  • Adam, Bryant, & Steve join the podcast this week after our recent shoot down in Alabama. We spent 6 days chasing smallmouth around Northern Alabama & Middle Tennessee. In doing so, we took a night to talk through why we all have gravitated towards smallmouth fishing. We share some of our top secrets for finding smallmouth streams and then how to actually target them. Gear also comes up in the discussion and we all share our go-to setups when it comes to smallmouth fishing. It's an action-packed episode that will surely provide you with some insightful information on smallmouth so you can get out and start targeting them yourself. We go on a few minor tangents (like any podcast), but they all land on points that we hope you guys can learn from and apply to your fishing game. If you've been looking for a place to start learning about smallmouth, this is where you need to be. Enjoy, my friends!

    46:00 You guys are dead on about the rewarding feeling of finding the river and the fish on your own. I found this random ass creek up near me and caught my first 18" brown on a dry. I had never caught a trout over 10, or a trout on a dry, but I did that shit on my own. That fish still gives me a rush thinking about it.

      F ya f ya. Cooking that bad boy on the side of a mountain with a fresh green squash from your own garden. 2020 was epic. Never be another summer like it. Most of the sheep stayed home making traffic a gem. No rangers in the parks. Epic. No words.

    I fish poppers to large mouth feeding like rising trout on my local pond... it couldn't be more fun. I live outside of NYC in the suburbs Westchester County.

      Haha we were just dissing the one spot we went to. We didn’t get to fish any of the JUICE so we know it’s there’s some bad ass spots down there. Glad you enjoyed the episode, though!

    Come to the upper peninsula of Michigan! To answer Steve’s question, the up hasn’t been taken over by Wisconsin, because those cheeseheads suck! But if you want some lots of public land, with lots of rivers hit the up! Adam might have to wade a little more thou!

      Don't even have to go that far. Flint River is best smallmouth fishery in the State. The water fiasco gave it a bad rap but truly #itsnottheriver

    Hey if you boys are trying to get on some rock bass you can come to NH, there’s a pandemic in NH and they’re decimating the game fish populations

    Another suggestion on finding fishy water - the local game and fish dept is usually pretty good at giving information about which bodies of water hold which fish.

    I’m having a hard time deciding on sink tip line. I wanna go with airflo but do I go Streamer Max Short or SuperFlo Sink Tip and then within those, there’s Slow, Mid & Fast densities to choose and then 3,6 or 12ft tip to choose. I fish 1’-6’ deep rivers. Any help fine tuning my selection would be appreciated.

    I loved the discussion of trout fishing vs smallmouth bass fishing. Being a native Floridian I had a different experience. I got so much crap for throwing a 4 or 5 wt in any canal I could find because if you weren't throwing a 10 wt for snook or tarpon you were crazy. I feel sorry for those that have never fought a big Mayan cichlid on a 5wt. You guys should do a short bus trip down here. I'll show you some of my favorite spots for sure.

    I found and catch smallies on the fly in the sierra mountains in a couple lakes . These lakes are at around 6500 ft. elevations they even freeze over in the winters for ice skating etc. I also use my canoe 🛶 alot in my travels from Texas , Idaho and California and it's real easy to stand up in to cast ....it's a 16 footer ....but yea for sure small mouth are the real athletes of the fresh water world 🌎. Thanks for the vids and pod cast ....cheers 🍺

    Awesome episode. As someone who was raised fishing bass before trout, this is great. Thoughts on bass fishing with floating line? What use cases is it best for and what are the best ways to make up for not having a sink tip outside of fly weight?

    • @ryank5115
      @ryank5115 3 роки тому +1

      Floating line is great for poppers and shallow streamers mid summer. I have put weight and poly leaders on floating lines to "get down" but I feel like the floating line causes the fly to surface on retrieve or the swing. If $ is issue, check out bozan fly for cheap sink tips.
