick regal
@@edubb2491Older Hybrids, model 2004-2009, Prius had trouble with brake bleed process outcomes . Once the cars are > 5-7 years old, several dealerships will decline to do the service manual documented brake bleed process. Too many comebacks and $$ malfunctioning brake systems.
3000000 on prius . Never changed no problems
3 million miles! Wow 👏
If I do the change is it still necessary to bleed the brakes?
i want to know
No
Do i need to bleed or can i just replace the brake fluid like you did?
Need to bleed after change
Next do a video on how to DIY a blinker fluid swap with a Turkey baster
How do you know when it’s time to change your brake fluid like if I was to flash a light on The container what color should I be looking out for to know when it’s time to change
Most vehicles about 2-3 years but depends on driving conditions and such. If your car ABS light is on for sure you need new brake oil also pedal problems or if really bad oil you can sometimes smell it (burning). But if nothing seems off you can also just look inside your master and inspect the oil see if it looks dirty (clean brake oil is pretty clear)
My 2019 Honda Accord just flashed up a code 7 on the maintenance reminder which is brake fluid change. That’s why I ended up here. Like many here I’ve never changed brake fluid. Always thought it was a scam at the instant oil change. For the amount of effort it takes to do this I think I can give it a try. Couldn’t hurt Thanks for the video
brake fluid tester on amazon for $15. IMO its a good idea every 30k miles.
Hell no brake fluid is not perma fluid..i jus changed my 2000 buicks brake fluid..it was black and stinky compared to the new fluid in the bottle..clear as day no smell ..its been there for 20yrs..oops..now i know..
Im here
If I do this every 3 months eventually will it completely flush out the old brake fluid?
Yes, pretty much as diffusion levels out the water content
Ask cotty Kilmer who hasn’t changed his for 12 years on his celica.
Which combination of brake fluid is the perfect 10?
1 part brake fluid to 1 part blinker fluid
TSTK 28 I poured the brake fluid out of a left handed bottle and I’m right handed so the engine became noisy
Wait a min so I was told.my brake fluid was low. So I can't just add more brake fluid and call it a day?
Yes, as long as they don't need to be bleed. If they are not squishy and your brakes are responding you are okay
You can't do it by yourself because someone has to pump the brake pedal and hold it down whilst someone is opening and closing the bleeder valves on the wheel cylinders
Sure you can, just use a pressure bleeder (which is actually the correct shop procedure for many models).
brake fluid if not change after years it causes damage to caliper cylinder gaskets and master cylinder...causing huge damage in terms of costs to fix and re build.
dont ask me how I know that😳😳
Only 20.00 💵how to exchange brake fluid? #1 clean the reservoir remove the cap&filter ,#2 seringe the the fluid to👉minimum line #3 fill it to MAXIMUM 👍🤓SAMARRUDA247🐝🐝👈👉drive for a week & repeat two more times .DONE 20.00🐝🐝🙀
At 2x speed this is dreadfully slow
becouse your not stoned enough
@@Cursed_Bowergood one!!! 😂😂😂
I didn’t want a lecture. I just wanted to know how to do it. Get to the damn point already.
Don’t watch and move on. Other people appreciate the effort.
If you do 3 rounds of this over a few months of driving, it will replace over 90% of the fluid.
