For this tactic you will want to use no more than 50 Infantry inside the gate since the AI will bug out if you place to many. If you have over 50 infantry make a group of your strongest shield infantry and place them in the gate then you can place your other units either slightly further away from the gate in a square formation or keep them in reserve to throw javelins. You can also use 2-handed warriors to charge in and out while the enemy blobs up.

Well since he didn’t mention it I will. If your castle is being seized and they have towers and the ram, you already screwed up. There’s an option called “ambush” this will allow you to sally out your castle with a handful of troops (mounted if you have them) with the objective of destroying their siege machines. If you are successful in destroying them, the enemy will almost always launch their attack right after. Which means they have to scale ladders and if they don’t have heavily armored troops, they won’t stand a chance.
A army with 4 trebuchet and a castle with 4 onagers can’t happen normally in Bannerlord because of how the siege building works.both sides fire the whole time
yeah it sucks you don’t have any control over your own fiefs when your stuck inside them during a siege but at least when your the offensive force you can move the siege engines into the reserves as soon as their built so they don’t get shot at then move all 4 engines up at the same time while your siege towers or ram are being buikt
Your probably on PS5/Xbox x. I apologies in advance, the UI is god awful. Suffered a defeat in defense of hakkun castle, right as i claimed it. I was outnumbered 6 To 1 Thanks for reaching me this tactic. I am going To have vengeance on those khuzeit horse molesters.
It's funny to watch :P but I don't like the idea of making them run backwards agan by opening the outer gate. The storming of the gate from the inside on the other hand does seem realistic.
So I tried this but what do I do about the ram? My castle usually makes ballistas instead of catapults so the ram never gets damaged or destroyed. Also a part of my troops don’t listen to my orders to hold positions and still hit the walls, what do to stop that? Sorry I’m new 😅 thanks in advance
Does anybody know how to command Hero's on PS4?? Or like how to command specific soldiers to which positions. For example if I have some Valandian Spearmen and I have a bunch of cavalry coming at me how to I make it so those Valandian Spearmen get to the front of the line in a shield wall?
I think you could put spearmen in their own unit and do it that way. I’m on console too and it seems like it’s way too clunky and it seems much clunkier than PC for giving specific commands.
Every time I try this, my soldiers just close the gate on me. I don’t even order them to, they just do it anyway. I have to fight my way back into my walls. It’s really stupid
Make sure you change them into shield wall and they will start listening to you. If you don’t change their formation they will run to the walls and ai will take over
1. Yes that type of strategy works just fine. 2. No they not send their high tiers in first, that's your game settings preferring high level spawn order, which is also something to make this easier as high tier infantry in the gatehouse literally never takes damage against lower tiers where the higher tiers spawning first got peppered by arrows into their backs. 3. Battle size 600, things would look a little diffrent with a 1000 as far more troops try to push in at once and arrows take less of them down. 4. It doesn't work with crossbows as they don't refill their ammo ever and usually have less damage and projectiles late game. 5. It does with archers for any battle size if you sometimes manually run them to arrow barrels as archers actually do replenish their ammo close to arrows on the ground and quivers and barrels. 6. Well a captain with tactics and or leadership because of the perks for morale damage among the archers can inprove this a lot and their morale breaks very. Very. Very often that almost half of the enemies actually run away. 7. Lower battle sizes work better with this as defenders no matter the total numbers and reinforcements always try to make up 50% of the battle size troops on siege If their numbers are sufficient. If not the remaining get filled by enemies. 8. You cannot pick the siege engines that get built in defense in a campaign so good luck trying it with ballistas unless you 9. Save scum right before siege camp preparations of the enemy until your city or castle builds onagers. You won't really destroy a ram by Sally out if one third of enemy infantry is close by to defend it 10. Don't try that with realistic battle mod. Only one third of enemy infantry will try to open the gate the remaining will search for targets to attack
How do you order your catapults to aim for the ram only? Do you need the RTS camera mod for that? In the battle itself the only thing i can see is my charakter in the gate house. No need to say you cant order your troops properly while stayin inside.
This video was really helpful.. only thing is I have some cavalry and horse archers, should I just put them in a different castle for every siege or is there any way I can use them during the siege??? Thanks if you answer me! Love the video!
I would use everyone you have to defend your castle. Horse archers and cavalry can still be useful in a siege defense. Just be cautious not to lose too many. For attacking castles leave your horse units behind.
i love and hate how effective this is; sometimes Bannerlord got it's AI acting so goofy and buggy it kinda of takes the feeling of a last stand or epic battle
Even better: Open the config file and set the binary "cheat codes" = 1. Then you can kill people at your leisure or all at once with F4 or ATL + F4. you can also teleport across the map, look at and take all units and items in the game to your party. Now i dont recommend this if you are a new player. I just have 600 hours in the game and Im sick of starting from scratch when I try new mods. This gets you up to speed pretty quick
Makes me wonder if it's possible to take all units to a castle siege, ie if you are able to control at least one castle from one of the main factions, you can be able to use all existing units to attack a castle
RTS Camera and select the unit that is on the onager and middle click the enemy formation controlling the ram. You'll make all onagers target the ram but will make your troops not on the onagers run in place. You can also take control of an onager to help out. (Should only take 4-6 rock onager shots)
This is cool and all and I get that it's a single player game so have fun how you like, but is there an effective way to defend a castle if you don't want to use exploits? So far in every test I've tried the castles wind up getting at the very best ~~1.5 KDR (without literally using Fians vs Peasants etc).
The perk that gives you an attack DMG bonus in simulations (when you choose send troops instead of joining the fight yourself) Helps immensely for siege defense for the exact reason it advertises for.
I'm currently defending a castle and can't win with 1000 heavily armored units attacking my 800 units, I myself manage to kill around 150 but the problem is when I'm almost done with finishing attackers, all the time they're getting a 600+ additional recruits during siege т_т
@@SpartanIsGaming unfortunately I can't use the tactic from this video since I'm on another castle, I tried different stuff but I just realized that it's literally impossible to win this fight since they're getting additional help during the fight when my defender are all almost dead. And I don't know why (probably because there's not much space) but half of my archers are just standing inside towers not shooting at all and just waiting before the others archers die and only after that they come out. Also the thing is, most of attackers army is high level units while half of my defence is built on sons of farmers using rusty pitchforks as weapons xD
The big question is, how to know where is going to siege the enemy, cause always for me at least the siege has started and i need to lose a few units to get the gates and help defenders... Haha
How important is it for yourself to stick to the outer gate? I'm running bannerlord without mods so I can't really get a tactical view with RTScamera. I'd prefer to scout with my main guy but I'm worried about it. I'd love if you showed off how to destroy the ram without siege defenses.
By sticking close to the gate and opening and closing it you are resetting the ai so they don’t start to fight your infantry. If you have over 30 infantry alive in the gate you can run around but keep in mind you won’t be able to get back in. It’s risky but you should be okay to run around.
"Sadly" they fixed it partly. The AI won't freak out and run back and forth to the gate, but they still ignore the archers/ballistics and run directly to the gate.
The AI glitches out and runs back and fourth once you open and close the gate when they are almost to the gate. It’s even more likely to break them if they have a siege tower they climb.
If Skynet ever unleashes an army of Terminators to kill us all, you'll be our John Connor.

Awesome video I'm deff trying this today lol 😂
Can you go into that bird's eye view troop command on console? Or is that a computer only feature?
Its a mod. "RTS Camera" on Nexus
That's really helpful. Thanks
A army with 4 trebuchet and a castle with 4 onagers can’t happen normally in Bannerlord because of how the siege building works.both sides fire the whole time
yeah it sucks you don’t have any control over your own fiefs when your stuck inside them during a siege but at least when your the offensive force you can move the siege engines into the reserves as soon as their built so they don’t get shot at then move all 4 engines up at the same time while your siege towers or ram are being buikt
you can if you put them to reserve
right click on the siege engine when it is completed.
but yes not while defending because AI doesn't do it
Your probably on PS5/Xbox x. I apologies in advance, the UI is god awful. If you haven’t realized yet, all party members can smith and to craft other weapons (non one hand sword) you have to click on free build. I loved warband/ bannerlord on console but sometimes playing a non modded version is a nightmare.
@@user-wq9mw2xz3j holy shit...
Had no idea you can place troops like that I just say archers stand here at the battle prep
hahahahahah you turned bannerlord into bloons tower defense very epic
Legendary. Thank you
This worked for me only problem I had was my guys didn’t target the battering ram
This is so good thank this is my exact situation
Suffered a defeat in defense of hakkun castle, right as i claimed it. I was outnumbered 6 To 1
Thanks for reaching me this tactic. I am going To have vengeance on those khuzeit horse molesters.
Alternate title: Bannerlord Baloon Tower Defence 5
Bannerlord balloon tower defense, I Iike it!
Thank you soo much I destroyed battania with this tactic
Watching this video as owner of a fresh kingdom with 200 soldiers with 1200 army siegieng my only castle :D
Good Luck on your Siege Defense Spartan!
@@SpartanIsGaming Realm of The First Men will stand strong
It freaking worked :D
However i had to open the gates and swiftly destroy the ram by hand :D
It’s perfectly balanced
It's funny to watch :P but I don't like the idea of making them run backwards agan by opening the outer gate. The storming of the gate from the inside on the other hand does seem realistic.
I won a castle, then a army of 4k came behind me and attacked the same castle i just conquered, it was 200 vs 4000, and still won
The only thing I did was make the troops follow the sergeants, I had 23 wounded and 4 deaths
@@fire_eliteyt how. I have an army of 700 vs an army 3000 trying to escape this one 😢
High King Caladog liked this.
I’ll have a new tactic video out soon for if you can not destroy the ram. It’ll completely freeze the enemy in place
You have to make sure none of your troops are near your gate or assigned to guard the gate or they’ll close it
Wow, that was so cool :D
Ty master!!
WTF this AI?
Great video btw ;d
My archers didn't feel like staying where I told them to
Make sure you change them into shield wall and they will start listening to you. If you don’t change their formation they will run to the walls and ai will take over
Another great video
Glad you liked it!
This reminds me of watching Skyrim guides on 2012...
8. You cannot pick the siege engines that get built in defense in a campaign so good luck trying it with ballistas unless you
9. Save scum right before siege camp preparations of the enemy until your city or castle builds onagers. You won't really destroy a ram by Sally out if one third of enemy infantry is close by to defend it
10. Don't try that with realistic battle mod. Only one third of enemy infantry will try to open the gate the remaining will search for targets to attack
My only question to this tactic is, the archers will not eventually run out of ammo ? 🤔
In a siege defense your archers have unlimited arrows
Don't they need to refill on the barrels aß we do? All the barrels i know of are on the walls
@@hanneswurstbrot6902 I believe only the player needs to use those
Ive read too if you stack like 3-400 hogh tier u its in the castles and towns they are pretty much inoregnable once upgraded.
классный ролик, старая тактика, но прятать воинов между первыми и вторыми воротами умно))
Do I just dismount them ans use them as archers and infantry?
Also on what did you use the 2 other archer divisions?
Cavalry is automatically dismounted for siege battles.
The 2 other archer divisions were assigned to the left and right flanks to cover the enemy going over the walls.
I will remember this
This works very well, but try to do that on talivel castle (i found out that by a hard way)
Interesting Bug Abuse. But somehow the game becomes less and less interesting for me the more I see how the mechanics can be exploited.
i love and hate how effective this is; sometimes Bannerlord got it's AI acting so goofy and buggy it kinda of takes the feeling of a last stand or epic battle
I'd rather call this a trick than a tactic but anyway quite impressive!
Awsome job bro
Thanks man!
I had the game for a week, all I can say, it’s a cheesin time.
Your tactics are amazing bro. But how you do that with the camera?
I use a mod called RTS Camera
Does it costa lot of money. And is for play too or?
I have some problems performing this tactic that my archers just automatically go to the walls and dir during this
Select all your archers and command them f3+ face the enemy and then place them. They wont reinforce the walls anymore
Makes me wonder if it's possible to take all units to a castle siege, ie if you are able to control at least one castle from one of the main factions, you can be able to use all existing units to attack a castle
... missing info here X) how to focus ram, how to move camera liek u do just two of em xD
RTS Camera and select the unit that is on the onager and middle click the enemy formation controlling the ram. You'll make all onagers target the ram but will make your troops not on the onagers run in place. You can also take control of an onager to help out. (Should only take 4-6 rock onager shots)
I have a 175 v 1500.. I don't think I'll make it guys
We’ll play never thought about that
Proof that Ai in mound and blade is way dumber than Ai in total war.
Cool
This is cool and all and I get that it's a single player game so have fun how you like, but is there an effective way to defend a castle if you don't want to use exploits? So far in every test I've tried the castles wind up getting at the very best ~~1.5 KDR (without literally using Fians vs Peasants etc).
The perk that gives you an attack DMG bonus in simulations (when you choose send troops instead of joining the fight yourself)
Helps immensely for siege defense for the exact reason it advertises for.
Does anyone know how to operate Siege equipment in PS5/4??? A video on that would be great!
Elon Musk: "AI is a fundamental existential risk for human civilization."
AI:
awesome video
I'm currently defending a castle and can't win with 1000 heavily armored units attacking my 800 units, I myself manage to kill around 150 but the problem is when I'm almost done with finishing attackers, all the time they're getting a 600+ additional recruits during siege т_т
The recruits at the end should be the easy part since they have low morale and are weak to archers. Are you using the tactic in this video or another?
@@SpartanIsGaming unfortunately I can't use the tactic from this video since I'm on another castle, I tried different stuff but I just realized that it's literally impossible to win this fight since they're getting additional help during the fight when my defender are all almost dead. And I don't know why (probably because there's not much space) but half of my archers are just standing inside towers not shooting at all and just waiting before the others archers die and only after that they come out. Also the thing is, most of attackers army is high level units while half of my defence is built on sons of farmers using rusty pitchforks as weapons xD
Crazy
my army just doesnt stay in formation. The archers will immediately go to the wall and get killed, same with the infantry. Can anyone help?
Tell them to change formation, like go into line formation and then command them to go to a point and they will start listening to you
The big question is, how to know where is going to siege the enemy, cause always for me at least the siege has started and i need to lose a few units to get the gates and help defenders... Haha
They attack the weakest castle/city that’s along the border of both factions.
Played for 3 months and I only just notice I could drag troop in formation
Ty
"Sadly" they fixed it partly. The AI won't freak out and run back and forth to the gate, but they still ignore the archers/ballistics and run directly to the gate.
The AI glitches out and runs back and fourth once you open and close the gate when they are almost to the gate. It’s even more likely to break them if they have a siege tower they climb.
@@SpartanIsGaming They didn't went back to the start, when I opened the front gate.
My troops runs automatically to the walls. How do you make them steady?
Immediately give them any command like line or shield wall. There will always be some who man the siege engines if you have them
The only way I get my Archers to stay i position is to put them in shield wall, then they don't fire. Any suggestions?
Spread them out while in shield wall so there’s only 1 line. If you have to long of a line split the group and put the extra somewhere else.
Thank you! How do you get the onager's to focus the ram? Also do I need to assign people to man them?
