Fun fact Stephanie heard John rapping freestyle with a bunch of other superstars on a bus, she stopped him and asked him to make up a rap about a few random items which he nailed. She then asked him if he wanted to do that on tv and the Dr of Thuganomics was born and saved his career.
The only reason Cena reached the top was because after 2 years of getting the Ultimate Push, Lesnar left the company high and dry with nothing. The company was also moving in a more PG direction due to the Benoit incident. Cena fit the pg mold perfectly.
If cena was let go: No cm punk 2011 feud No aj styles 2016 feud No many randy orton fued No edge fued No amazing and countless make a wish donations No rock feud Etc. All of this would definitely impacted wwe differently in my opinion.
What's funny is i go back and watch the segments and it looked like John had better lines, but Rock controlled the atmosphere better. This is when John looked like a heel. So, the build to each line John said, it was piqued with 4th wall break.
Which is why had he turned heel in 2012 would’ve probably catapulted him into new heights cuz he was going to be the heel vs the biggest babyface in his hometown
17:25 that’s one of the reasons I’m a big fan of John . I grew up with the super Cena and as a kid loved him , so I always loved Cena as a wrestler . But dude is generally one of the best ppl in not only wrestling but even in like hollywood because of this . Like he has like 700 make a wishes . And Ik like going to one isn’t that easy mentally too , seeing all those kids like that is kinda hard I’m assuming and yet he still goes cause he knows it’ll make the kids with cancer day alot better with what they been through
The wrestling landscape would be worse without Cena. People don't want to admit it. They may cry blasphemony. But in their hearts, they know it's true.
I totally disagree about john getting cooked, just cause the crowd was favouring the rock doesn’t mean the rock was better, john was speaking facts and the rock was just calling him a fruity pebble and I’ll always go with the guy speaking facts over the guy just calling the other guy childish names, so i think john was cooking the rock
John was losing just because he was going against the rock but the in actually John was slow cooking the rock it’s just the fans didn’t really accept it until after the fact
Unpopular opinion but this is why I prefer CM Punk over Stone Cold as a trash talker. If I’m being completely honest, I don’t get what you guys see in the “what? what? what?” responses, just comes across like someone who doesn’t actually have a good rebuttal but you guys were eating it up. WWE is scripted and unless Dwayne can talk about John’s backstage antics (which he can’t) there’s not much to say about someone who thrived off being the family friendly good guy with a clean reputation. John is also a hypocrite because he went the same route Dwayne did. It’s hilarious that people got mad at him for upgrading and doing better for himself because the wrestling industry is a terrible environment. It’s like the Kobe/Lebron arguments. But I understand America can be patriotic and you guys respect people aligning themselves with something and sticking with it.
People say that it's weird how close a wrestler became to not being a huge name, possibly fired. But you gotta realize that happens ALL the time. There is a universe in which Owen Hart, John Morrison, Brian Pillman, Carlito, Gail Kim, Rick Rude are all HUGE stars. But not in ours, all because of bad luck, circumstances, motivation, or timing. In those universes, John Cena probably DID get fired. Maybe Stone Cold did as well....
The "10 wrestlers Vince McMahon initially hated" video by Adam Blampied shows us that Vince was hella lucky for having people like Jim Ross by his side. He thought HBK wasn't main-event worthy, he thought Undertaker was a failed basketball player that wouldn't amount to anything and thought Cena was a generic roided meathead
Think about the fact that Daniel Bryan and John Cena were in Velocity at the same time and Bryan ended up the one they cut. Yet in the end WWE got both in their primes anyway and they set record numbers in sales and profits during both of their peaks.
Man I can’t image in a world where is John cena was never the face of company had he gottan fried back 02 that rap gimmick really saved him I’ll respect him what he done in wwe despite the good the bad and the ugly
I think thx to john thats why Roman's Tribal Chief gimmick works so much bc before it wasn't genuine and now we see him able to do things his way and to have him surrounded by his family makes it all the more better. U can see Roman trying to make everyone better and we wanna actually see them show jey as Chief and Roman slowly is doing it
That’s crazy if Stephanie wasn’t on that tour bus and heard him battle rapping Rikishi and I forgot who else was in the back with John and Rikishi. Where the landscape of WWE would have gone from there
John easily won in their battle of promos. I disagree in saying he was getting cooked. The crowd was behind the rock because he’s the rock but John was easily had all the better promos. The rock had to stick to his regular shtick and calling him childish names. And there were lines he used that I didn’t even know about until later on. For Example calling out the rock on his breast surgery. And seeing that the rock needed his promo lines on his wrist already shows who the better one is. And I think WWE goes out of business if Cena doesn’t work out.
You n Cena are right abt the ticket sales, bc the first John Cena/The Rock Wrestlemania match in 2012 was the highest sales and ratings of any other wrestlemania at that time. It sold so much, it made the WWE a lot of money. Bc they wanted to see the Rock v Cena.🤷🏽♂️👀👌🏽💯
When I first seen that promo between Rock and Cena I was 13 years old. Not knowing too much about the business of wrestling at that time, I really just thought Cena cooked Rock, and I’m Cena fan so I was super bias with Cena at that time 🤣. I know better now though 😂. But looking at it now, it’s crazy how everything played out.
262 like! Love your work, Ross. Keep it up! You and Dub are hilarious and your knowledge and opinions of wrestling are so on-point. We were both wrong about Brock V Roman at SummerSlam '22 though
John dominated rock on the mic he was getting “cooked” by the rock and his usual catchphrases but man Cena in Boston and the notes on my wrist and his multiple raps for 7 years we couldn’t see you he was killing that man
Yeah, John Cena needed something to even that playing field during that feud because it was so one sided for so long. Also, Rock was building up the feud on social media when he wasn't there & there was a promo Rock did on Facebook that never made it to TV because it would have made Cena look bad. While that remark did level the playing field somewhat, he went about it the wrong way & should have approached it from a different way, as John admits in the video. Also the A&E documentary goes into greater detail on this feud, which is recommended to watch to get the full context
So your telling me that the only reason back in 2010 to 2017 the only reason john cena was hated is because he was winning matches and Championships alot that mist up and very nick picking
Pardon my ignorance, i am just starting to get back into wrestling. But could someone explain the situation and why the rock was genuinely mad with cena?
If Cena was let go I'm really not sure who woulda been their top guy around that time because Brock was really Vince's guy but he left and Cena got top spot.
To just quit wrestling after being fired from wwe because u refuse to do it anywhere else seems like u don’t actually love wrestling u just love the fame in my opinion
Don't blame him. Blame Vince for not giving other people the spotlight. If he did get fired, who would've stepped up? Rock left for Hollywood, Austin retired, Brock got sick of the hectic schedule and left. Vince would have been in a major dilemma
Stephanie mcmahon saved his career. On that said european tour he was doing some rapping and Steph told him to bring it on television and made it work... She saved his career
How did y’all feel about John Cena promo battle against the Rock back in the day
It was great
Its crazy looking back at it cena was getting the best of the rock during those face to face promos
It was electrifying 😂😂lol
Cena won it for me, I was so confused that he lost at Wrestlemania 28 … Wasn’t believable IMO

Rapping on the bus saved him & Cena / Rock promos are still great to me John was killing him in them joints to me.
Ross is getting CONTENT out of this one interview, I ain’t mad at it😂
It’s almost as if this is a reaction channel….
