  • In this live chat, we discussed Drs. Baker & Shaw's latest publication on a case of "Rapid Complete Recovery from [severe] Autism after Treatment of Aspergillus with the Antifungal Drugs Itraconazole and Sporanox" (2021).
As noted in the manuscript (link below), "Escalation of the dose of itraconazole resulted in a complete loss of all symptoms of Autism over the course of 3 months. This rapid complete reversal of [severe] Autism is consistent with several articles proposing mold in general and Aspergillus specifically as a potential major cause of Autism".
Dr. Sidney Baker was the co-founder of Defeat Autism Now!, a national organization devoted to dialog among parents, practitioners and scientists regarding biomedical treatment options and the environmental origins of the current Autism epidemic. He received his undergraduate, medical, and medical postgraduate training from Yale University where he served as Chief Resident in Pediatrics on the full time medical faculty. He is the author of multiple books and publications and was the 1999 recipient of the Linus Pauling Award of the Institute for Functional Medicine for his contributions to the development of Functional Medicine, to name a few achievements.
Dr. William Shaw is board certified in the fields of clinical chemistry and toxicology by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and the founder of The Great Plains Laboratory. Dr. Shaw worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Children's Mercy Hospital, University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine, and Smith Kline Laboratories. He is the author of Biological Treatments for Autism and PDD, originally published in 1998 and Autism: Beyond the Basics, published in 2009. Dr. Shaw is the stepfather of a child with Autism and has helped thousands of patients and medical practitioners to successfully improve the lives of people with autism, ADHD, Alzheimer's disease, and other serious conditions.

How can I get this prescribed for my son? We have IEP, he’s diagnosed ASD. Since they do not classify Asd into ausbergers anymore , does that come into play?

He should be tested before he receives a prescription

My son regressed into autism at 3.5 years old and he didn't have any signs of autism before. He talked and was interested in numbers and letters but now the lab test shows that he has HPHPA bacteria.
He has already started vancomycin protocol as Dr Bill Shaw explained. Hopefully, his symptoms will decrease and why not reverse? Hope so

How did the vancomycin work out?

@@dm-eo7uw he started vancomycin on April 27 and finished on May 24( 10 days. One day on and 2 days off).
On My 10 he started saying real words randomly and he can wave and say good bye and some of his behaviors have reduced 80% and he is back at being interested in learning again. He can sit for hours.
I will redo OAT test with Great Plains Lab again to see if the bacteria has been eliminated and if not I will see what the lab will suggest.
He is lively now and I am happy with his progress. I give him probiotic too ( the one dr William talked about).
He is also on anti fungal med now, he will finish next week and I will send his urine sample the beginning of July.
I am making him repeat alphabet and some flashcards and will start speech therapy tomorrow
      Thank you for asking
