It is commonly believed that Christopher Columbus named the island in honour of Saint Martin of Tours when he encountered it on his second voyage of discovery. However, he actually applied the name to the island now called Nevis when he anchored offshore on November 11, 1493, the feast day of Saint Martin. The confusion of numerous poorly charted small islands in the Leeward Islands meant that this name was accidentally transferred to the island now known as Saint-Martin/Sint Maarten

it's really a great place, on Tuesday evening on the street it is filled with stalls, people playing music, dancers with Caribbean costumes, it is really beautiful !!!

When I return I am strongly considering renting a car. The taxi prices on a one way ride to the French side Marigot or Grand Case was $35 USD😮 August 2022. Rentals are more economical if you plan to travel to both sides for a week.

Hi Edwanda,if I'm not mistaken "divi little resort" is on the Dutch side while "grand casa" is on the French side, but luckily the island is small and you can reach it with a car in 20 minutes. The area is called "gran casa beach" and is next to the small gran casa airport
