  • Enjoy this video from my last day at the 2024 old fashioned Concrete fly-in in Concrete, WA. It's a lovely little airport with a very well attended yearly fly-in. I look forward to next year!

Really nice arrival and departure shots, that looks like a great fly-in with lots of nice general aviation action.

Beautiful country up there--incredible hiking opportunities! I forget the name of the tent/cabin/RV campground nearby with all the rabbits. Trash barrels full of donated/expired bread. Not tame rabbits but awful cute!

I have never taken the controls of a light, single engine aircraft. But I have watched educational videos and actually know my way around basic instrumentation in that I know where things are located, generally. Having laid out that groundwork, I have said that I _think_ that if I were suddenly alone, airborne, in such an aircraft in good weather, I could probably bring it down gently enough to walk away from it. I don't think I want to try it, but I think I could.

Unless you stalled it in flight and basically fell from the sky, you would probably hit the ground vertically at comparatively low speeds of maybe 20 mph. Assuming the ground is fairly smooth, you would have to contact the ground in relatively level flight and of course not hit any stationary object during the whole ordeal. Get by all of those question marks, and you would probably walk away.

The Barefoot Bandit managed it a few times. The planes were ruined, but he was fine.

One of, if not the first, thing to do is determine the stall speed of the particular aircraft and make certain not to go below it until you are very close to the ground. Also remember stall speed increases in a turn.

I thought so too until I actually did it, once you understand that you’re FLYING the airplane to the ground you should be good, also remember “pitch for airspeed, power for altitude”. Goodluck!!! 💪🏼

I thought I had an optical illusion at about minute 7.35. I thought I've seen 2 women and someone on a wheelchair right at the side edge of the runway, while aircraft landed. I rewinded the movie and saw that, no, I wasn't wrong. It was not an optical illusion. There where indeed 2 irresponsible adults jeopardising their lives and probably the life of the person on the wheelchair. Remarkable the lack of good common sense of this 3 persons.
