Next time do 99 cent store against Erewhon!
Amazing idea!
I love my 99 cent store, but you aren't getting a fifth of what an upscale grocery store like Erewon is going to have. Walmart makes sense because it does have a full grocery store.
So wanna see that battle! You know the 99 cent store going to win it too lol
@FireSpark81 my 99 cent store doesn't even have bargin brand pasta and unfrozen meat, nevermind the lack of a fresh produce selection.
@@BubbyBoy They’ve already done 99 Cent Store vs Whole Foods, and 99 Cent Store can hold its own!
Love how Josh had a casual internal crisis about the concept of happiness mid-episode and it all culminated with "I like being on boats".
I also like being on boats; see where he's coming from.
@@sliceofsparta8985 😊 8:08 😅
@@sliceofsparta8985 😅😅
Because of the implications
I feel conflicted because everyone always jokes that nobody cares about Josh's history lessons on food all the time... but it's literally my favorite part. I think it's insanely cool and I feel like a nerd for it
no i really like them as well. i started watching these videos cause i was never taught necessary information about budgeting and food(or anything really)but ended up staying cause of Josh lol. He's a fun guy and i like learning. He makes it easier cause at least im not zoning out cause of boredom.
I’m glad to hear about the weird textured chicken breasts. My fiancé doesn’t believe me that the texture is different!
Something else that is different, I'm 67 years old and when I was a kid/ preteen the chicken dark meat was a lot darker in color and juicier. It had way more flavor than the drumsticks and thighs are today in most grocery store chicken.
@@Cattrix999 chickens have been bred and have evolved to be fatter and have much shorter life spans than chickens even 30 years ago. I’m sure due to that and other factors it’s definitely changed
I about died laughing when Josh started scraping the seeds of the red bell pepper into the wrong bowl. The chaos of this episode was fantastic
I wish y’all would have talked more about the spices, and whether or not the difference was worth the increased price at Whole Foods
I'm not going to lie, the spices at most grocery stores whether they're walmart or whole foods are really poor quality. I've personally found that the best spices tend to be found at ethnic grocery stores like local Indian, Middle Eastern, or Chinese grocery stores. You get fresher spices at better price points than nearly every major chain grocery store
i massively refer to buy spices at specific spice stores by weight, theyre much fresher than any preackaged one, discount or big brand
As said above, the best spices come from the local ethnic places, every best version of ethnic ingredients comes from a local joint.
@@PrinceKaladin this or any spices that are whole and you grind yourself, also organic spices are such a scam because there’s no difference when you’re eating. I buy sams club spices 😂
its not worth buying anything at whole foods. especially the spices.
It's funny how many times Josh has educated us on the fajita/skirt steak connection. We know. But it's cute that he's so passionate about it.
Every video is someone's first, better to repeat information than leave newcomers in the dark.
This was my first.
@@hurhurhur123 How you finding it?
@@hurhurhur123 This wasn't my first Mythical Kitchen video, but it's the first time I've heard about the fajita thing
The way he screamed at "65" and then immediately covered his mouth was absolute gold
"Did you just shush me when I wasn't starting to talk?" is such an amazing line.
I love you taking the time to talk about jarlic. Like, if I’m making a particularly nice dinner for an event, or otherwise making a dish I know garlic is a main focus, then I’ll definitely take the time and dice fresh garlic cloves. When I’m just cooking for myself, though, I barely have the energy to even cook the food itself, let alone to contend with garlic as a part of the food prep, so I’ll throw in some jarred garlic to taste and roll with it.
Maybe it's just the brand I bought but the jarlic I've experienced is almost...sweet? Like not GARLIC-y at all, like someone squeezed a couple drops of garlic juice into a jar of unsweetened apple sauce (exaggeration but not inaccurate). My go to is garlic powder or fresh.
Fresh garlic is better, but man I love some good jarlic. Find a brand you like and it’s perfect
Totally feel this - I would recommend trying frozen crushed garlic if you haven't already! Its just as easy as jarlic but I find it maintains its flavor a bit better as I'm assuming its frozen from fresh as opposed to heat treated.
@Madi Green thanks for the suggestion! I don’t have much freezer space in my current apartment, but when I move to the next one I’ll definitely see if I can find some to keep on hand :)
I used jarlic too but then found my store sells bags of peeled garlic cloves , giant bags too so i just keep that in the fridge and use those now. I guess for me the peeling was like 90 percent of why i used jarlic.
I'm actually surprised at how fresh the veggies from walmart look. I'd love to see a walmart / Target comparison
bro forgot to log out
But then Josh can not make his joke whole paycheck about Whole Foods. I think that is going to be the theme whole paycheck vs a more budget friendly grocery store. I am sure Target, Aldi, Lydl, Asian market and farmers market ECT will be next at some point, but who knows what order they'll do them in.
Or Walmart and Meijer.
@ Miss Dire Meijer stores are only in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois and Wisconsin. Not sure if there would be any savings if they had to ship to California compared to just going to a grocery store chain that is there area. Although it would be interesting to see which is cheaper Meijer vs Amazon.
@@cocoapuff_x lmao it is what it is
18:00 "Did you shush me when i wasn't starting to talk?" 🤣
Josh is still 🔥 by himself in the kitchen. I love seeing him with other people, but, he does great alone
Nicole laughing at you saying we think you don't make mistakes made me laugh extra hard 😂
With Josh giving all the love to Walmart, Kroger is quietly sobbing in the corner.
ngl as someone who grew up on kroger products, walmart would 100% beat kroger in a taste test
@@bruhkakke Kroger (well, technically another chain, but it's owned by Kroger, and all the "store brand" products are labeled Kroger) is the high end supermarket around here, a step below Trader Joe's / Whole Foods.
Organic is not equal to free range, it can be, but it's not always. Nor does cage free equal free range. Also, walmart has more than just Iodized tabe salt. I get kosher slat there all the time
I encountered one of the woody chicken breasts last week for the first time. I thought I was eating raw chicken and had to keep checking each piece to make sure I had cooked it properly. That texture is so weird.
I love the food comparisons, goofiness, philosophical & existential crisis in each episode on MK
You should bring back Food Fears with the Sporked team and all the new Mythical Crew
FOOD FEARS
I miss food fears sm
No, ugh...just my opinion but I really don't like watching people eat gross food
I love the dynamic between Josh and Jordan. They should have a sitcom together. Id totally watch it. And Emily could be their neighbor who has indoor chickens.
I say a Threes Company reboot.
"I ate ______, I got the burps." "I drank ________, I got the burps". I just think Josh is a volcano about to erupt at any moment.
That crab monster flashback of happy family, the natural cuts of josh, this is the best solo run in a long time. Loved it. 4 out of 5 stars man!
Thank you for telling me about the woody chicken thing! I had that happen like a month ago and I thought I seriously screwed up cooking it.
I love at how around 4:15 the editor instantly cuts Josh off at "Ashwaganda" lmao
The fact that Josh brought up frozen dog poop after todays GMM episode is *chefs kiss*
Josh was giving mental breakdown for this episode lmao
You ain’t losing a staring contest against this guy.
Ain't that the truth! 🤣🤣
get him to start talking, he blinks like crazy whenever he starts rambling
@@tosuto2906 🤣🤣🤣
Josh is another glorious book on the Aries Kitchen shelf. (Maybe not technically, BUT CLOSE ENOUGH)
The amount of money I’d give to see him & Julien cook together!
@@ShearGenius88 SAME. The chaos would be frickin amazing.
Man I would LOVE to see Julien in the Mythical Kitchen!
Josh's happiness diatribe was lovely
“Wake up in the morning and huff the jarlic” is now a permanent fixture of my daily vocabulary. 🎉❤
Jordan’s voice sounds like when people are interviewed but they don’t want their identity known so the interviewer uses a voice changer to hide their identity
JOSH. The WORST thing I have ever eaten was a McChicken I had a few years ago. I started eating it and the texture of the meat was completely off. I looked at it and it seemed fine so I kept eating. The entire thing felt like the texture of crunching through cartilage. I think you've solved what it was, I believe I ate a chicken infected with woody tissue syndrome. Thank you for solving that mystery!
Joshes 2nd take of adding lime zest in the sour cream killed me!!😂😂😂
The produce at Wal-Mart varies wildly from store to store. The Wal-Mart closest to me serves produce that will spoil the next day, especially potatoes and strawberries. I just get my groceries at Kroger.
Do something like this with Kroger vs Walmart. Kroger always prided themselves in how fresh their products are and they are both in roughly the same price point so it would be interesting to see the difference between the two
I learned that food prices in LA are sky high. $66 at Wholefoods and $39 at Walmart. I compared those prices with my local supermarket (not the cheapest) here in England, the total was £22 that is equivalent to $27. I'd be interested to know how prices compare in other places.
Groceries in Australia are expensive. This would cost $50 at a regular supermarket. A good bit more at a "gourmet" type store.
Covid was used as an excuse to jack the prices up and keep them up.
@@squarespectrum2271 same with Canada. Especially spices. Most containers the size that they bought are $6-9 each 😭
@@squarespectrum2271 That's shockingly high. Our prices have also gone up due to the inflation caused by profligate government spending during covid. Thanks for replying.
@@LucidDreamerVex Each of those spices in my local supermarket were $1.37 (US$) (that's £1.09 in British Pounds). I'm amazed that spices are so expensive in Canada - I cannot think of any reason for such a disparity! Thanks for replying.
@@stumccabe "Profligate government spending" the Tory government has been slashing public spending year after year after year. The spiralling inflation is a combination of supply chain disruptions and massive opportunism by corporate actors. Prices are up because there was the flimsiest excuse to raise them, and they're staying up because there's no political will to push back at corporate profiteering on human misery.
Josh I really appreciate your little tid bits and facts you throw in, keep it up big brain
"Check the Olympic medal count! That's how we win!" 🤣
"yup, those are limes" is probably my favorite opening ever
Who is going to tell Josh about the triple large size tortillas they sell at wal mart and Ralph's lol
Are the Tortillaland tortillas still a thing? I haven't really been eating tortillas lately but the Tortillaland tortillas sold uncooked in the refrigerated case used to be FAR superior than any other flour tortilla some anywhere else.
@@elangomattab I honestly have no idea but if you are interested you can look on Google and see if any place near you sells them🤗
@@elangomattab I looked it up just now out of curiosity because I never heard of the brand but they sell these tortillas at various locations at least here in Southern California and where you live I can't speak on so you are going to have to Google for the brand which various locations will pop up to tell you where you can find them at🤗
As a poor person who shops lots of store brands, ' the best for the price, Walmart s Great Value, & Best Choice are the best for your buck with most store brand items, & Walmarts produce.
LOVE this series! I shop at the local grocery outlet and the 99¢ store to cut cost all the time! Thanks for knowing your audience!
Paprika and smoked paprika have ENTIRELY different flavor profiles, Josh... 🤣 I haven't even watched more than a couple of minutes so far and already see a big problem there, lol. I'd never use smoked paprika in a fajita, either, personally...
I didn't expect to hear sims music while Jordan was trying out each of the fajitas but I'm here for it. 😂
17:18 MORE LIKE "WITHHOLD FOODS"! GOT 'EM!
Always love a new video from my spirit animal.
Do these more, I loved this video 👌
Bruh, I always wondered wtf was up with that when you got a chicken with that horrible texture. Calling it "woody" is actually a great way to describe it. Glad I now know that without knowledge I've eaten mutiple diseased chickens. Although I have seen Food Inc so I knew what I was getting myself into...
I usually thought I cooked it too long or something
Josh love Julia child laughs from you bud. So wholesome
Love the ICP reference with the magnet line.
Lmfao ok the fake “fa-jitas” teleprompter one got me 😂
This was quite entertaining
Im enjoying this series !
Whole Foods more like Foods Paycheck
Josh is pure chaos and I love it!
Mythical kitchen always comforts me 😅
I love being on boats, came so fast that I feel like Josh led her into that just so he could say that line.
3:18 But Josh, there's no lettuce in fajitas. Ya silly little goose.
I desperately need an uncut Mythical Kitchen episode. I don't care what episode but I NEED ONE.
10:18 The "No" heard around the world
The Walmart's in Northern California sell the same spices and tortillas you find at the Mexican markets. Jeez....they even have some killer hard to find hot sauces that blow away Cholula and Tapatio
This was actually really helpful
josh talking about the weird chicken thing reminded me when I worked at jack in the box one day i made some chicken strips to eat while i did some computer training stuff when i bit into one the feeling on my teeth was like biting into rubber.
Yay I love Jordan! This was hilarious
I need to see Josh and Julien Solomita meet.
"Every single day you drop a spoon and it falls to the ground, but what happens the day when it floats to the sky?" Why does this seem like a quote from a philosopher?
Leaving a comment because at 6:14 Josh talks about the condition that I’ve experienced!! I was eating a Popeyes hot chicken sandwich and it had the snap of a sausage every time I took a bite
Love these types of episodes. I been watching gmm and gmk for a long time and I have noticed on the food episodes most of the time the Walmart brand is always in the top ranks and whole foods is always on the loosing side.
It’s always wild knowing I’m one of the first few hundred cause these get uploaded right as I get home from work
I like the history behind it! I like that I can actually learn things while being entertained here 😅
I care about your facts Josh🤩
Used this recipe to cook for my friends and family and it was a hit! These were the easiest fajitas I have ever done!
Thanks Josh about the horror stories of the chickens 🤣
The sims music in the background when the tasting is going on is giving me life.
I always laugh when I hear your Whole Foods commercial/ad on AHIAS, after remember how often you roast them on the podcast, and MK episodes like this one.
FYI: Woody breast syndrome has been bred into nearly all commercial poultry. Because it is genetic, it can never be completely eliminated - only greatly reduced. This has nothing to do with being organic, all-natural, etc. As a side note, poultry is all-natural by law.
Salt and Avocado are a codependent relationship. Avocado is a super needy type. 😂
I love Jordans sweatshirt, but the octopus looks like it's trying to hypnotize someone lol
Soooo...because whoever you asked to pick up avocados being unable to pay attention enough to choose a ripe avocado from both stores was the main determining factor...got it. 😂🤔
Finally! I feel seen as someone who puts the food waste in the bowl with the prepped veg sooo often. It’s aight Josh, happens to the best of us 😌😌
Use a spoon to scrape out the pith of the bell pepper! Also works for chilies if you don't want to touch the hot seeds.
Melon baller works even better. The edge is slightly sharpened so it makes it easier. I don't think I've ever used it to ball melon so can I really call it a melon baller?
I enjoy you, Josh, a great deal and but also, I gave the vid a thumbs up bc I LOVE Jordan 🥰 🎉
Watching this poor man with extreme adhd try and multitask. The struggle is truly real.
This episode just confirmed for me that Josh is half-movie-drama-chef, half-Coca-Cola-polar-bear, and I don't know how to take that. (Also, yes, this is a super weird comparison.)
HAHAHA Whole pay check !!!! "slaps knee" ahhhhh ya got me 🤣🤣
Other people: rocking out to the dubstep
Me: rocking out to the Sims music in the background
The funniest parts of the episode are, Josh lizard tongue, Bezos mention, and royalty free dubstep.
Thanks for the center line in post
"Yeah...that makes me so sad, but it does taste good..."
Laughed way to hard, Magnets, how the F@%$# do they work?!
Haven't heard an ICP reference in a minute 🤣
13:56 thank you for that editors
The dubstep part cracked me up
I care about the chaotic food history commentary, Josh. I care.
Josh just spouted the same Hume idea about the spoon that my philosophy professor told us... man that brought back a flashback from college... haha
Nice ICP reference 🤣
I appreciate whoever is doing the captions. Idk if it is someone at gmm or what. But i appreciate it.
The sad truth is i live in texas and they dont got no nascar shirts in our walmarts.
Every bite of chicken at chilis has woody chicken syndrome 1000%
The one lesson learned...buy ripe avocados.
Jordan = On Her A Game!!! Love her! Do more myth munchers!!!!! Bring it!!
Just over here looking for a link to buy that octopus sweater... Seriously though, I want it!
