Even though 98% of the time I don't need it I LOVE that your tutorials are so detailed. Down to "This piece is red, yellow, and green." Compared to the usual "put that piece there, then this piece here." It makes it easy to follow for everyone. Beginners included. Although I can solve this puzzle on my own I wanted to refine my solution and I didn't have to think twice about where to go. Your tutorials are notoriously easy to follow and that's what makes them the best.
I was messing with it and other than the red half of the color spectrum having 2 pieceymis matched. I did it on accident. I don’t want to touch it now😂
I picked up a gear ball, went on UA-cam, and found this. 10 minutes later, I'm 100% confident that I can solve a gear ball by myself! Thank you so much!
TheCoolGamer sorry, I meant that she messed it up a bunch (not scrambled, a bunch of piece popping). I was still a bit of a noob when it came to cubing.
It is very close. On the original Gear Cube you could skip the Gear Ball's Step 3. However if you get a Gear Cube that does have the stickers on the outer parts of the edges then they would solve the exact same.
That was an amazing tutorial. Thank you. My method of solving the gear ball was very inefficient, but your method has allowed me to get solves under a minute.
Thank you for your time, it has help me to solve so quickly. You explain all the steps so clearly. I don't leave comments to often. I think your time is worth it (Thank you)
it's the same way of solving the gear cube however step 3 is special here as the parts around to the centers are not available in the gear cube. love your way of explaining things.
Just bought it. Sometimes I'd solve it without knowing it, and other times I try these algs. so hard, but they just don't work. I even slowed the video down to see what to do, but can't get it.
thank you so mutch, it seems so difficult without any tutorial, and this one is super nicely layed out, the hardest part is seeing the difference between red and pinkish color, as those are nearly the same in a bit of an darker space, but the tutorial itself is very nice.
This was very well explained but by the first time I knew how to solve the gear ball I forgot so I'm here to learn again and this won't be hard because his explanation was very good. :D
Thanks so much for posting! My 11 year old son got this for his birthday and a kid at school randomized it before he got a chance to enjoy it. I was able to solve it thanks to your video and now he can mess it up himself! :)
Followed your path. I managed to get two opposite sides correct, but the other four have their corner colors switched. My red and purple sides are opposite, so my red corners are on the purple side, and vice versa. Any idea how this might have happened?
Henry DeVasher For the third step, hold the left/right face and turn the oposite face once. Make sure the center is the opposite color of the corners. Ex. (Green Center/Green Corners)Turn(Blue Center/Green Corners)
I got my gear ball yesterday and I mixed it up on accident. I didn't understand it at first, but somehow, I got my ball with two solid opposite sides with the 4 running down the middle. I just did an r2 and i was done
I was at step 2 for the first time and got stuck. Then I scrambled it and started over and got it. This video was very detailed and slowed down. Thanks!
Thanks a lot! Took me 2 weeks to solve the ghost cube last night finally and then I moved on to the gear ball and couldn't figure out the how to finish it off until I saw this video today. Cheers!
reshuffle and try again. if you still can't then try again in a few years. sometimes young brains are too small to understand stuff like this. like i used to be unable to understand stuff like this. another tip is to get good at geometry.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. It was very helpful and helped me solve the gear ball. Whenever I used to try to solve it I would always mess up and then quit but your video helped me a lot. Thank you.
I followed these steps, and now I'm left with 2 completed sides (yellow and orange), and 4 almost-completed sides. Only the corners on the red and purple sides are swapped, and so are the corners on the blue and green side. The first time I solved the cube I had the same state, and with a few turns I could solve it, but I don't remember what I did and ever time afterwards it only messed up the ball. Does anyone have an algorithm I can use?
Thanks for the help. I solved my gear ball several times with this method. For the viewers, pay very close attention to the fingers that hold the gear ball steady while he is rotating the ball with the other hand.
You switch two which will match the hold that middle bit in the s layer then find another two that you need. To switch if you can't find any that need to switch just switch any two in the front or back layer and switch them then hold that on the s layer and then find two that need to switch ten that will position the edges
This video is great, as usual Kenneth, but please don't feel pressured to do more than 2 a month. I enjoy your back catalog of videos, there's no need to push more content, quality is most important.
I love how u explain how to solve and I watched this video before I have one but I think I'm getting one for Christmas so when my dad mixes it up I can solve one and I love your videos
When you turn the top you have to turn it all the way around, not just once. You should see the same colors on the corners. I found this out that he wasn't turning the top once, but twice with one turn.
not my case :( it's intimidating at first glance. I've worked my 3x3 time down to 3 min~ and this thing consumes my nightmares. Though I'm sure I'll get it pretty soon
well technically the gear ball is a little harder then the stock gearcube because it has colors on the static rack part of the edge pieces. The gear cube is just black on those parts so you don't have to orient the edge pieces truely, just the gears.
I have a problem where edges need to be swapped with opposite edges... like they need to be moved around the puzzle 180º. I can't seem to figure out why this is happening nor do any of these algorithms work for this issue. Is this like a Gear Ball parity?
Thanks for your video. I am not a fan of Magic cube. however, purchasing this one for fun. I followed all of your steps, pause, and observe very carefully. I get the trick! Thank you so much!
ThePeopleGuyMan Wow. Way to be nice. But anyways, it's because of some parity crap that I sometimes get, also. I just mess it back up and then re-solve it.
This was really usefull to me, sometimes i do it without algorithms, but i just now could solve it my traditional way, and this really helped. Thank you
hi, i don't know if you actually read you're comments, but I have a problem with you're method of solving the gear ball. The problem is when one of two edge pices needs to be flipped. using the algorithm that you give (R2 U R2 U) flipps not only the top and bottom edge pices, but also the left and right gears. in this case, when you do the algorithm, it flipps the four edge pices you want to be flipped, (the ones on the top and bottom) but it also flips the already solved edge pices (the left and right ones). If you know how to fix this, other than just going on two a different edge pice, please tell me!
I'm confused on which two pieces you're referring to in step two. Is it the 2 above and below the square, or the two occupying the frames above and below the one I'm looking at?
I was wondering: comparing this to a normal rubik's cube, when you are in step 3 and do R U R U R U on the ball, is that like doing Rw Uw Rw Uw Rw Uw on the normal cube? Or on the ball R rotation is like (R2 M') on the cube and the U rotation is like (U2 E')?
Thanks Kenneth! I can now get a time under a minute with this cube. For your next Q&A video can you answer my question: How do I become a successful UA-camer and what are some things i should do, and should not do. Thanks.

Nick Roethel I use my own method to solve it and now I'm stuck with 4 faces that have a z-shape of the opposite color

Nobody ever will read this but this was my first ever solve on any type of runic cube thank you so much for the solve
Rob Dog hey I read your comment 😀👍
It’s Rubik’s
My first was a 3x3.... duh
Rob Dog it's a rubiks cube
Rob Dog it’s not a cube
I had this sitting unsolved on my shelf for years, thought it was too difficult. Can't believe how simple it actually is!
Same here!
facts
I call it the self-solving puzzle. If you get half, the other half solves itself.

This is amazing, how complicated this puzzle looks when scrambled and how easy it actually is to solve!
RIP my sister decided to grab my gear ball and ended up breaking it *within hours of me getting it*
TheCoolGamer update: after a lot of messing with it, it is fixed, and I don't like her touching them now.
TheCoolGamer sorry, I meant that she messed it up a bunch (not scrambled, a bunch of piece popping). I was still a bit of a noob when it came to cubing.
The same but my mom
Broke it
Alexa play despacito 2
I solved it 5 times from just messing around with it and now I see why
Allison Herrera because every layer is connected by the gears and is constantly locked in no matter how u move the layers
I solved it 2 times by messing around I also see why

Step1: 0:38-2:40(solve corners)
Step2: 2:42-4:27(position edges)
Step3: 4:29-5:52(orient edges)
Stel4: 5:54-7:06(rotate gears)
it's the same way of solving the gear cube however step 3 is special here as the parts around to the centers are not available in the gear cube.
love your way of explaining things.
when I so step 4 the one I focus on becomes right but the rest dont line up. sometime it just doesn't works. HELP!
Probably a twisted piece. This puzzle is easy to accidentally twist.
It doesn't always work. What are some other things we can do to solve it
Just got my Gear Ball after seeing your positive reviews. Thanks for the solution!!
Just bought it. Sometimes I'd solve it without knowing it, and other times I try these algs. so hard, but they just don't work. I even slowed the video down to see what to do, but can't get it.
Okay nevermind. Also on step 3, the way you hold it does matter.
How do you hold it coz it's step 3 which ruins it for me
same the algs dont work
When I got mine it took me a hour to solve for first solve now it takes me about 5 min
:l
cant believe that content from 10 years ago still looks as it was made today! great video and first time i tried i solved it!
On step 2 when I do a switch it messes it up somewhere else and continues doing that forever so I'm confused.
Same 😭
thank you so mutch, it seems so difficult without any tutorial, and this one is super nicely layed out, the hardest part is seeing the difference between red and pinkish color, as those are nearly the same in a bit of an darker space, but the tutorial itself is very nice.

@Robert Baker THANK YOU
This was very well explained but by the first time I knew how to solve the gear ball I forgot so I'm here to learn again and this won't be hard because his explanation was very good. :D
on step 2, none of my edges are solved or across from each other. i keep doing the algorithm but its not working.
matt klinger same
it was the same for me. just keep trying the algorithm in different ways and different sides, it’ll eventually work.
Probably the best tutorial on UA-cam. I hunted for hours to get a decent tutorial and most of them were super naff
I have a gear ball and I absolutely hate it it jams every time I try to turn it Please someone help
Me too!
Just turn it the poisoned way and then move it fast to the way u wana turn it

Czerno Alpha Just match up the corners with the centers by turning them, but I think I might be misinterperting the problem. Tell me if it doesnt work
I managed to solve correctly after a few iterations. Still don't know what I did wrong that first time, but it's all together now.
Czerno Alpha that happened to me once, but I fixed it
How do you solve this problem, my sides are switched too but each time I do the algorithom for the third step, it messes up my ball!
Henry DeVasher For the third step, hold the left/right face and turn the oposite face once. Make sure the center is the opposite color of the corners. Ex. (Green Center/Green Corners)Turn(Blue Center/Green Corners)

Jackeline Flores it's possible for it to fall out of alignment. you can work it around mechanically

Jackeline Flores what u need to do is pull the edges apart and with ur free finger spin the gear until it straightens out

Is there a big difference between the gear ball and the gear cube?
they are exactly the same.
there are little corners that need to be solve
well technically the gear ball is a little harder then the stock gearcube because it has colors on the static rack part of the edge pieces. The gear cube is just black on those parts so you don't have to orient the edge pieces truely, just the gears.

I am ll years old and I have about 25 cubes and this video was very helpful thanks you so much
AWESOME!! Honestly I got a gear ball because I saw it on your channel! This helped so much, you rock!!
I really apreciate this videos Ken, saludos de México.
This was a lot of help! I would've figured that with all the gears, this would be harder than the Cube, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Excellent video as usual, Kenneth.
I got one a few weeks ago. it's really fun to play. and this video is what told me how to solve it . thank you.
Great video as always, redKB! Keep up the good work!
When I’m turning the gears, I keep flipping them instead of orienteering them correctly?
Thanks for your video. I am not a fan of Magic cube. however, purchasing this one for fun. I followed all of your steps, pause, and observe very carefully. I get the trick! Thank you so much!
Why are all of my orange edges by the yellow center and vice versa?
same i dont know why it does this but i need help
I actually solved mine, it just took me longer to put the edges in the right place.
yes same here
Because your dumb
ThePeopleGuyMan Wow. Way to be nice.
But anyways, it's because of some parity crap that I sometimes get, also.
I just mess it back up and then re-solve it.
Thx for the awesome tutorial, I was very overwhelmed by solving the gear ball. With this tutorial it was really easy.
Thank you so much this was the only tutorial I could actually follow properly.
Cool tutorial. For some reason I got stuck on the last step. The gears were not going In the right spot. Any idea how to help with this?
Note: *DO NOT HOLD CENTERS, WHEN PERFORMING ALGORITHMS, EACH TWIST IS A 180 DEGREE TWIST.*
Thanks!
that makes a LOT more sense
This was awesome!. Not sure I "know how to solve it" but following these steps, it's all back together. :) Thanks
Are gear cube and gear ball cube different in algorithms and its mechanism
Is this the same way as you would solve a normal gear cube?
Thanks so much for this! Took me an hour, now I can do it too from every combination! Keep up the awesome work man!
problem with step 5: my gear ball only has 2 edges twisted, and they're on different slices. what do i do?
+Luke Chase He explains in the video that you need to orient the correct edges into ring so that 4 wrong edges are facing you.
Is the gear ball the same as the gear cube?
Thank you so much because you just taught me how to solve a gear cube that I got for a Xmas present
I'm confused on which two pieces you're referring to in step two. Is it the 2 above and below the square, or the two occupying the frames above and below the one I'm looking at?

yaaay!
you made that complicated looking object look like the easiest puzzle in the world! How did you do that you magician?
Very helpful… I kept trying to solve it by myself and I would get everything except one gear would be disoriented. Any advice?
I was wondering: comparing this to a normal rubik's cube, when you are in step 3 and do R U R U R U on the ball, is that like doing Rw Uw Rw Uw Rw Uw on the normal cube? Or on the ball R rotation is like (R2 M') on the cube and the U rotation is like (U2 E')?
