Great video of your gear! I have the "Made in Japan" Geddy Lee Jazz bass I bought in 2004 while living in New Jersey and put Bartolini p/ups on it. I switched back to the originals! Yours always sounds great...low end growl with clear sustain. Your playing is...well...awesome! Please keep the vids coming Tim!

Crazy amount of technical information! Tim you are an absolutely amazing musician!!!
Fun fact: I started my first band in 1985 with a friend who played a black Rickenbacker bass (of course because he (and I) are huge Rush fans). It had a square chunk wood filler in the back of the body that was supposed to be the result of a bullet from its past. Who knows the legitimacy but it made for a great story.

Hey Tim, thanks so much for the rundown. We met in Salt Lake City for the release party of Resonance and I was fortunate enough to meet you and talk bass playing. If you remember, I, like you, had taken some time off and have been playing again for a few years and you encouraged me to keep working hard. I'm in the beginnings of starting my recording setup and your rig rundown has helped immensely. I may have some questions on your keyboard interface later, but I can't wait to see you guys again. Hopefully, we can become good friends.

Love those auto lock straps, have been using them on my guitars for a very long time. My only issue since moving into bass over the past 3 months is the weight of 5 string basses and some heavier guitars. Never had one fail or have issues. Have had a couple other strap locks fail over my 30 years of playing. Def love the d’Adarrio lock straps, great product for the price!

Thanks Tim. Just put my Getty Lee jazz bass in the shop to this really get loose here who took my friend John Rainey‘s place because of his health and I’m having a put a new Graphtec nut replace of the cheap plastic one some of the strains that you recommended the deed aerials set the neck and the intonation it’s been about six years needed it.
About the video you played in play around about I’m not trying to be mean or nasty I’m not that kind of person especially to musicians just trying to set it straight of the part that you in a lot others are playing that you’re missing the descending run listen to roundabout but yes in HD you can clearly hear that descending run all right buddy thanks for your videos I love your awesome keep them coming!🤘

I have mirror image to your Rickenbackers. I have a 1982 4001 in Black that needs rebuilt after I played it straight into the ground. I also have a white 1978 4001. I’ve owned both since the late ‘80’s. I love them. I do not have your amp collection though. 😍

  • @stevenordstedt2535
    @stevenordstedt2535 3 роки тому

Hey Tim, Geddy Lee Nordstedt here! Lol
That’s what my friends that I played with in the 80’s called me. Because I could Sing and Play Rush and sound like Geddy! That’s also how I had Getty Lee signed my Getty Lee‘s big beautiful book of bass in 2019 when I met him at his book signing in Philadelphia Center city with my friend Rob who’s a rush fan
And bought me my book in his as well and I couldn’t seem to get one.
Anyways that being said my question to you is. I have a 1978 Rickenbacker Mapleglow. But in 81 I traded this kid a guitar distortion box for a Leo Quan bad to gold plated bridge that match the maple. After that band I started playing part-time with a drummer and a Guitar Player. And I asked Guitar Player if he knew anybody to get put the bridge on.
He said I can I work for G & L guitars in LA. So he put it on and because of the time I played with a pic I wanted to action to be as low as possible without front of us and he put it on and it’s sounded and played excellent ever since I bought a 1981. But since I retired it. I’ll be 61 years young in May. And I was thinking if I ever do sell it but I don’t know if I will cause it was my first bass and I’ve had it all these years. That I was going to put the original bridge on it which I never liked. Or a Babbits bridge. And if I put a Babbitz bridge on it will that hurt the resale value since it’s a 1978.

Hey Tim I too am a big Geddy fan. And have been playing and Singing Geddy since 1981. But I like your Rig Rundown Video. And thank you for that. At now 60 years older. Lol. I’ve been out of the Rock Sceen for a few years now. But as you know being a musician is a sickness LOL.
Meaning I just jumped back into playing again but not doing regular gigs bars in places like that. As I was burn out from the 80s 90s until 2010 I played all of the United States including Hawaii I know Hawaii is a state LOL. But my question is I just bought a crown XLS 1502 Power amp. He sans amp RBI, Furman Power Conditioner and a gator rack to put it in.
All this to get a good sound I like. Similar to Gettys but without all the or not as much of the distortion. As we’re playing a lot of different songs from different groups. All that being said my question is should I get rid of a crown and by the GKNB 800 fusion. My GKRB 800 from the 80s finally took a crap it was good for a long time but as you know these heads have problems with heat. So that’s why I bought the crown power amp and bought a separate Preamp a Sansamp RBI.
And I have a 2005 second generation Getty Lee Japanese jazz bass. I had it set up the Bass Central in Orlando for years ago and it definitely made a big difference. But I still get a clicking terrible clicking when I turn up the trouble on my base I turn it down and of course it goes away but in doing that I lose the good tone I want. Do you have this problem with your Getty Lee jazz Japanese/Mexico tomorrow and if you did what did you do to remedy it. A friend of mine who is a luthier so I should have the frets plecked I put a plaque machine that does that what do you think.

Killer rundown man! I’ve played the bass recently after 6 years of not really vibing with guitar and this is it for me. I am IN love with bass guitar. I groove with it naturally and it would sound like a bunch spiritual mumbo jumbo to some but some of you get it. I want to invest into a pro rig. I’ve got some money to spend. I’m thinking a good P and J and a rack with some power cabs. Rack/Power cabs or SVT and fridge?

    P.S. I also have since 1981. A 1978 Rickenbacker. But it’s a Mapleglow.
I use to go to see Rush and study Geddys
Fingering of YYZ and a few others I couldn’t quite figure out. And noticed the bridge was different. Found out it was A Leo Quan bad ass to bridge. This kid came to one of her practices he had a milk crate with a gold plated one in there and I traded him a guitar distortion pedal for it. I was playing with a guitar player and a drummer were very good out of LA. Come to find out that Guitar Player worked for G & L guitars and built them.
I showed have my new Leo Quan got us to bridge still in the wrapper. I said do you know anybody that can put this on for me that’s professional he said yeah me I work for G & L guitars.
I said awesome he says I’ll have it back by the next practice next week I said OK.
I played with a pic of those days and the actual is so low but it never got any fret buzz no clicking like my Getty Lee jazz bass and my PRS does. Now they got the newer bridges like you have on your Rick but I don’t know if I wanna change it out it’s a part of that bass and I played it all over the US doesn’t look as nice because it’s got a gap there it was covered by the old bridge but I don’t care still plays awesome I’ve pretty much retired at the last eight years. As I live in Central Florida there’s a lot of criminals here a little love to rip that off so I keep at home.

Hi Tim, thanks so much for the demo of all your gear. As you know I've been wanting to learn more about the Cantabile/VST/keyboard controller setup. Any chance of doing a short video on how you setup controller via usb, find/load a vst patch and get it to output etc. I have similar setup but am trying to utilize my Roland DS73, Studiologic MPK117 MIDI pedals, and laptop and couldn't figure it out (Cantabile) so I deleted it. I was doing research on the M-AUDIO board you have but again feel so "dumb" that I can't "get it" LOL! As always, not looking for Rush patches/secretes, just want to be able to trigger patches/samples on my board and MIDI pedals. Thanks as always for any info you can supply.

Tim, you’ve got to see this young kid play
Leave that thing alone on bass.
The kid is good he nails it not just in the fingerings but his right hand flamingo playing like Geddy plays what I’m working on now he’s really good.

Hi Tim, I'm a bass player who wants to have a go at playing bass pedals, and keys live, and I would love to see you make a little video on when you are using the Cantabile program. It's so hard to find videos on YT about anything related to pedals and such. All you find is Moogs and other analog stuff that cost an arm and a leg. I was thinking about trying out an MAudio 61and the Keith McMillen 12-step.

But now theres the Babicz. wondering if I should have one of those insted. plus it hides the hold in front of the old bridge. I hate to change now.after all these years. it plays so good its my number 1.

In the 80s where there was a moderately popular band called Krokus. Their lead singer was (still is, I think) Mark Storace. In an interview, he said it was pronounced like Stor-ach-ee. Without that, I'd have thought 'Star Ace' too. Which is kinda cool -- like Ace Frehley + the Rush star-man. (In fact, Ace would've been perfect playing the guitar discovering protagonist in 2112, the movie.)

Just curious, I didn't see a regular instrument cable coming out of the Sansamp pedal, only an XLR. Do you send the signal to the front of the ampeg with a regular guitar cable or is the signal somehow getting to the Ampeg via the XLR?

Tim, just curious. How do you have the inside trim pots set on the EBS? Mine are still both at 12 o’clock.

does anyone have a Para Driver vs Bass Driver? I like a lotta stoner rock tones ala Kyuss, and i’m trying to find something that’ll get that tone in a pedal.

The Para has a sweepable mid control so I am pretty sure you can dial in just about anything with it

Hey Tim, I bought the Sans Amp RBI. Whats the diference between the RBI & the RPM?

    • @TimStarace
      @TimStarace  3 роки тому

RPM has a parametric mid control whilst the RBI has a Presence knob.
