    Alex takes you around his S500, a car he has owned for a few years now. Its a 80,000£ car brand new, but is it worth the purchase now they go for around 2-3k£?

    I bought my 2002 S500 Sclass 6 years ago for £2700 at 103000 mls its on 143000 now the engine is bullet proof as long as you reg service it, did a european road trip to Poland in 2019 did 2500 miles and used £500 in fuel which was amazing , ive replaced parts through wear and tear and i love my car and will be my final car to own so spending any money on it is my guilty pleasure esp as im an older guy so there is no other car i could get the same pleasure from driving , yeah it has lttle faults, no car is perfect

      I love the way this Sclass drives, they just waft along. Like you said the engines are bulletproof, you have just got to hope that no water gets on to any of those ECUs! On a road trip these cars are amazing as the make a long drive a lot less tiring. They are also great value for money just have to remember how expensive they originally were when they go wrong :D

      Awesome, they are great cars and I hope you enjoy yours as much as we did. If they are willing to put 12 month warranty on a S-Class it must be a good one!

      We would love to try one of the new ones, there would be so much technology I am sure we would miss some!

    i got a 2001 s500 and my airbags went out, was looking at $2500 per shock. I ended up putting it on springs for 1200 i believe. Yeah its not as leveled and cloud like when turning and going over bumps but hey its still nice.

      Air suspension is always a scare, and when the electrics start acting up things also get expensive. But they are nice to drive

      @@dwoolwichpoly9086 sure, I'm an owner for a year now. The Important thing that accured was a short rough noise when starting the engine up - the water pump was nearly dead and thanks to my good ear and the mechanic, it was changed before anything happend. Short rough noise after night may also be some an issue with timing chain and some models sounds like it. I also have a ticking noise after a night that fades after some time and this is probably made by hydraulic valve lifters. The car/airmatic doesn't drop down even after a week or longer stay, it only "reclines" down a bit when I stop for after the drive is finished- but this is how it should be. Sometimes I feel it maybe should pump up a bit more but no notifications pops up, may look into it, but after raising it by the button and then lowering it's perfect. I guess there may be some issue with one lever or levelling elements. Drives smoothly however. It take some 11-12l, maybe even less, on the highway when doing 120-130km/h. Best result was 9.6l (according to board computer) at around 110. City, around 15-18, but I hard to say, I live out of city centre and work outside as well. Let me know if you're interested in any other bits. Car is great and smooth 🙂

      And I've also had an issue with gear selector where the plastic "lever"? inside of it broke and it was very difficult to change from park to drive. There is a tutorial on how to get rd or exchanged it, but my mechanic who knows this issue with w220 took some 60 USD to get rid of it. When you take it away and don't exchange, the gearbox is not blocked anymore by pressing the brake pedal, important if you would leave kids in a running car!

    Great video! How old are you and how much is your yearly insurance on this if you don't mind me asking. I'm very tempted by one but as a 20 year old every instinct is telling me it's a bad idea haha

    • @HudRodAutomotive
      @HudRodAutomotive  3 роки тому +3

      We have a trade insurance for most. 22/23 years old. However, as long as you have No claims discount a private one shouldn't be too bad. and will only get cheaper as you get older. Cameron's halved when he go to age 21 on his 520d.

    Would you recommend W220 in Diesel? That 3.2 inline 6 diesel sounds a little bit cheaper to maintain etc.

    • @HudRodAutomotive
      @HudRodAutomotive  3 роки тому +4

      yes, that would be good. Much better fuel economy, but not as "nice" as a v8 car. Also maybe less spec? but will still be an awesome car!

      If its a CAT N id keep it pretty low, maybe around 500-800 there are quite a few out there if you look hard enough, I'm selling mine for around 2000, with 60k. A cat N car is very difficult to sell after unless you are looking to break it or take bits off of it.

    Engine and transmission are almost bullet proof. Everything else will eventually break. I have a 2005 S500. Had bimmers but Mercedes engine much more reliable.

    • @HudRodAutomotive
      @HudRodAutomotive  2 роки тому

      The engines and transmission are really great especially from this era. They do tend get there annoying electrical issues which can be harder than most cars to diagnose. No car is perfect though!
