Been watching j wongs streams of marvel. I know he's good but it really shows how huge the gap is! The amount of niche knowledge he knows makes it feel like no one's even getting past the knowledge check to fight the dude.
Oh i fought him alright... i landed one hit/combo. ONE. Edit: upon watching the streams and other stuff, for day one, i learned that this was an above- average result

"I know he's good" Dude, he's the most decorated fgc player in the world. It's arguable that JWong is the goat but there's no denying he's the best at MvC(2).
Imma have to give it a shot. I love to mash but marvel also has deep strategy amidst the belligerent offense so feels like a match made in heaven for me
@@Jardonius I like X-men VS SF and especially Marvel Super Heroes VS SF over MVC2, as those games are a lot more skill based imo. MVC1 onwards and the series is made in an SF6 style where anyone can win because of how silly the mechanics are.

@capemron6330 Justin said it's a mashing game not a mashers game. Mashing buttons gives you more hits and damage with most moves. Yeah. A lot of people don't know how to deal/counter Spiral teams and was surprised he didn't use Doom assist more. Good stuff! I saw the video and was like...Let me check this out.. saw that you wanted to see if you could get 1 win with using Spiral and I had my doubts, but you got the first W and was like... he did it! In this game, if you just LISTEN to others who've played the game for a while, you're going to be alright.

What's great is to see a large group of people playing this game who are decades behind and have NEVER played this game....while knowing how to do all this stuff myself. I need to hop online ASAP lmao
I feel like most of the coaching is teaching the general team play style but missing the fundamentals. Things like counter calling assist to punish and take your turn back, push block to stop rush down pressure and things like wave dashing to close distance are fundamental to being good at the game. Its the same for the opponent player, trained to tri jump, rom infinite and 5 fierce, but doesn't know when to jump out of drones, spiral swords and cable zoning. Its kinda like learning all the combos in SF6 in the training mode, but comes actual fight against players, doesn't know when to take your turn, space yourself correctly or punish unsafe moves.
that comes with experience and cant really be taught well in such a small time frame. its better to cover 2/10 things well in the few hours than cover 10/10 things lightly
@@TheSirAshton90 Fair enough, he really didn't have much time but still, some fundamentals can easily be taught by mentioning, without need to practice. Like reminding Dia to push block every jump in or dash in attacks and then super jump out of the corner after a push block instead of doing chicken blocks. Just these two simple moves would help him escape 80% of the pressure he faced in his matches.
@@oldboy65637 Unsafe is not the same as minus. Unsafe means punishable, minus means you recover slower than your opponent but still safe from being punished. Hence, you take your turn first when your opponent is in minus situation. For SF6, its quite easy since majority of the moves in the game is minus. Each character only have one or two normals that are plus on block. You only have to recognize which normals that are plus and you'll know every other normals are minus and you can try to take your turn after blocking them. But generally yes, you have to study and memorize which moves and normals are minus or plus, or straight up punishable. MvC2 is a little more complicated since you can call assist, so even when your opponent is blocking they are technically still "attacking" with their assist. Its more like counter hitting. There is alot more baiting of assist before calling your own involved or not committing to a full rush down so you can recover in time to block or dodge the assist.
I mean, there is limited coach and practice time, and fundamentals are really things that come with time, you can tell someone to pushblock, but it will take time until that actually settles in and becomes natural. It is better to establish a basic gameplan structure of what you should be trying to do (calling swords and basic spiral blockstring structure with assists; basic cable zoning, basic combos in HVB and AHVB looping for damage; pressing jp.HK in their face with Sentinel) so that you understand your win conditions and play to them, rather than trying to teach fundamentals that ultimately need playtime to establish themselves and have the player not have a understandable win condition that can be played to
The thing is, JM's tactic was doing work for you. The man could not deal with commando, who did like 90% of the damage in the first half of the round. Very little comboing or hits outside of commando assist jusy slapping.
When Justin had him in the corner I was yelling at the top of my lungs "PUSH BLOCK!" But then again, the fact that he did as well as he did with three hours of gameplay. Not bad bro.
Feel like what would've helped secure this win 10x more easily is learning two moves for Spiral (swords active) QCF + LK - Spiral will launch her swords in a blossom pattern, zoning out any rushdown opponents. Good at picking a spot and retreating to set up your assist call/future sword activation (air) QCB + Kick - Fast fall. Spiral will suspend her float speed and dash to the ground. Helpful to recover after sj. sword activation Spiral requires a certain level of wit and fluidity but once you activate her moves to help you squeak from danger into safety she can be one of the most annoying and taxing characters to play around in the entire cast
To get >5 AHVBs you have to tiger knee, pause for like 2 or 3 frames, then input the beam. The slight pause allows you to jump a little higher so the beam can reach.
Im surprised how good he got with such short amount of time to practice, you can see dude got some good instincts on blocking and punishing and he follows up combo into the super moves
jm didn't lie team scrub is an overall stronger gameplan, but you gotta be able to play cable and sentinel. diaphone put all his hours into spiral so sticking with spiral is best
