The biggest issue with this is that Apple is way less forgiving of third party products than the likes of Facebook. When I first got my Quest 2 I felt exactly the same regarding discomfort - but having upgraded to a highly-recommended third party strap, I can comfortably go 8 hours or more with it strapped to my face. Any time I'm working from home, I just throw on my Quest and I'm sitting in a ship in orbit surrounded by 4 floating screens - one of which is my code. Sure I need my laptop still sat on my lap to do so, but working in a multi-monitor environment with the only wires being the one plugged into my laptop for power (because gaming laptops suck back battery like nothing else) - it really does do the thing you described where you're just "working in another world".

It is impressive actually. You’re talking about satellites traveling 15k+ mph attempting to align a hairpin laser on a moving target traveling 500+ mph in either the same direction or the opposite direction without skipping a beat. All the while carrying enough bandwidth for upwards of 200 passengers presumably all trying to do the same thing. So, yes, very impressive. Technology is incredible.

I wonder about that. The headset doesn't seem to be much heavier than the index i own. At first i did feel a little uncomfortable when wearing it over 3 hours straight, but a month later i was wearing it 6 hours no issues on weekends. In the end, you can't please everyone, some people will be more succesptible to this type of things, like typing without watching the keyboard, that's something i mastered 15 yeras ago and it takes a little bit of rewiring anytime i get a new keyboard. So i don't see how an almost touchpad like keyboard is an issue unless you've developed tics like wanting to hear the keys or feel them being pressed rather than just feel the taps. Other VR headsets have third party head straps that make them much more comfortable. I'm sure manufacturers will be making more comfortable third party head straps for the Apple Vision Pro in time.
Hey man, great video. I've seen a significant number of people on twitter originally say they had discomfort but went back to try on a different sized light seal, and that that fixed things for them straight away. Some people will also have different experiences to others regardless too. But maybe worth trying a different seal given you're within the 14 day return period? Another suggestion I've seen is to use the solo band but instead of having the band straight back in line with the actual headset, instead tilt it to a 45 degree angle so that it's resting further up the back of your head. Keen to see if this improves things.

Have you used no other VR headset for productivity? So many of the reviews of this are from people who've literally never looked at virtual desktop or similar options that literally do. this. exactly all of this.
I just used mine for the first time on a flight and it was amazingly comfortable. A few observations. 1. Put it on at your seat don’t walk in with it 2. Doesn’t work well while taxing; very bumpy image and will cause nausea 3. Close your window as this affects tracking even in travel mode 4. They asked me to take off during take off and landing for safety. They treat it like a large electronic device 5. Use partial environments so you can see when flight attendant is near 6. Use AirPods/ear buds and be ready to switch the transparent mode when flight attendant is servicing 7. Bring 30w charger or battery to recharge Following these guidelines made the experience very very comfortable and I loved the huge screen and especially enjoyed the environments. I didn’t have to lower my hear to watch anything. When it was time to sleep, I already had my mask on. Very good use case.
Comfort is certainly the main drawback with this and all VR headsets. That being said I can use the VP for 2-3hrs without issue now. There's at least two things that play a role here, one is to take 5-10mins break every 60-90 minutes - thats valid for regular computer work aswell, and second is that you just get used to it eventually. When you put a VR headset on for the first time there's muscles that are just not used to that strain and it can get painful quickly, it gets better after semi regular use ; it took a few months playing with the Quest3 a few times a week for me. In my experience thats valid for motion sickness - I can actually use the vomit inducing regular FPS movement in VR now - and strain on your head. That being said the default headband with this - and the Quest3 - are Hellraiser levels of pain, I just cant fathom why they think its ok. They are painful after 5-15mins of use if not immediately for most ppl and they are super easy to put in a way that just hurts badly. The headband with a strap at the top is mandatory imo and to me they are fumbling here when they dont make that the default option, the current default bands discourage ppl from using it after trying it for a bit.
Your opinion is kinda moot if you haven’t tried other headsets right? The things you are impressed by (like, being transported to a more spacious place and watching 3D movies) - they all accomplish that.
@@NDnf84 Technology can be used for good or bad. There are absolutely dystopian uses of this tech. But there are also plenty of tech free dystopian future scenarios too. The problem is that these tech companies (among other big money interests) control the government and control their own regulations. Not that they build cool gadgets.
Awesome, v fair review.. personally, I felt it wasn't that bad wearing it for half a day w/o breaks (just my eyes felt a bit tired), but also wasn't using it on a flight haha btw, are you a kiwi living in Germany? I think you're my opposite.. I'm a German living in NZ lol cheers, mate..
It’s great for watching movies on an airplane. It’s hit or miss on the comfort. Sometimes I can wear it fine for two hours and others it bothers me after 30 minutes. I did make the peace sign with my fingers and used them as a tripod to help prop up the headset off my nose. Hopefully some 3rd party head strap solutions will come out soon.
I'm not surprised you found it uncomfortable. The base apple straps just feel like they learned nothing from other VR headsets. Hopefully 3rd parties can make far better straps for it. They definitely did for the quest. Also I agree, VR is really the only true way to watch 3d movies. Been doing it since the release of the OG Vive in 2016 and I can't go back
The third party straps will have to have that input that connects to the battery cable, and that’s proprietary I believe. So did Apple lock the AVP from 3rd party straps?
@@catfishvega3728 No? The battery cable input is part of the headset itself. Its part of the speaker grill component. Straps dont touch it. You can legit use duct tape with third party straps for other headsets to just experiment rn.
I can wear the dual loop for 4-5 hours - but the trick I learned is first fastening the back loop, keeping the headset a little higher over your eyes then fastening the top strap. I've gotten some pretty perfectly balanced fits, before that I was fastening it too tight and it would put the pressure on the head or cheeks. That's what I'm guessing happened to you
I really appreciate my quest 3 3rd party head strap I can play for 2 hours before needing a break and usually that’s for my eyes than head discomfort. Hopefully someone will design a halo strap or a padded elite style strap l it will make the Apple Vision Pro even more of a gamechanger
I flew from JFK to HNL non-stop in coach. Easiest 11 hours i have ever flown. Flight didn't have wi-fi so I had downloaded everything in advance. I guess I am one of the lucky people that can wear this thing with the single loop band for multiple hours with no discomfort.
Provided this does well enough as a product I would hope that it will get lighter and be less of a burden to wear long term. It will be interesting to see where this goes in 5 years time.
Wow, Jono, this makes me completely think differently about Apple vision pro. I may not buy it yet, but still it seems truely worth it regardless how ridiculous it looks 😂
I guess we'll have to wait for a 3rd party addons. pads and straps to really get the job done and have a comfy experience for hours. Great video as always, thanks! Hopefully the apple strap and pad is not DRM protected and won't brick your gear if you replace it with some 3rd party parts LOL :)
Honestly my issue with VR (apart from the fact that your milage is going to vary depending on how your vision is) is the fact that headsets seem needlessly clunky. Get a headset to about half the width of what it is right now, and I'd probably be more invested in it.
What intrigued me most is how you were watching Avatar in 3D. This didn’t even cross my mind when it comes to VR headsets. I dusted off and done some digging with my Oculus Quest 2 on how I can access 3D content. It’s very limited. UA-cam has some 3D content, and watching a 3D movie would require me to torrent a 3D movie file and transfer it from my PC to the headset in order to watch it (with a 3rd party app I should add). How accessible has Apple made their 3D content? Is it an option in Apple TV app or other streaming apps?
Guess watching all three extended editions of Lord of the Rings is not going to be comfortable then. This is the best review I've seen about the device so far, thanks
@@isaac_marcusThe Vision Pro uses what's called foveated rendering. That means it tracks your eyes and only renders the exact bit you're looking at in full detail. It can leave the rest blurry because your vision isn't that sharp there anyway. The advantage is that the processor doesn't need to render as many pixels, and the tracking is good enough that you don't notice it when you're wearing the headset.
You need to get fitted for a different light seal. The light seal that I was measured for from the face scan was totally wrong, and uncomfortable. Went to an Apple Store to try many different light seals until I found one that was the most comfortable. It's also important to have the right band size too. I was also measured for M via the face scan and that was wrong too. I swapped to a S for both and now it's the most comfortable. Might be tricky since you're in Europe, but it should be released there soon.
The windows being tilted like all of yours in your screen shots is something that I see on my AVP and that really bugs me as it is distracting and a waste of time trying to arrange them so they are straight with the horizon when looking straight at the window.
Yeah doing it with crappy resolution lol finally have something with 4k. Makes the experience so much better tbh. Happy apple is in the space and can do it right.

6. Use AirPods/ear buds and be ready to switch the transparent mode when flight attendant is servicing
7. Bring 30w charger or battery to recharge
Following these guidelines made the experience very very comfortable and I loved the huge screen and especially enjoyed the environments. I didn’t have to lower my hear to watch anything. When it was time to sleep, I already had my mask on. Very good use case.
@MegaLag what a man of culture your are, listening to the Rufus du Sol live set is one of the best live sets I've ever seen in my life
Rufus is amazing 💙

@@doctorduck2000That's fair
It could have been a good idea to do that because, the comfort = time/how long you have it on for.
Nobody cared when it was cheap and affordable, but everyone cared when it was apple.
Because it’s better
Yep, Apple advertises everything like they invented it and have the best

I've seen a lot of people saying the quest pro and quest 3 don't compare to the vision pro at all. They are made for different purposes.
Ich freu mich auf das Video
very immersive 💀
You’re back! 😀
Basically, it's the iPhone 1. A cool preview of what will one day be pretty awesome. Especially when companies other than Apple make it.
Its genuinely disturbing to me that people see something like this and look forward to a time when its widely used.
Awesome, v fair review.. personally, I felt it wasn't that bad wearing it for half a day w/o breaks (just my eyes felt a bit tired), but also wasn't using it on a flight haha
btw, are you a kiwi living in Germany? I think you're my opposite.. I'm a German living in NZ lol cheers, mate..
Babe wake up megalag posted
That's what I'm guessing happened to you
Im curious how can this device work for you if you have prescription glasses?
there are prescription lenses as an option, watch a proper technical review
Matthias cameo again! Let's go!!!
I really appreciate my quest 3 3rd party head strap I can play for 2 hours before needing a break and usually that’s for my eyes than head discomfort. Hopefully someone will design a halo strap or a padded elite style strap l it will make the Apple Vision Pro even more of a gamechanger
Do you keep an AirTag with your Vision Pro?
Hope he sends the Vision Pro to North Korea next time using DHL
wdym?
Great vid megalag never disappoints
Hellooooo I knew you would post something like this so I had your tab open 😆
5:47 I knew it :)))
This is what a real end user review should always be , I spilled my coffee when that particular theme came up 😂😂😂😂
🤣
Sounds like vr with apple pricing.
How are you using it in europe. Do you really need a US based apple id?
Once you set up an Apple ID in the US you're good to go. Not sure how people in Europe buying them on Ebay are doing it.
@@MegaLag thanks!
3rd party head straps should infinitely improve the comfort, it definitely helped the Oculus enjoyment.
Can't wait to buy a lighter, more immersive, more comfortable one for less than 2 grand a couple more years later.
that will be 1,999usd starting price
Honestly my issue with VR (apart from the fact that your milage is going to vary depending on how your vision is) is the fact that headsets seem needlessly clunky. Get a headset to about half the width of what it is right now, and I'd probably be more invested in it.
Check out the bigscreen beyond then

What intrigued me most is how you were watching Avatar in 3D. This didn’t even cross my mind when it comes to VR headsets. I dusted off and done some digging with my Oculus Quest 2 on how I can access 3D content. It’s very limited. UA-cam has some 3D content, and watching a 3D movie would require me to torrent a 3D movie file and transfer it from my PC to the headset in order to watch it (with a 3rd party app I should add). How accessible has Apple made their 3D content? Is it an option in Apple TV app or other streaming apps?
I have no idea about Apple, but you could give Disney+ a try. If it works, please let me know if it’s good!
@@MegaLag Well, how were you watching Avatar in 3D on your Vision Pro?
@@fty-ys4ni Disney+
@@MegaLag Sweet thanks
Guess watching all three extended editions of Lord of the Rings is not going to be comfortable then. This is the best review I've seen about the device so far, thanks
How did you get your glasses prescription as a non us resident?
I couldn’t :/ but my vision isn’t that bad. I’m slightly short sighted and have astigmatism in both eyes
@@MegaLag Maybe this was a joke, but could that be why the passthrough was blurry/noisy? Or should that not be an issue/you were wearing contacts?
@@isaac_marcusThe Vision Pro uses what's called foveated rendering. That means it tracks your eyes and only renders the exact bit you're looking at in full detail. It can leave the rest blurry because your vision isn't that sharp there anyway. The advantage is that the processor doesn't need to render as many pixels, and the tracking is good enough that you don't notice it when you're wearing the headset.
I actually enjoy watching slightly unhinged content (especially plane crash documentaries) on the plane to make people think I'm crazy
great way to use that sound byte as i’m in the shower at 3:00 am
The colorblind glasses plug 😂😂😂
I’m sure some airlines will start to ban the use of these due to health & safety.

2:00 When YOU are getting people's reactions.... Is APPLE getting people's reactions? WHOA.
The windows being tilted like all of yours in your screen shots is something that I see on my AVP and that really bugs me as it is distracting and a waste of time trying to arrange them so they are straight with the horizon when looking straight at the window.
But did he Pay Import Customs / Taxes on it. Thats the real Question here!
Shoutout to those of us who’ve been doing most of this on flights since 2018.
Yeah doing it with crappy resolution lol finally have something with 4k. Makes the experience so much better tbh. Happy apple is in the space and can do it right.
