    Everyone shows that same screen diagram. It is only a suggestion. You could make your image taller than 192 lines if you wanted, but it would leave less time for game logic. You could also do color borders on the top or bottom. As long as you have 3 sync lines and 3 black lines on each side of the sync, and around 262 lines total give or take a couple lines, it will work. You could even make one long indefinitely long frame. That is what Maze Craze did between screens so it could focus on computing the maze.

    Atari used PDP-11's running RT-11, attached to ADM-3A terminals. The ADM-3A terminal also had a printer port, which was used to send binaries to the adjacent development system, where some stations had an HP 1611A logic analyzer for debugging those "really hard" problems.

    Parker Brothers "Empire Strikes Back" is, in my opinion, one of the best games ever made for the 2600. It's fast-paced, fun and actually does a very good job of approximating the AT-AT's walking cycle. I was very impressed with it at the time of its release and still today.

    The Atari 2600 Video Computer System was my first home video game console and I loved playing it for many years since I bought mine in 1981.

    Took a nap just after this video and had nice Atari dream - have these from time to time ever since childhood. In this one I opened the console - not to repair it but see what is inside and it had lots and lots of chips - definitely inspired more by famiclones than atari and it was supposed to be atari clone and not nes. What was most strange about this dream was cartridge port which was made from only PCB's and I was wondering how they indented this to work after user plugged in and removed multiple carts... but then I wondered how it worked at all.. but it did... indeed strange - wonder if such design could possibly work - port made from PCB with tinned pads where you plugged cart and connection was made from springiness of PCB alone. Then I woke up and I am pondering: "if that was doable wouldn't we see chinese to already make famiclones like that instead of putting expensive cartringe ports?" I wonder if they tried and made it work but it didn't work for too long or wasn't very stable.
    Anyways, imho this console should be called Atari 128 as the most accurate name. Funnily enough my first Atari was a clone system and it was called something like Atari 128 in 1.
    These times I managed to get my hand of Atari 2600 Jr. -alike clone with exact games as that original "RAMBO" system and even the same graphical glitches in one game - river raid-clone with "BERMUDA" game. Brother got fat Atari which looks identical to our first Rambo but with correct rendition of that one game Both support Atari 2600 carts.

    14:22 - best games - replace Pitfall with Pitfall II. Introduced the first true platformer before Super Mario Bros., and included a massive ram boost (12k) and a custom audio chip for additional voices for music.

    • @Lofote
      @Lofote 5 років тому +4

      but without any hardware cheats, Pitfall is probably one of the best :)

      Donkey Kong is undoubtedly the first though.
      Pitfall II is the most fun.

    The first ever easter-egg wasn't in Adventure. The programmer of Video Wizball did it 2 years prior on the Fairchild Channel F: ua-cam.com/video/kFZ4R9VjBkA/v-deo.html

    Enjoying this very much so far 30 minutes in... the only thing I don't like is the laughter of the crowd at the simplicity of the games and graphics. It just feels snobbish. I get it, they obviously did not grow up in this time period. If they had, they'd express much more respect. The designers and programmers of the Atari were true pioneers. EVERYTHING that came after was due to these folks who blazed thr trail for them.
    Yeah maybe I'm over reacting a bit, sorry not sorry.

      ikr it sounds so wrong and this is the first time i've heard anyone pronouce it like that
      it's like saying Intel 8080 as "eight zero eight zero"
      you should sound like an idiot

    • @Lofote
      @Lofote 5 років тому +1

      Sorry, but who the f*** cares? Everyone can say it like they want, nobody should make others use YOUR specific version, even if it is the official one. Just because you think something sounds idiotic, it doesn't have to for anybody else.
      It's only important, that people know what they are talking about.

    • @mumblic
      @mumblic 5 років тому +8

      In German, Dutch and many other language the expression '26 hundred" is not or seldom used . That 's why many (non US/UK) called it Atari "two thousand six hundred"
      World wide "Twenty-Six-HUNDRED" is probably used less often then you think!
      Damn! The world seems to be bigger then you thought !

    Why do the swedes or whatever these guys are call it the Too Tousand unt Six Hundred. Its Atari Twenty Six Hundred. Did they even own one? I hate people who give big lengthy speeches about something they clearly do not truly understand. Little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

    • @karl-heinznapp2874
      @karl-heinznapp2874 Рік тому +2

      Well, in Germany it was (AFAIK even officially) called the Two Thousand Six Hundred, whereas in the USA and other English spoken areas it was the Twenty-Six Hundred I guess...

    awful speaker. Maybe he knows much about atari, but he has not the ability to speak and transfer his knowledge. Also he looks like he try to find what to say at the time of presentation, giving the impression that he has not made any preparation before he starts.
