Very helpful, thank you. Just to add this: There are two kinds of monsoon seasons. There is also around October or later until December a monsoon coming from the north-east directions that can hit especially the southern gulf islands pretty hard. It usually comes with strong winds and sometimes hard rain. But it´s usually the wind that leads all the fishermen and others to keep their boats in a safe storm harbour.

The damming of the Mekong upstream especially in the main Chinese source rivers are affecting the viability of the Mekong for Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. This is a serious ASEAN concern with long term ramifications.

I recently moved to Chaing Rai from Bangkok. It's impossible to characterize the weather for all of Thailand. We've had a few days of hard rain and unlike Bangkok floods the total amount of rain (in the North) is still too low to refill all the rivers, lakes and reservoirs. This year's rain was just enough to irrigate rice fields now being harvested. The next season of crops are a gamble.
