Im not seeing any musicians commenting here and it should be pointed out this performance,and song,is a lesson in restraint on the part of these wizards on guitar. They could wank all over this shit but they play to the melody and the beat and let the vocal shine while accentuating perfectly. Speaking of perfect...this is one of the best rock vocals of all time. Yes,its a bit of a cheesey song but who gives a shit. YOU try and hit these notes on par with operatic phrasing and technique. Ya...its just rock but this is a master class on feel and delivery.
Agree with you 100%. Reminds me of Journey when Steve Perry wrote songs like "Open Arms" and "Faithfully". Neal Schon wanted to CRANK the shit out of the guitar but knew restraint would make the songs unforgettable. Klaus gives one of the best live vocal performances I've ever heard. Almost as good as Steve Perry and Robin Zander from Cheap Trick. Being a singer I loved / hated this song cause I loved it but I couldn't sing it. Priceless and amazing and haunting all at the same time.
