Im the same way and always wondering why the other regiments didnt follow the 54th shortly after they made it to the fort. like, by the time they made it to the base, had the other regiments been like 200-300 meters behind them, they probably could have taken the fort no problem.

The 54th attacked in July 1863, and while they lost, they did a tremendous amount of damage. After 60 days of shelling, the fort was abandoned on September 7th, 1863.
Because the Confeds were Unfortunate enough to Bury the Dead Bodies near a Fresh Water supply, which in turn the Bodies decomposed and Poisoned the Water supply which so they had to Abandon the Fort.
The 54th Massachussets lost 116 enlisted men at Fort Wagner. They went missing. It is too bad most Massachussets citizens have mostly forgotten about what liberties these men fought and died for.
The emotionally stirring climactic music to the ill-fated Union assault on Fort Wagner, from the late James Horner's magnificent score to the equally magnificent film 'Glory' (1989). I detect the influence here of the first half of the equally dramatic 'O Fortuna' (from 'Carmina Burana') by Carl Orff.
There's an interview with Horner somewhere about this piece. The director used 'O Fortuna' as a temporary score for this scene and specifically asked Horner to mimic the piece. It ended up being a legal game of Chess as the director wanted the feel of O Fortuna but couldn't get too close to Orf's music without suffering legal ramifications.
@@brmadden895 Horner dealt with a lot of shit regarding his tendency to mimic music as a whole and reusing some parts of his previous works in movies - tbh in my opinion, I think that this is why his scores are so perfect and memorable. They always fit, and the moment I usually start to bawl my eyes out is when I recognize his distinctive crescendos, choirs, bells or anything that make my brain go "that's it, that's his music".
One of the greatest films of all time and one of the most powerful scores I have ever heard. Every piece of emotion is captured in it. I'll never forget the first time watching this movie, I was 13 years old. Should be required viewing for kids so generations never forget the sacrifices made and lives lost.

Usually they fought only by the will of those who commanded them, not because it was what they believed in their hearts. Black Union soldiers fought not because someone in charge ordered it to be so, they fought for the liberation of their people and free them from bondage.
Even though we will never forget what Lincoln did that he gave African American people a chance to fight for their freedom, and abolish slavery. This is very sad for all of us Americans have suffered to keep the struggle and pain through years. We as a nation was split into two for so many reasons, but in the end one took all of the glory. I grew up watching this movie over and over again. It is still one of the best and this score always sends chills and makes me want to charge in One Galliant Rush and yell, "Come On 54!!!!!!" Thank you Mr. Horner for this masterpiece. I hope everyone gets a chance to not only see this 1989 epic film, but listen to this amazing soundtrack.

To-day those brave doctors, nurses and other medical personnels are going to battle everyday to save lives. They all know they are risking their own lives too, they still going. This score really captures the emotion felt as they see Colonel Shaw killed and the 54th charging into battle. I love this movie.
This is like going into Orff's O Fortuna level of epic.
