Come on now, Phil. Shoeless Joe hit .375 and had zero errors in the 1919 series. His 12 hits in the series was a record that stood until 1964. Sure, they put $5,000 in his hand, but he tried to return it and they wouldn't take it. Can we really call a guy who never learned to read or write and hit like that in a series he supposedly cheated in a true blue cheater? I don't think so. Cool cards though. Sweet Spahn auto. He was awesome in his era.
was about to write the exact same thing. doing some research before you blindly call someone a cheater would be nice. BTW, he hit the only home run in that series as well as posting the high average
@Ratt 64 not a dimwit, but uneducated and therefore easily manipulated. On the right or wrong tip, how about all the pitchers who used spit balls and cut balls? They're Hall of Famers, legends, and they knew what they were doing was wrong. Should we cast them all out as cheaters? Shoeless Joe had one game without a hit in the "Best of 9" series, where they played 8. We can't go back and ask him, but he was pretty adamant when he was alive, and the batting average and zero errors in the field are undeniable stats.
@Ratt 64 If you ain't cheatin...you ain't tryin!!!...you speak of these events as tho you were there...present for every little nuance and interaction that went down. We both can agree...that you were not apart of the Black Sox?...you weren't the starting left out for them?...the bat boy?...So you might wanna relax the certainties and absolution a little bit. And cheating is a term that has different meaning to different people...not to mention the time period that we cannot possibly understand... As long as there is sport...there will be gambling...and as long as there is gambling...there will be the imperfections of the human being by way of greed and need. Comisky the owner is in the HOF. What was his record?...how did he put his players in a position to be approached by organized crime...and in a position of needing money to the point that the players had to wash their own uniforms...plus pay for transportation and meals. Let those without sin cast judgment first...WE CERTAINLY CANNOT ASSUME THE WORST WHEN WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT EXACTLY THE FULL STORY IS.
100% love the nostalgia boxes, but I would killllll to see you rip flawless and national treasures. Also a huge fan of you throwing hockey rips in the mix here and there. You’re my absolute favorite card collecting channel. Thank you for the content Phil!!! You are awesome..
Woah woah woah Shoeless Joe didn't do it. His team mates yea cheats but Joe was clean. Look at his stat lines from that world series and tell me he was trying to lose on purpose.
@Ratt 64 he was manipulated into signing a confession he could not read. His teammates who did throw the game came forward and stated he never attended the meetings or took part in it.
Not sure if Phil will see this or if anyone else has said this yet but, Joe Jackson did not cheat, he was found quilty with the team but the whole team admitted Joe had no idea what they were doing.
Got a box of this for my 23rd birthday in 1999 a Mazeroski Century Epic Signatures on card auto hand numbered to 100 and a Tony Gwynn Jerseys of the Century GU JSY card. Thanks for the flashback!
Hey phil, Im 14 and i started collecting cards a year ago. I just love watching and learning about different cards/players. Im only 14 so i have a low budget but I do what I can to collect and you have really inspired me to do so!
Just finished cracking 10+ boxes of 90 thru 94 MLB cards....variety of brands!,,best breaking fun I've had in a long time....almost all in amazing condition
Met Spahn and Sain at a store signing in the early 90’s. Stopped by the store with some buddies on our way to class (University). They couldn’t have been any more down to earth if they had tried. As we were leaving they asked me/us what/where the best strip climbs were and how to get there. Looking back...I should have hung around and escorted them there myself. Now that would have been one hell of a night!!!! LOL
I always love you videos Phil I love the way it is edited together and things like that and of course one of my favorite part is when you tell the stories from your playing days and i was wondering if you had any items that you have collected that you might be willing to show on your channel keep up the good work
Joe Jackson did not cheat. He was lumped in with his teammates who were throwing the series. During the 1919 championship, the slugger made no errors and racked up 12 hits, a World Series record that stood until 1964. His batting average for the series (.375) was the highest on either team. He claimed his teammates gave his name to the gamblers even though he hadn’t agreed to participate, and the other players admitted that Jackson never attended meetings about the fix. Though Jackson signed a confession in 1920 stating that he was paid $5,000 (out of the $20,000 he was promised), he later asserted that a team lawyer manipulated him into signing a document he didn’t fully understand. (Jackson was illiterate, never learned to read or write.) He also said he tried to return the money and talk to White Sox owner Charles Comiskey about the plan both before and after the series, but was rebuffed. The more you know.
Really dig the 90's cards, upper deck, spx, finest even stadium club. I heard you say early Topps Finest took you back to when you got into collecting, that's when I got serious about collecting cards and selling them at our flea market. Thanks for the walk down memory lane ! Keep busting , I'll keep watching 👀✌
@Ratt 64 Broke the rules, yes. Actually tried to throw games? No. Yes I know it's semantics but still I'm quite certain he has paid his price. Even murderers get parole after 25 yrs.
@Ratt 64 I'm simply stating that the punishment for his supposed crime far outweighs the actual act. 100+ years for simply accepting $$ and not reporting the conspiracy to MLB. Not actually going through with his end of fix. Does that sound justifiable to you? I think his crimes are far less than that of Pete Rose. Let him be the poster child for the perils of gambling, because that is all his ban is. On a somewhat unrelated note. I find it very hypocritical that baseball is making money off his likeness while still enforcing his lifetime ban.
Ratt 64 I’ve given up as well. People don’t listen to me for some reason. I know my facts. And no problem. I like to do that when I see someone who actually knows stuff
I remember getting that box when it came out and I think it was about $80 but I can't remember who's auto I pulled but my # dye-cut was of Mike Piazza. Very cool to see the cards from my collecting years would like to see some UD Legendary Sweet Spot open sometime in the future. 😊
Hey Phil. Love your content. Would love if you could tell us on every video how much the boxes are. To see how much the return is. There's no judgement in spending a lot on boxes that most people can't afford. We come here to watch high end stuff we can't afford!(at least some of us) Keep up the good work Phil!
One of my favorite books to read as a kid was Shoeless Joe and I! Definitely a good story about a great player who couldn’t write and how he wasn’t really a part of the cheating
2006 Upper Deck Epic. Best comparison I can think of is to Topps Tribute because it's still going for up to $300, but has an interesting checklist of relics if nothing else.
Johnny Vander Meer played mostly for the Reds and is the only player to pitch back to back no hitters. Though he did end up eith a losing record overall for his career. Played from 1937 to 1951
It would be super cool if you opened up 2004 Donruss Classics! As a kid, it was my favorite product but I could never afford to buy packs of it. I remember searching the 25 cent bin for the commons :)
Some awesome last pack magic for sure! Sick hit and some nice cards. I’ve heard you can put some of those early to mid 90’s cards in the freezer for a couple min and helps with the sticking. Not sure the actual time but it may be worth looking into.
Just so you know, Bowman has dropped because Target released them early so they are available at Target shops if there are any left. If you want to check there are Bowman 2020 chrome cards on eBay
Wow, i said it once Id say it again. You sir are destined to pull legendary pitchers.... Good stuff enjoyed the good rips and awesome and creative edits, keep it up and see you next time.
Hey Phil... see if you can find 2003 Upper Deck classic portraits baseball. Those were the ones that had cards AND a bust of HOF players. I always thought those were cool. Keep up the good work. Enjoy your videos!
Johnny Vandermeer threw 2 consecutive no-hitters in 1938. Your caption guy shrugging his shoulders leads me to believe you didn’t know who he was...... great video as always, keep up the great work
I really like when you post the prices of what cards are selling for, can you also include what you are getting the boxes for? Expecally on the older stuff. Or at least an average box price what they are selling for?
It's crazy how that autograph has sold for so low. It's on card, legible, and one of the best pitchers of his era. It's not like he was an ok player that is still around signing everything like crazy. $30 seems way too low. I love sets that have a mix of stars and veterans. It's why I like sets like Topps Archives or Stadium Club. I love the throwback vibe of seeing names from an older era.
I feel like Phil totally missed the point of Yogi telling him that. He wasnt saying throw it down the middle he was saying have the catcher set up in the middle so when its off the plate it doesnt seem so far off the plate
Jackson would have gone down as one of the greatest hitters, if not the greatest, of all time. He didn't throw the series - his team did and he caught the flak for being illiterate.

Yeah, field of dreams. Needs another watch.

Phil, your editor does a good job.
Great job
Absolutely an epic signature! My grandfather watched him pitch at Braves Field in Boston during the 1948 World Series.

@Ratt 64 Shoeless Joe was innocent... smh
Shoeless joe took the money. He was part of it.
@@andrewarndt9493 He was forced to take it. He also didn't know what it was for. His teammates didn't explain and shoeless Joe didn't know.
@@hooniesscc nobody can force you to do anything. He could’ve said no or walked away but he took the money. Therefore he was part of it.

At 5:20, Eric from Jabs Family pulled that Mickey Mantle "turning two", as he phrased it, a few months ago in a random box break video.
That Spahn auto was incredible. Nice little head-shot and a gorgeous on-card clear auto. Who cares about price. That is a PC hit, Phil. Congrats!!!
Met Spahn and Sain at a store signing in the early 90’s. Stopped by the store with some buddies on our way to class (University). They couldn’t have been any more down to earth if they had tried. As we were leaving they asked me/us what/where the best strip climbs were and how to get there.

1996 Leaf Signature Series baseball- first of its kind and epic. You've got to do a box of those!
Thanks for doing these late 90's breaks. This break alone brought back alot of memories for me it was an awesome time in baseball AND life!
sweet Seaver base! gorgeous cards. and Spahn was inducted in ‘73

Hey Phil, take a look at Joe Jackson's 1919 World Series state before you call him a cheater
@Ratt 64 Broke the rules, yes. Actually tried to throw games? No. Yes I know it's semantics but still I'm quite certain he has paid his price. Even murderers get parole after 25 yrs.

Cool autograph. My son is a distant relative of Warren Spahn. We'd always pick up his older cards at shows (back in the day!). LOL
Phil you should do some more 2018 series 2 and update.
As a Braves fan, I would be shaking to pull a Spahn like that. Such a good looking design overall on the signature card. Really timeless design.
Love the 90s videos. Brings me back to my childhood
Everyone in the comments comin after Phil for that Shoeless Joe shade lol
Shoeless Joe Jackson's 1919 WS statline:
12 hits (then a record)
.375 average (led all hitters)
0 errors
1 put out at home
Wake up sheeple.
I remember getting that box when it came out and I think it was about $80 but I can't remember who's auto I pulled but my # dye-cut was of Mike Piazza. Very cool to see the cards from my collecting years would like to see some UD Legendary Sweet Spot open sometime in the future. 😊

Juan Gonzalez was a two time MVP during the time of the heavy hitters and people seem to forget that.
love these late 90s and early 00s boxes. makes me feel like im 10 years old again
Got to meet yogi also, such a nice guy. Sitting with a bunch of kids and chatting them up.
Late 90s Flair Showcase would be fun a fun break.
One of my favorite books to read as a kid was Shoeless Joe and I! Definitely a good story about a great player who couldn’t write and how he wasn’t really a part of the cheating
Johnny Vander Meer threw no hitters in back to back starts. Pretty sick.
If you can find 2001 Fleer Legacy Baseball Hobby Box they are fun to open. Each box has a full size autograph hat.
I will never financially recover from being inspired to start collecting cards again thanks to you ...
And yeah, thank you Phil.
Wow, I had some of these cards! I must have had a couple of packs. Remember this design very well!!
Very cool product. Love the old stuff. Please tell more Yogi stories even if you have to make them up.
2006 Upper Deck Epic. Best comparison I can think of is to Topps Tribute because it's still going for up to $300, but has an interesting checklist of relics if nothing else.
Couldn't put together an All-Century team.....BUT, Ty Cobb is my favorite player at all time, hands down.
Johnny Vander Meer played mostly for the Reds and is the only player to pitch back to back no hitters. Though he did end up eith a losing record overall for his career. Played from 1937 to 1951
Very cool break. Keep up the good work Phil. Enjoyed every minute of it.
I believe Warren Spahn was inducted into HOF in 1973. That’s a cool set. I’ve never seen those cards before.
A couple weeks ago I saw a case of 2005 absolute on ebay. That would be awesome.
It would be super cool if you opened up 2004 Donruss Classics! As a kid, it was my favorite product but I could never afford to buy packs of it. I remember searching the 25 cent bin for the commons :)
I can’t believe a psa 10 of that Spahn only sold for $80. Dude was a machine and a legend.
7:00 thought when he brought that up towards his face Phil was going to say, "I feel like I will know just by smelling it."
Some awesome last pack magic for sure! Sick hit and some nice cards. I’ve heard you can put some of those early to mid 90’s cards in the freezer for a couple min and helps with the sticking. Not sure the actual time but it may be worth looking into.

Keep up the good work. Enjoy your videos!
I'd like to see you open the oldest box of topps baseball you can find for a price your comfortable with. 1992 bowman would be sweet as well.
1996 leave signature series! Any of the old auto-per-pack stuff is fun; hit or miss, but great trip down memory lane
Johnny Vandermeer threw 2 consecutive no-hitters in 1938. Your caption guy shrugging his shoulders leads me to believe you didn’t know who he was...... great video as always, keep up the great work
Phil I recommend 2013 topps. I love 2013 topps
I really like when you post the prices of what cards are selling for, can you also include what you are getting the boxes for? Expecally on the older stuff. Or at least an average box price what they are selling for?
Give Juan some love and check out the home run derby with him and Griffey!
i love your stories when you were playing. you probably could have a channel just based on that.
love hearing stories like the yogi story in your videos!!
I wish i knew about these when i used to collect cards in the 90s i would have loved them. I like sets that have current and past/hof players in them.
Amazing auto, live these throwbacks.
I pulled a Bobby Thompson signature. It looks like the Spahn card but has the Polo grounds in the background.
2001 UD Gold Glove is such a great product, would love to see some of that opened
My biggest fear with old UD is the cards sticking to each other, even in a well air conditioned storage location
Cool looking cards 👍 Would love to have that Nolan for my PC.
I don’t know the year Spahn was inducted but I know that my dad worked with Spahn’s sister, which is pretty cool to me
That auto is awesome! It blows my mind how some of these absolute legends are $30 ON CARD...
Design is dope fresh, never seen these cards before!
That Nap La Joe card you said is a pretty good one.
I love the slow addition of current memes, this is a constantly growing show. It is amazing!!
Great video, nice box. Also, you told a story from your playing days, Yogi Berra style. Thanks for that. And the peasants rejoice!
100 years later, and Phil is talking smack about Shoeless Joe. That's just vicious.
Johnny Vander Meer was the only person to ever throw back to back no-hitters
Phil, you should know about Johnny Vander Meer! Two consecutive no-hitters, probably the record that stands the least chance of ever being broken
Nostalgic look, thanks for sharing
This is great. I just finished this set last week.
I love that Bob Feller base card! Beautiful! He’s my PC!
ben grieve, ben mcdonald, gregg jeffries , gary sheffield, kevin maas, poopy schultz, all the greats!
Pretty cool design and I love the Spahn auto
It's crazy how that autograph has sold for so low. It's on card, legible, and one of the best pitchers of his era. It's not like he was an ok player that is still around signing everything like crazy. $30 seems way too low. I love sets that have a mix of stars and veterans. 1998 Yankees All Century Team of course. No debate about it.
What about some 1999 or 2000 Fleer Skybox metal? That'd be fun to see
Phil it would be cool if you opened topps chrome or chrome update. great video as always!
Love the Impractical Jokers insert lol
20th century team lineup:
C: Johnny Bench
1B: Lou Gehrig
2B: Rogers Hornsby
3B: Mike Schmidt
SS: Honus Wagner
OF: Babe Ruth
OF: Willie Mays
OF: Ty Cobb
Phil single handily making my pockets hurt chasing down old Griffey cards. Griffey #goat
I never had sticky cards when I was growing up just sticking Playboy mags 🔥🔥🔥
First time ever you got a Mo Vaughn card and didn't say "I love Mo Vaughn"
love this product, used to have a lot of autos
Jackson would have gone down as one of the greatest hitters, if not the greatest, of all time. He didn't throw the series - his team did and he caught the flak for being illiterate.
I would like to see a 1995 studio baseball break.
that kirk gibson card was pretty cool
HOF Class of 1973! Go Braves
Gotta give love where it's due. Editor has been killing it for awhile now.
And as always great unboxings Phil!
Good job. Thanks.
Really enjoyed the look on these cards.
Great product to break. I can't say I ever opened any growing up. I wish I had as they look real nice
That was amazing story of yogi I never new he was that nice!!! Thanks for all the vids man!!!
Wow Warren Spahn auto awesome pull !!!
