"up" is used as a directional preposition that gives additional context to the location "Hudson". In many English-speaking regions, especially in the United States, it's common to use "up" when referring to a location that is northward or at a higher altitude relative to the speaker's current location. Conversely, "down" is often used to indicate a location that is southward or at a lower altitude. In your sentence, "dropping Jenny off up in Hudson", the speaker is probably located south of Hudson or at a lower altitude, so they use "up" to convey the direction in which they'll be traveling. Of course, this can be a bit idiosyncratic and doesn't always strictly follow geographic north/south or altitude differences. Sometimes "up" or "down" might be used just based on local habits or traditions. In other words, "up" in this context doesn't change the fundamental meaning of the sentence (which is that someone is going to drop Jenny off in Hudson) but it provides a little extra detail about the speaker's perception of where Hudson is relative to their current location.
more examples: 1. I'm going up to Boston this weekend for a conference. 2. She lives up in the mountains. 3. He's traveling up to New York next week for a meeting. 4. They're moving up to Canada next month. 5. I'm going down to Miami for the winter. 6.We're heading down to our beach house in New Jersey. 7.She lives down in the valley. Just like with "up," the use of "down" in these sentences can suggest a direction on a map (usually south), a lower altitude, or a cultural or personal perception about the location. Again, it's more about the speaker's perception of the location rather than an exact geographical or altitudinal direction.
wonderful lessons! 请问‘This is what I love about this city’ 是不是也可以说 ‘This is why I love about this city.’? 另外, what I love, 这个 ‘t’也是位于两个元音之间,为什么不是‘flap t’?
In the sentence "dropping Jenny off up in Hudson," the word "up" is used as a directional modifier to indicate that Hudson is located to the north of the speaker's current location. "Up" is often used in this way to indicate a location that is further north or uphill from the speaker's current position. It is commonly used in informal speech and is often interchangeable with the word "north" in this context. by chatGPT🤓

drop off後面的up in Hudson是一起存在的還是說up是單獨存在的呢?
up是对动作drop sb off的一个补充,在"上面的“hudson;比如说come up here, up就是对come的补充,到上面这儿来

你好,如果是why就说this is why I love this city ;此处没有flap T, 我觉得是想她强调这几个词,所以没有快速地连在一起.

Gossip Girl

Serena
