Got mine and it is really great stuff. So glad you got that process and making the stuff. I think the stiff material you use is perfect. When the edge is worn some I just cut it off for a new edge.
I did the same thing 35 years ago, going down the stairs to the basement, two on one side and one on the other. This is a great space saver and prevents trips up and down the stairs to the store space i have in the basement.
Fun project, you sure have a helluva lot more spices than I do, that's for sure. Can't believe how big the kids are. Ava is so damned cute, my goodness! And Mateo is the ham he's always been. Great to see them. Love the dance.
Not only are you talented at woodworking but this is also entertaining. After my husband bought a special smoker/ grill/ griddle we began to collect different spice combos, too. Thank you.
Great video that’s a lot of bbq spices but that’s a great idea. Thanks for sharing love seeing the kids in the shop and at the house helping out can’t wait to see as they get older if they like to do woodworking like their dad. I think more kids need stuff like this in their life instead of video games great job.
We built a pull-out spice rack tgat goes between fridge & cabinets outta fence pickets & dowels... it turned out amazing & freed up so much cupboard space. We live in a rental, so it's a perfect solution for us!
I've been using the Chica Licka Bam Bam lately and I can't stop. I think it's cool that your build is both practical and allows you to "display" your collection rather than having it hidden away or stacked three deep in a cabinet where things go to die.
Nice! I went whole hog and recessed the fridge and nuker in my parents old kitchen. Took up a smidge of garage space but it was worth it in the kitchen. Been loving these use if space ideas ever since.
I just wish my pantry had that much wall space to work with. I am stuck with using the inside of the door. Yours looks great. Easy project. Inexpensive. Not in need of much time either. You should have left some room for expansion though. It looks full already. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Great little project. TWW loves some spices I see. Your kids are adorable. Ava, the painting princess, did a great job. “ Liar liar pants on fire” lol. Your son hamming it up was hilarious too. “What’s that song called”? “It’s called, eh eh ih ih eh” The kids had me cracking up!
Great idea. I need more storage in my mud room and this idea will work perfectly. So cool! This video goes into my home update folder. Thanks Marc. Woohoo. Also I am really happy you are allowing your kids into the shop to not only be with you but are able to play around with the wood and tools. Letting your daughter paint got me a little misty. My daughter is grown and married. We still get in my shop when she visits.😊
We did pretty much the same thing in our kitchen about 27 years ago. We have doors on both of them (you think you have a lot of spices, haha), so when we open the doors, you are hit by a wave of spice odors. Wonderful! (Also, we live in California, so if we had our spice shelves like yours, any earthquake would spill them all over the place.) We also did the same thing in my office when we went through a remodel. Our contractor noticed that the original construction did not provide a proper support for the 2nd floor (house built in 1915). So, he put up a series of paired 2 x 6 (so 4 x 6), and I put in permanent bookshelves in between. Now, a whole wall is filled with books (no doors were added here). Always good to use space efficiently; congrats!
I enjoyed seeing this. I made an almost identical in wall spice rack a year ago. In my case I used clear pine boards and I varnished them instead of painting. My wife felt it was important to install horizontal metal retaining rods a couple of inches above each shelf so the spices can’t fall out on their own. (We sometimes have earthquakes here.) I used stainless steel 1/8 inch diameter welding rods which were inexpensive and yet look premium. I’m a bit OCD and since our new spice cabinet was in a main area of the kitchen I decided to install a cabinet door over the spice rack. We have Ikea kitchen cabinets and I was able to find an Ikea cabinet door that matched. Of course I ordered the door prior to making the spice rack so I could match the size to the door. An interesting caveat, the Ikea cabinet door cost more than the entire rest of the project. Ikea cabinets used to be quite inexpensive. Not any more. Anyway we are very happy with the end result.
Nice! I did that qt my last house except it involved ru Ning prefabparticle boa4d unitsthrough a jobsite saw and shoving it in between the studs. Yours is much more upscale.
My mother taught me how to paint when I was 8. Then she actually had me paint the Wedgewood Blue chair rails in her white bedroom because I was steadier than she was! I would estimate that I've painted at least 75 rooms in my life. Wish I had one of those spice racks, you did a nice job.
Looks great - just don’t put a wall hangar on the other side of the wall in the hallway….. Next on The Stall pod cast - how Mark decides what rub to use when
Glad to see I am not the only one with the spice hoarding problem. I just had to explain to my wife why I have 3 kinds of paprika. I guess I should start building this.
You'd have to explain that to me too, since you're missing one! There's Spanish paprika, smoked Spanish paprika, Hungarian paprika, and hot Hungarian paprika. Which one are you missing?
My kitchen (120 year old house) had an iron board cabinet built between two wall studs. I removed the ironing board and turned it into a spice cabinet.
Awesome work, Marc! 😃 But you know what... After starting to learn to cook you realize most seasonings are just mixtures of other seasonings. But it's definitely a good idea to have them all at your disposal! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Love this idea... I may borrow it for a later reno here. One question: I noticed when you were ripping on the bandsaw that you were pulling the material at the end (totally logical), but elevating / angling it up off the saw table... and I understand the physics of this and how that's not unsafe, but was wondering if that's a Secret Woodworker Trick, or just a Marc-ism...?
YES, I LOVE THE KIDS OUT IN THE SHOP, and not playing some computer game. This is something they will take with them the rest of there life's. Nothing like being self sufficient. Even if they hire out a job they have some idea what is being done or should be done. Plus it builds a good bond. " she has on headphones so she doesn't have to listen to any of his well you know." Safety glasses!
Mmm…maple. My favourite. I appreciate the “So I Married An Axe Murderer” reference. My friends and I used to quote this movie all the damn time. We’re Gen-X so I guess we’re kinda obligated.
I saw the Voodoo and Honey Hog in that collection (great choices), but you're missing Killer Hogs. Hopefully you watch Malcom smoking some meat on How to BBQ Right. He's practically a neighbor over near Memphis, and is a master of all things smoked.
Painted maple? Oh well. For the back painted or not, i would go buy a sheet of luan floor underlayment for the back and just surface nail it to the back. You can search in the pile at the big box store and find some with a nice wood grain pattern that would look good with a clear or stained woodgrain and its cheap. Your daughters right noting is perfect, and imperfections my dad always said give a project a hand made feel. I actually was thinking about doing a project like that, i have a spot thats perfect for it, but ductwork for the second story is right behind it, and spices last longer if they are not exposed to heat, like by the oven. So mine would need insulation behind it. Time to teach them kids how to do some woodworking, i was about your daughters age when my dad was building boats in the basement. I'm going on 64 now. My 40 year old kids i would not trust with power tools, i didn't have a woodworking shop until they moved out.

Thanks for fixing that site -- I was getting 404's on it some weeks ago...
Fancy man over here, I don’t have any plywood but I have some maple lying around. I’m kidding it looks great.
Love seeing the kids in the shop having a good time. Ava has gotten big, too!

Such a smart helpers you have. Wise words about everything not having to be perfect 😊
Working in the shop, and hanging with the youngins at the same time,... Cool
And using unused space,.. very clever
Thanks!
Thank you!

This was amazing work again and I love watching u and u do amazing work and u are a great woodworker always!!
Marc taking a hand plane to a 2x4??? 😂. Never thought I’d see the day

Just needed to say. Great vid as always. Your daughter is a cutie. Also, loved the Larry David allusion. Big fan of you both. Peace and Happy Trails.
I'm going to need a tier list for your spices. To three would be good. I over indulge in spices myself.
Love this idea, came out very nice. Now to convince my husband we can do this.
If it’s already full, maybe you should make one or two more. Look forward to next video.
What a cool idea. I will use this in my pantry on one side and on the other side for cans. I’ll probably use a 1/4” ply on the back. Great job!!!
Great video, the kids are getting so big..... and so much like Dad :-)

Dancing kids are best part!!!! LOLLOLOLOL
I got a distinct Tom Sawyer vibe when you got Ava to paint the wall. Now she's having all the fun...

Inspiring!! Thanks for this!

This is also good behind a bathroom door for toiletries.
This is a pretty awesome idea.... thank you, I might try it!!!
Core memory unlocked...
Thanks for reminding me why grandparenthood is better than parenting. Oh, and the woodworking is great, too.
Grandkids, children you can give back. 😊
@@pitsnipe5559 Grandkids, children you can load up with sugar and give back.
Ava is ahead of the game with knowing and talking about milk paint!
Do you apply those spices with the grain of the meat? You don’t want to make meat mad by rubbing it the wrong way!
Definitely your kids.😇

Ava has potential!!! Nice job.
My kitchen (120 year old house) had an iron board cabinet built between two wall studs. I removed the ironing board and turned it into a spice cabinet.
Great idea. Could have added wainscoting panel to the drywall to make it look even better and protect the drywall.
NICE !!
Lovin' the dog!
Awesome work, Marc! 😃
But you know what... After starting to learn to cook you realize most seasonings are just mixtures of other seasonings. But it's definitely a good idea to have them all at your disposal!

My goal is to try as many as I can, pick some favorites, and then try to recreate them on my own.
@@woodwhisperer Sweet! 😃
Great video
I guess I've been watching too much Cremona- I was waiting for you to scribe the frame to the wall! lolol
Love your work. I noticed that you lifted the maple every time you were pulling the wood through the bandsaw. Is there a particular reason?
WOW...that's a lot of spices 😀
I need one of these!!!
I cannot believe you aren’t organizing by brand! 😂
Love it!

Mark doesn't have a bbq problem. He has a spice problem. I wish I had a spot to do that!
Where can I buy a sander hose as flexible as that one?
I've done that a year but I used the studs and just added brackets so I didn't have to use all materials

cute little whippersnappers
Great rack! I think I would have put a plywood back instead of messing with the drywall…or in your case maybe a solid wood tongue and groove backing 😀
Paint you can drink? Like milk paint?
Love me some Potato Slayer!
I’m not even that huge of a potato fan but I put that stuff on a baked potato the other day and it was amazing!
The spicy honey hog is my family’s favorite.
"Everything doesn't need to be perfect"
how do you get the movie clip for your video?
Those kids!
Ava might be onto something with that drinkable paint and edible walls.
nice
Do you use 16g or 18g brad nails?
18 ga

Hey Mark,
You should try some "Perini Ranch" rub, if you do any smoking. I found it the perfect rub for both beef and pork.
Rick
One, you need some Kosmos BBQ rub. Two, I think Matt Cremona would be jealous since his project is nowhere near done.
In Turkish we say "keyif pezevengi" , nice work and good collection

The advantages of the cardboard walls in the US I suppose, this would be next to impossible with my concrete walls ;)

If you haven't tried Meat Church's Holy Cow yet- I highly recommend!
