Question for the people: Does anybody think $125/mo for a barrel king membership (1 bottle) that doesn't include shipping ($20) seems expensive? I totally get that sourcing the whiskey, multiple barrel finishes/blends, and branding all play a part, but man. $145/mo for one bottle is too rich for my blood. Cheers to those who can pull the trigger! They sound like delightful bottles.
They’re basically talking around GTS MSRP. I’ve had one or two of their releases that were good, but probably wouldn’t drop that much money because of FOMO. One I tried was okay, the other was pretty good.
I live in the STL area and a lot of people here are on the BK hype train since it's a "local" company (it's really not that local but they'll latch on to anything made in MO). I don't believe the monthly subscription is worth the cost, especially when I can buy Rare Breed for cheap at Sam's.
Tasted 79 and 80 on Saturday. I prefer the 79. I had the Philly blueberry right before so I think it muted 80. Probably going to get 79 but who knows if possible I’ll get both.
Just from the description on Barrel King's website, and before watching your tasting notes, I knew this was the bottle to get!! Thanks Matt for the video! Jarrod, you're the man!!
BK#80 is so damn tasty, wow! On my second pour, definitely a sipper. Oh, man! This is one of the best bourbons I've had, can match any Stagg Jr. and beyond. So savory.
I really want to get a membership. But I'm not sure I can finish a bottle of whiskey a month along with all the others I have to justify $125 and a drive to Bourbon every month.
I think its only $100 if youre picking up cause theres no shipping fee. Also they hold bottles for you up to 4 months i think so you dont have to get it every month. Hope that helps ;)
Would absolutely love to try a bottle of, Barrel King! Matt, does barrel king distribute to any states outside of Missouri? Or, if getting the gold membership, does the member get to pick which batch they get? Or is it random
You can only get a bottle of barrel king by being a gold member. You'll receive and email early in the month to go on a pick your bottle. The bottle coat is factored in with the membership butnyou still have to pay shipping ($20) you are alos able to add other bottles to the box for no extra shipping charges.
My first experience with BK was the Junkies Kingslayer pick. I signed up Gold in October and now have 10 bottles. This stuff is soooo good. I’ll be grabbing Batch 80 for sure. 🥃🥃
80 sounds right up my alley! I prefer creatively finished spirits done really well to the standard profile, older but traditional bottles. The January BK releases were both very good but more of the standard bourbon and rye profiles that I don’t need more of. I’ve tasted everything and own many of the best allocated from the last five years but I need creative finishes to keep me stimulated. It starts with a strong base spirit but I want unique flavor bombs to keep my interest piqued! BK is on to something with #80 (and I’ll order 79, too, but I expect it to be another 85-88/100 rating from me).
For those who don't understand - this is a biased review. Matt is an employee of Barrel King - It's like getting a recommendation from a Total Wine employee. I get that Matt claims he is going to be unbiased but it is simply impossible for him to remain unbiased when he is the master blender for this brand.
Tasted the January bottle and it was one of the best bottles I have had in quite some time. So even though Matt works for them and can be biased, it was a really good bourbon.

That's where I am too. Would love to have a bottle or two, but don't need to spend near $2k per year for 12 whiskeys that I'll hopefully like.

From the fuy who loves chocolate covered cherries...LOL!!!!
Best fleeting tastes:
1) Fruit Stripe Gum
2) White Tic Tacs
3) the Stick in Fun Dip
4) first sip from an 80s McDonalds Vanilla shake
because of the possible bias, maybe you should try these Barrel King releases in a blind and really see how good they are.

Can’t wait. Think I’m gonna get 80 and possibly 79..

Oh my, I cannot wait for my April email. I hope to buy both batches. Rock solid reviews once again Matt.
I miss hearing Jared talk but love these reviews by Matt! Hopefully there can be some more videos or lives with the two of them together!
You had me sold on the bourye when I saw the thumbnail, but now that I've seen the video I'm afraid it will be gone before I get my email. 🤞
Thanks for the vid! Cant wait to pick our bottle and try your blend too in April! :D
What liquor stores should I hit up as I am going to Washington Missouri next weekend?
Sounds freaking delicious
Joined last month and can’t wait to get the batch 80 😊

My wife does that too! 😂
Can’t wait!! Thanks Matt!!!
Okay, 80 is on my list.
Batch 80 is a fancy way to make flavored whiskey. I'm not a fan of using the loop holes to make a flavored product
oops guy
Digging the videos and once again congrats on the position! Unfortunately this bourbon's becoming a rich man's sport!
"Asian Flush" is a thing (it's a more common reaction among people of Asian descent)
Don’t think I can get Barrel King in Ohio, but point me where to buy it and I will!
That's definitely it!
We need more videos where you make kissing noises.

I wished distribution would reach here in Chicago 😢
BK doesn't ship to IL?
They ship to most states in the US. You will only find BK bottles for sale at 2 stores in St. Louis. Just sign up for gold!
@@jacksabo2339what 2 stores in St Louis I’m going through there next Friday. Thanks
Agreed, it's as easy as that.
@@jacksabo2339
I live in IL. I am a gold member. I received the Feb bottles via shipment no problem. Why are you assuming you can't get them in Chicago?
Is Barrel King available in FL.
You have to join their membership, but they do ship to FL.

Have you actually tired any of it?
@@deserabailey8500probably not.
Can I sign up for just one month as a trial?
I believe you aren't locked into any contract of any sort. You can sign up for a month and cancel, yes
Yes! But believe me youll want to stick around after you try them! ;)
@deserabailey8500 I don't doubt that for a second! However that is half my monthly bourbon budget gone!!!
Lol well, theres that, I hope you do it for at least 1 month then! Its really good stuff!@@brettmchan2855
@@brettmchan2855 I've been a member for almost 2 years and I don't really look for anything else. My budget goes towards the releases every month.
Real talk, garbage like "Stagg finished bourbon" is some punk-ass shit.
