  • As part of the Lab’s quantum information science (QIS) research efforts, Brookhaven leads the Co-Design Center for Quantum Advantage, a Department of Energy national QIS research center.
Scientists contributing to this center have designed qubits with record-breaking coherence using a metal called tantalum. And recent findings have revealed that coating this material with a thin layer of magnesium prevents the oxidation of tantalum and further improves coherence.
With continued improvement of qubit design, researchers are closer than ever to building incredibly powerful computers that will allow calculations not possible with classical computers.
