- Fiat's 5" UConnect headunit is rubbish, and didn't really do the hifi upgrade justice so it had to go, but it's not quite as straightforward as simply swapping out a 5" for a 7" Uconnect headunit. So, here's what you need to know before you do it!

Hello from the USA, thanks for the video. Would you or anyone else know if this 7in will fit in USA 2017 500c double din space? If yes what is the stereo module? What is trim panel for left hand drive?
I’m tempted to give this a go on my tipo, the risk is to get all the equipment meant ie new partial dash, the unit plus the screen as they come separately but to fork out £350 second hand minimum and it might not work is a big risk

Great video, you make it look super easy! I've just got a 2018 595 Comp with 7" Uconnect with DAB and NAV but NO Carplay. Does that mean i only need the head unit? Assume I have GPS and DAB antenna? Thanks!
It is super easy if you take your time. I guess it depends on whether the GPS is internal to your unit? The one in this video required an external antenna. Have you checked to make sure you don’t have a unit that can’t be upgraded to CarPlay via software? Ask around in a forum, you might be lucky!

Have you tried to make a navigation update? I have the same 7" head unit and there is no update for navigation anymore, at least in germany.

Hi. I’ve bought the 7” & surround. I get the start up screen but next the keypad comes up for the code but it’s unresponsive do I need to proxy before typing the code in? Time works & temp. Have you got this video without Timelapse.

You need a code for the radio by the sound of it.
Where is the best place to pick a 7 inch up from as I have a 19 plate 595 with the 5 inch but want the 7 inch version with CarPlay , thanks

Did you have any trouble with the heater control back lights not lighting up after changing to the 7” display. I have noticed that the window switches and rear heated window are lit in the day, also do you know what the blue socket on the rear of the head unit is for as may car didn’t have a blue wire to plug in. Many thanks
No issues with lighting. Blue connector is most likely to be GPS aerial connector?

Great video, helped a lot to replace our unit. Did you have any issues with DAB following the change? Everything works a dream apart from DAB struggles with reception
No not at all, do you live in a poor reception area maybe? You could also try returning the unit for your area??
@@AngryBritain Thanks for the quick reply. Original unit works OK, just when I switch to the 7" the service becomes patchy. Maybe a dodgy connection then
@martinpowis9718 it was a long time ago that I did this and I’ll be honest I can’t remember what the aerial connection was. The previous unit was dab too so I’m pretty sure it was just plugged in via the original aerial cable. Maybe just check it not loose or as I say take the car somewhere with a clear view of the sky and try retuning the dab stations 👍
Great video! Recently got into Abarths - One reason I upgraded to the Turismo is the Nav, Gearknob & Leather! Good to see how i could have upgraded the head unit. Just out of interest: How much did you pay for the head unit w/surround? Also where did you end up getting the coding done and how much did it cost? Thanks..
Paid about 300 from eBay and someone in a local Abarth group did the coding

@samsowler4060 should be a straight swap - but you’ll need the surround too.
Can I just ask what that round thing is on your dash above the new head unit you have installed?
In the UK we get a turbo boost gauge. It’s absolutely pointless and just obscures vision forward.
I’ve just install a 2018 Fiat 7” unconnected to my 2017 595, the code I got for it didn’t work for a start. But also how do I get it to display abarth rather than Fiat?
It can probably be done as part of the proxy alignment process. You need to find someone who’s handy with a laptop and the software.
I have just followed your video and did exactly what you have done. My problem is I do not have a radio code with my 7” screen. Did you enter your code then do the proxi alignment afterwards? Tried proxi alignment today with the radio still locked and it didn’t work. Thanks for the excellent video and inspiration to do this mod.
Thanks man. At a guess I’d say you’d need the radio code first, and then the alignment. The radio is fully functional without it, it’s just the annoying flashing mileage that’s the issue until alignment is done. You should be able to get a radio code from eBay for a tenner
Question: I own a Fiat 500X 2015 with a 5 Uconnect Radio ( GPS AND RADIO) now if i want it to replace with a Uconnect 7 coming from a small Fiat 500 do you think that is fully compatible? I think about the rear cable connector wiring? Anyone can help on here? Thanks

Some have Carplay, some don't, do a bit of Googling for part numbers. You will need the surround regardless. I picked my unit up on eBay.

Best thing to do is ask within an Abarth group. Chances are there will be someone local to you who'll do it for you.

I have an Abarth series 3 (Brazil) and it doesn't have multimedia, and I want to install the Uconnect7 I need to change the panel and buy the frame right? can you tell me if there is a way to make it (Uconnect) compatible with the 3 series? (I say some specific number) sorry for the bad english

You don’t need any extra wiring other than a gps aerial if you want one, it will need coding to stop the mileage flashing though! Find someone in an Abarth forum to do it for you!

No 2018 onwards.
good, the only problem is that the kilometers only blink or would it have to be coded for other problems and the gps works without problems?
It's only the mileage that flashes, everything else works perfectly.
How do you fix the millage flashing
You need it coded out. Someone in your local Abarth group will have the software to do it.
Hi Nice video, i've already install by stock but there is any connection for a subwoofer? I would like to install it but before waste time to disassembly I ask you if there are any connection at the rear side of the radio. thanks in advace
No there is no sub input. If you watch my other videos you’ll see I installed a Kenwood Under Seat Sub using speaker level inputs. It sounded great!

Been looking into this, some say it works, others dont.... some say you loose functions on the dash, like stats or something?
Nope works perfectly. The only thing required to stop the flashing mileage is it to be coded in by someone who knows what they’re doing.
How does one in the US acquire the 7 inch unit. I have a 2019 US spec Abarth and want to upgrade to this head unit but don’t know where to look. Why Fiat didn’t offer this unit here when they did in Europe is beyond me

How do you get it programmed to stop the mileage flashing, is that all that the programming is needed for, does everything work on the head unit straight away ?
Everything works as it should but you need what’s called a Proxy Alignment to get the mileage to stop flashing. Best done by someone in an Abarth forum who knows what they’re doing or by a dealer. Mileage flashing becomes annoying really fast:

What GPS antenna should be purchased? I’m just looking at upgrading my system now but I’m confused by the different antennas on eBay saying they don’t fit a fiat 500 2016 lounge vehicle. Is it just one of the standard ones with a blue wire end? thank you!
Hoping you/someone can help and give advice. I’ve brought my (new to me) Fiat 500 lounge (late 2015) from a garage two weeks ago. On the journey home I noted that the radio unit kept turning off every three minutes and then restarting. It’s in a constant off-on loop. I pulled over and called the garage during my journey home and they’ve stated that it would be covered under the warranty but that they thought the unit may need reflashing/updating. I’ve Googled and found the Fiat site that shows any updates available but it states anything older than 2019 will need to go to a Fiat main dealer. In your option, is this the most likely issue? The TomTom seems to work but as the unit turns off every three minutes, I’ve been unable to check that. We’ve unplugged the battery but that hasn’t made a difference or reset anything. Is there anything else you think I need to try before contacting the garage again to push forward with getting it sorted? I have contacted a main Fiat dealership who’ve said they think it needs a whole new unit. If they’re unable to fix it or find a matching replacement, would the 7” be okay? Google states it’s 2016 models onwards for the newer version (hoping mine would class as a 2016 as it’s a late 2015).

No idea sorry. But likely power or software issue I imagine. If in warranty from garage it’s their problem, not yours. Let them deal with it.
Thanks for your quick reply. The car came with a 3 month warranty and I took out an extended premium 12 month warranty (this would usually exclude their 3 month warranty but they said either way, it would be covered). I’m meant to hear back from the Fiat garage tomorrow, I was just hoping to have options ready as they seemed to think it wouldn’t be fixable. I’m not sure if Fiat are still making the 5” screens (I can’t find any for sale other than on EBay) so thought this may be an option/upgrade if needed. This video (and your other videos) are super helpful and informative.

@@AngryBritainthe car went into a Fiat garage yesterday. They completed an update on the software and the stereo/unit now works as it should. The stop start isn't/wasn't working and I was told I need a new battery (which isn't covered under warranty). As I don't plan to use the stop/start I'm not going to change the battery (as the car has no issues starting).

I bought an Abarth Comp 2018 with car play and android auto, and I've never gotten mine to work with so many phones and cables - really frustrating lol trying to find out why it's not working is driving me insane

@@innovationdeluxe7515 yes I did solve it. I got someone in the abarth community to code apple carplay and android auto onto my head unit. Apparently it was a paid option to unlock it. But if you have the correct head unit it can be unlocked via coding it 👍🏼 good luck!

If anyone has bought a fiat 7” radio without a code - I have a guy who can get the code. I mistakenly bought a 2023 radio with a A3C serial number and tried everywhere to get a code. I even tried contacting a dealer who couldn’t get hold of it. Finally I found someone who managed to decode it by taking the back cover off the stereo and sending him a picture of the data matrix printed on the board inside. If you need a code I will pass on his details. Also if anyone is in the Hertfordshire area that’s need the proxi alignment sorting I can assist. Thank you

Go to the proxi alignment screen and press ALT CNTRL C and copy the config

I'm not sure but I don't think so as it's Carplay. You can probably connect it for BT streaming like usual though.
