The year was 1987 and a friend of a friend (both musicians) knew Ed Mann who was FZ's percussionist at the time. FZ was preparing for a European tour and has practicing with his full band for the tour. It was at a sound stage on some movie studio's lot. We were fortunate enough to gain access to rehearsal and let me say it is to this day the single greatest musical experience I've ever had!! When we first arrived the band was clowning around and actually had not played a single song. About an hour passed and in walks FZ with thermos of coffee. He pours himself a cup and lights up a smoke, then looks at his sheet music and tells the band to begin on the fourth verse of Black Lagoon, a one, two three and the band comes in perfectly like they'd been at it all day long!! FZ stopped the band several times to tell a certain member who was not playing it like he wanted, how to do it right. He even went and sat on Chad's drum stool and played a beat the way he wanted it played!! He did not play his guitar the entire rehearsal except when the band broke for lunch. We were outside hanging with Ike Willis when I heard a guitar from inside. I slipped back into the studio and there was FZ wailing away. So I quietly grabbed a chair and sat down right in front of him and watched him play for 30 minutes, nodding my head and smiling at him and enjoying a true master of his craft just sitting around entertaining himself. Oh what a night!!
I saw Frank Zappa in New York City Beacon Theater one of his last shows . Didn't have a backstage pass but try to get back. Mind you I was at that concert alone no friends wise enough to travel from Long Island. That was Dweezil . He and moon okayed a total stranger with a big smile on his face through security to spend the next hour sitting in a room drinking heineken's with Frank family and band . I really don't think Frank has ever been underrated...underappreciated, yes, most definitely. Other guitarists and other musicians are very hip to Frank. He was never one to be pompous about what he played..." Here it is, you like it or you don't I don't give a shit!"...that was Frank.
Most people always wanted to hear the old songs - it must be frustrating for a musical genius like FZ if his fans never love the new art as they loved the old things. I remember the time in the 80s, when i went to the record store to hear the newest FZ record just after his release. And always i thought first - oh, this is not so good than the old ones - but i bought it anyway, went home and heared it loud on my stereo. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 times - and always it became better. And a few days later i felt confident - THIS is the best record he has ever made! So now - in my old days - i hear music with more respect for the artist. Good music is never bad - maybe i don't understand it immediately - but always i have respect to the artists work. The job of an artist is not to appeal the audience - his job is it to do what only an artist can do.
There are good current musicians but one of the reasons I like older music is because you can hear the artists experimented a lot. Genres like jazz and rock were new so they had to figure out what worked and what didn’t. Most mainstream music today is very similar and I think artists generally use the same techniques.
I'm not a huge fan of the Jazz from hell era stuff. I dunno, its a bit too clinical for my ear. But right at the end when he was doing his classical, he was striking tones I aint *ever* heard before. But it was the writings of a man who knew he was doomed. A lot of people find Yellow shark and Civ phase 3 stuff from his collaborations with Ensemble Modern mystifying work, but I think its utterly haunting.

In 1973, "Overnight Sensation" came out. Some critics were scathing in their reviews, referring to FZ as a joke who's on stage antics were to make up for the fact that he had no guitar skills. During a local radio interview, FZ said he was pissed about the negative reviews and comment about his lack of ability. He said the fans going to the London(Ontario Canada) concert were in for a treat as he was going to give a demonstration of his "lack of ability". Me and some friends went to see the concert and I was blown away by his unbelievable talent. I don't care what anybody says, Frank Zappa was one of the greatest guitarists ever. He was the KIng and Master of improvisational guitar.
QUESTO CAPOLAVORO DEL ROCK è L' APOTEOSI DEL più GRANDE GENIO DELLA MUSICA CONTEMPORANEA CHE NEL CORSO DELLA SUA VITA ARTISTICA HA CERCATO DI ABBRACCIARE TUTTI GENERI MUSICALI CONOSCIUTI SIGNORI E SIGNORI "FRANK ZAPPA".
I grew up down the street from Terry Bozzio. His son was one of my little brother's best friends. He would always let myself, my dad and brothers over to play with him because they were all percussionists, except for me. But it was still really cool to just sit and watch him especially tune in go crazy on the drums. Of course this was many years after this song was made but still it was most definitely a pleasure to meet him.
If Zappa had a "hit" it would be "The Muffin Man." A beautiful combination of heavy rock guitar led melody, and purposely absurd lyrics that could mean almost anything (see that yellow snow). Thanks for the upload.
He made those lyrics because back when he recorded with big companies they wanted the standard isssue "lullaby" BS. FFS they even censored the name of his band.
***** True. By the record company that released it as a single and the listeners who heard it on the radio back in the day? And maybe even by the artist who played it for his fans live? But that hummable melody. Catchy indeed.
Frank died on my birthday in 1993, from a curable disease, of which I am a survivor. I never got to see him, Live, but Dweezil's band, Zappa Plays Zappa, does a really good performance of his work.

Didn't expect this to be so METAL
Didn't expect metal to sound so Zappa
How does this sound metal? It sounds like pure rock.
@@bandname The main riff is so heavy, not to mention the drums.
@@ilikevideos4868 I would say hard rock, though there's so many sub genres so who's to say.
@@bandname Yeah, good music is good no matter the genre
A fabulous guitarist👍we would like this to never stop!
Undoubtedly the best guitarist to grace our lifetime
Frank Zappa and his songs are the only classics rock who survived from Jojo's fans.

Is that an jojo reference ?

@FedePoyo I never do things like that, i just read the stupid memes Of the comment section
i gotta see Zappa in Austin, Tx, 1975.. awesome.
😍
I was watching muffin man songs and came to this and it’s awesome!
because of his obscurity, i feel he was underrated as a guitarist.
Maestro Frank. What a guitarsound he created.
😍
thank you, love the pictures, frank is missed
Love this man 💗

QUESTO CAPOLAVORO DEL ROCK è L' APOTEOSI DEL più GRANDE GENIO DELLA MUSICA CONTEMPORANEA CHE NEL CORSO DELLA SUA VITA ARTISTICA HA CERCATO DI ABBRACCIARE TUTTI GENERI MUSICALI CONOSCIUTI SIGNORI E SIGNORI "FRANK ZAPPA".
👏👏👏🙌🤟🎸🔥💣💥
It's like every genre of music ever plowed into one song! Such intricacy yet so easy to listen too!
The one and only greatest of all time! Thank you Frank,... You'll live for ever!!
Briliant, He made a world better place..for some of us
Maybe a world …but not this world
Omg! I would say you have no idea how good this sounds right now, but that would be a lie. You all knew how to enjoy this fully before I knew nothin.

Even today, Zappa is the only musician who can be so silly, then heavy and harder than anybody!
Uhhh Ween?

“So many books, so little time.”
― Frank Zappa
"if you wanna get laid, go to college...if you want an education, go to a library"
***** Really? Just known by who?
+Everyone You Love Both great songs.
Nice version of this song. Thank you !!
ONE A MOST GREAT SOLO OF GUITAR IN THE ROCK MUSIC....ZAPPA WAS A GENIUS
GENIUS!!!
So good in every level! What the world needs now is a few more Franks.
There will never be another Frank. But there is Dweezil and he is trying to carry on the tradition!
The first album my older brother gave me was Zappa. :} Thanks Dan, This guy is fantastic!
A true American Composer.
This was my favourite song when I was 7 I'm 15 now and I still love it😂❤
There are only 2 ways to live life, with or without Zappa
Miss you Frank
Thank you, mother and father for introducing me to Zappa's music. Some of the best music I've ever heard.
The guitar and then the drums at the start is so sick!
FZ's music It doesn't come from our planet, so most people probably don't understand it. I love FZ MUSIC !!!
Thank You ! R.I.P: FRANK !
Frank died on my birthday in 1993, from a curable disease, of which I am a survivor. I never got to see him, Live, but Dweezil's band, Zappa Plays Zappa, does a really good performance of his work.
Awesome guitar and drum work.. glad that my friend recommend this to me 😁
Excellent excellent guitar player 👍
The way he talks to the crowd at the end. Like they're guests in his house.
This song projects me into another dimension! Eternal glory to the greatest musical genius of the last century. ❤
Tanta cultura este Mestre tem, desde fazer e poder fazer quanto a fabricar sons que nos levam a lugares que nunca algum dia poderia-monos pensar em ir, magnífico Frank Z
Thank you for existing Frank Zappa
