    Hey jazza, I have a cool idea for a Pokémon series. So you take random Pokémon, and make them into super cool, humanoid superheroes. You can work with any body types, muscular, thin, fat, graceful, anything you would want to do. And it only has to be mostly humanoid. You can have tails, fins, or head crest, anything that makes the Pokémon itself, but translated into more realistic settings.
    Also, I’m glad that your doing more drawing tutorials, I love all the challenges you’ve been doing, but I’m a young artist, and your tutorials have helped me so much. Thanks Jazza!

    • @dylanwilson8965
      @dylanwilson8965 6 років тому +6

      JosephPowell okay, first look up a picture of hands and just draw it as realistically as possible, not talking super realistic, but make it look as close to the original photo as possible. Then keeping that hand in mind try drawing random hands in random positions, you can even look up and draw multiple hands if you want, but make each hand in a different position than the last. Hope this helps, and if you have trouble drawing hands then just look at your own in the position you want to draw, it does help.

    One tip for understanding perspectives is to go out and do some photography with some different lens focal lengths. Take notice how the scene compression changes from wide, to standard, to telephoto and take note how that compression effects your vanishing point. Do landscapes, portraits, objects from high, low perspectives, wide, standard and telephoto. Study how they differ and most importantly what is more pleasing to each subject. I have found too often that people get stuck in doing drawing from the shoulder hight standard perspective and their art work dramatically improves once they understand all the planes of perspective.

    How in the world do you draw people so well? I never can draw anything organic. I can draw mechanical things easier, so therefore my drawings usually consist of abandoned buildings in an Aperture Science stylish theme.

    • @cindy8966
      @cindy8966 6 років тому +32

      I have the opposite problem. I can draw decent people, but my backgrounds are shit.

    • @CryoGX
      @CryoGX 6 років тому +18

      Everyone's got an inherent style so certain things will either come easier or you'll just start out the gate with certain tendencies of your own, so it's not bad at all to lean towards drawing your strengths, especially if you like it.
      Drawing anything well's pretty subjective to the person that's drawing imo, but you pretty much become better by, if nothing else, keeping at it.
      Finally, drawing "bad" isn't a problem that you just up and fix if you want to; it's something that you commit to regardless of how frustrated you feel throughout in efforts to better yourself, and then realize that when you do get better than you can only continue to get better, so you never stop. The only force that *can* stop you is yourself.

      (Not so) Pro tip, drawing Organic vs. Mechanical is all about the line weight. Especially if you draw in more comic book/cartoon styles as opposed to realistic styles, which I don't know if you do or not but this might still help you. Basically, organic things have varying line weight, the lines get thicker and thinner around curves and never stay completely uniform and straight, even when the line itself is a straight line. Whereas mechanical or background images tend to have much more uniform lines, without any difference in thickness between each line, which is what gives it that super clean feeling. An example might be a human cheek, the line will usually be thicker right where the curve reaches its apex, making the curve look softer. And then it thins out at the jawline to make the jaw look sharp.

    I've really been confused about sketching poses and such and also embarrassed about making mistakes on the legs and arms, being frustrated about it instead of changing poses. I've never thought about making a really rough sketch and then re-doing it on another paper. Definitely something to keep in mind next time. Pretty insightful videos.
    I'll definitely try to relax and try to re-do a drawing instead of just stressing over the mistakes.

    I do believe Jazza just gave probably the best bit of advice I've ever heard when it comes to drawing: Lower your expectations. He's totally right. It is perfectly OK to not beat yourself up over a drawing that didn't turn out as epic as you wanted. More of us need to be reminded of this more often. You win at advice, Jazza! :D

I'm actually trying to start an illustration that has an environment with a frozen river/lake/stream. Hi Jazza! I'm a really big fan of all the inspiring videos you make and I have to say when I watched this video it seriously helped me, especially what you said about over-comitting to the sketching, in recent drawings if I'm not satisfied, I will erase and re-draw as many times as I want until I end up with what I want. Basically, I just wanted to give you a big thanks because my artistic progress had hit a roadblock for a while, and now with these helpful videos I'm learning so many new things that are easing the process and making it a hell of a lot more enjoyable. Keep going strong Jazza! :)

    I have two questions for all you artists out there:
    1. I‘m at my very beginning of becoming an artist and I wanted to ask you if you could recommend me any videos or literature at where to start (I can‘t afford an expensive art course also I‘m just 15) and what is the style to „start“ with when one got the basics down (I don‘t know if that makes any sense, because, as stated before, I‘m at my very beginning at becoming an artist) and
    2. What are your greatest inspirations and how do you stay motivated especially when learning something new.
    Sorry for my English if it‘s not perfect, due to the fact I‘m not a native speaker (that may be the cause of sth not making sense, but I hope you‘ll get my point)

    • @knownevildoer
      @knownevildoer 6 років тому +5

      Jesus Christ This may not be the best advice (I've only been drawing for about a year and I'm only a kid hohoho.) but you should try using UA-cam videos (Like Jazza's, Lavendertowne, and yea.) first then when you are able afford classes you can start them. And sometimes I use music, other people's art, books, to inspire myself to draw. Idk, that's how I came to where I am today.

      There are lots of other amazing art youtubers that provides complete tutorials on their channels!
      Markcrilley videos are simple and very easy to follow. Very useful for beginners.
      Sycra is also a good one that I watch.
      Ahmed Aldoori ways of teaching is very comprehensible.
      Kienan Lafertty is an amazing artist, even though his tutorials are mostly for more advanced artist rather than begginers.
      Proko is a VERY great channel to learn anatomy for both new learners and old.
      And Art Ala Carte is a pretty good tutorial channel, especially if your media is markers.
      Also another amazing and talented one is Ross draws! He doesn't do tutorials but his videos never fail to inspire me.

      Just draw and if you have something difficult to you don't be afraid to ask for help an don't be afraid to copy after you copy just add some differences in your style also use references, look up pictures of what you want to draw and DRAW and if you don't know what to draw just downloaded a game called Jazza's Arty Games or for free you can download an app called What to Draw? Which is what I use. :)

    • @callawaythepuppy29
      @callawaythepuppy29 6 років тому

      Jesus Christ my advice would be before you start drawing tutorials, just draw plain poses of what you want to draw. Find your own drawing style. I recommend quickly drawing a person, animal, etc. really quickly and seeing how you did the eyes, mouth, nose, and body. Assess what you did and draw the same thing on a separate sheet of paper, except refine the lines that you just did. That should give you your art style.
      For being motivated, I draw zentangles. ( they are what you see in coloring books.) Zentangles (I call them that I'm not sure if it's the official name) also get my creative juices going with all of the fun patterns and designs. I'm usually motivated all of the time and I'm motivated easily, so it might not help much, but it helps me. If you read all of this, then cool. Good day 😀
