I had a sprint triathlon, standard distance triathlon and then a 10k race within 2 weeks time. So had no chance to start a taper. My cycle and swim were at their strongest due to this intensity!
Great topic, 2-4 days of less volume and intensity is typical, if it's an A race and I have a ton of volume leading into it and it's a 4+ hour race, then I will reduce load and keep intensity 5-7 days out. I've never done an Ironman, but I think 10 days would be max, but still keep intensity and at least 90 min rides / 60 min runs will be kept in till about 10 days out. Then cut down 10-15% per day till race day.
Global Triathlon Network my hm pb was a month after ironman. Also banked some good 10ks the weeks after. Taper on tri is difficult because each sport could be at a different place, whereas during my run only seasons ive found taper quite straightforward
wow this is just what i need! i'm 4 weeks out from my first 70.3 without any coaching, just training by myself. i've initially planned on doing a sprint tri (although there is an OD), which is 2 weeks before my 70.3, with our local tri club. but seeing this video makes me commit to the OD now. thanks GTN!
Nice video! Race week tapered progressively, also used to have huge taper before swimming national championships and that didn't work either so max 1 week (or less) and same intensity^^ but still making experiments here.
Totally fascinating as always. Is it normal to want to eat a house in this time..? No? Or in recovery weeks? Really struggle with this. Maybe not doing enough of the short very intense stuff to suppress appetite. Hmm. Advice?
I've had great races with no tapering, great races with 3 weeks taper, but I'm not completely sure how my body responds to this. Strava has a fitness and freshness graph with fatigue form and fitness but it's hard to figure out if what Strava says is in line with how you really are able to perform. Anyway I often rest for at least 3 days before a race because after a long buildup I feel every abuse my body's gone through, it's almost as if I could feel it repair itself, and that's also the time I need to fuel the tank. Definitely a hard topic
HELP: My fitness has plateaued, I only have time for turbo sessions in the week and occasionally a longer ride at the weekend, how do I increase fitness?
Typical rule of thumb I've found is more volume = less rest prior to race days, guess thats said in the video, Summary if u didnt watch video i guess ;)
What about the weight...You are at your perfect weight because you are training hard and burning a lot of calories and stuff, but when you train less, you probably won´t eat much less...How to manage it?
How long do you taper before a race?

Mini-taper of 1-2 days pre small race (sprint/oly). 1 week taper for A race.
1 day
I got my 1st triathlon and it’s a 70.3, absolutely bricking it and it’s this Sunday 😢😂
Need advice the day b4

Awesome! Glad you found the video useful
Yes! Agree with the guilt factor. If I only do one discipline a day or worse, have a rest day, I feel like I’m tanking it and ruining my training.
So much knowledge !!! Thank you all !

Thanks, it takes some experimenting to know what exactly works for your body
Dominik 95 PL, great to hear it's not just me then!
Superb advice cheers guys 👍
You're welcome!

Cheers! Stay tuned for plenty more

Great info, thanks!!
So to start with it is simply a case of trial and error?
Keeping up that American pronunciation Jesse! Heelbron

Hi Matt, it can be pretty tough to fit in training. Always make sure it's quality over quantity and really make every session you do count.
Matt Parsons more running

Good point Camilo. Most people find that exercise increases their hunger, so it is important to listen to your body
Camilo Aranguren you're quite right and yes you have to moderate your intake if you're reducing volume or you will put weight on.
