    I had no issue with the Yaks, and don't get the whole "They smashed everything that wasn't exactly how they wanted it" line, because.. that isn't what they were doing. It wasn't things not being how they wanted it to be, it was whenever the ponies tried to tell them something was something it wasn't. They weren't getting pissed because the food wasn't 'their' food, it was because the ponies told them it was just like their food, but wasn't. Same for every other time they raged. It was when they were told something was one thing, but it was not.
    Look at Spike's piano issue. It wasn't 'their' music, it wasn't anything 'Yakish" and they loved it. Right up until they found out it was fake, then they got mad. It wasn't even that it was a player piano, it was that it was one, but Spike tried to claim it was his own talent that made the music. The Yaks are more a very very literal minded group that seem to take great offense to any type o lying or misleading. That was the cause of the war deceleration. The ponies were trying to be lying deceivers in their mind. Not that they weren't perfect. They had no issue with anything Pinkie did at her party, because she didn't try to make it tell them it would be just like home.
    My biggest issue is pinkie entire trip make no damn sense and is outright impossible, even for Pinkie. Dodge Junction is in the complete opposite direction from Ponyvill as the Empire. So why is the train going through there? The whole trip could not have taken place in that short a time, coupled with the whole band bit, a sled going THAT far backwards? it just... it isn't just playing with the laws of physics, it's out right saying "Fuck you consistency I'm doing what ever the hell I want, who cares if it makes any sense, it's what I want!" which is fucking bullshit.
    Nothing about that segment made any sense, again even for Pinkie Pie. It only works, if you assume it was a stressed induced hallucination she was having while freaking out over the party.

      +SEGASister I think it's a good episode, but Voice did bring up a few interesting things which I overlooked in my review of the episode. It is rushed in the middle and the animation did have to pick up the slack for the pacing. The bulls were funny, but got annoying, and kinda boring;after the second time they destroyed stuff. And the moral does suffer from the pacing. But I think this episode might have the best portrayal of Pinkie we've seen in the series. It comes close to beating her portrayal in Pinkie Pride, but not by much. The stuff she went through for the yacks proves this exceptionally. I'm actually glad Voice pointed out the flaws in this episode, it helps me see this episode with a clearer view, so I guess my original verdict of 8/10 has to be retracted to a 7/10. Oh well.

    I wouldn't call the episode "bad"; though I do agree that the yak's destructive behavior DID get annoying after a while. But here's the thing: don't they seem at least a bit like real life politicians? Really, I've seen other countries go to war over less than this! ....I admit I don't know many, but I'm sure John Oliver can name a few examples. But I digress. And even then, at least the yaks come out of this satisfied and/or grateful; which is more than I can say for such ungrateful guests as, say, Prince Blueblood or the ever monstrous Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon.

    This was a pretty good episode, in my opinion. The yaks are a neat, interesting new group of characters. I like a parallel my friend +Hub Hikari made. He said he sees the Yak's over the top reactions to everything not being like at home, to MLP fans like Cuddlepug, who pretty much think every episode of MLP after Season 1 is pretty much garbage, only because they had no involvement from their lord and savior, Lauren Faust. It definitely helped make the Yaks gag of smashing everything because it isn't like home a bit less... boring, for lack of a better term. I find it interesting to see an episode focus on Twilight's role as the Princess of Friendship from a diplomatic standpoint: trying to become friends with another nation to be on good terms with them. Although, considering the last time we had a war, it was fought with pies, so it's hard for me to feel tense at the Yaks declaring war. I blame Season 1 Dave Polsky. (His earliest episodes were funny, but really lacking in the moral and story department.) Back on a positive not, though, I also really like seeing another side to Pinkie's character. I always thought Pinkie in her solo episodes was pretty good overall, but when she's mainly cast as the comic relief in episodes that don't focus on her, I find her to be a hit or miss character for the most part. There's been more hits than misses, though, so she's not a terrible comic relief character as a whole, in my opinion. Back to what I was saying though, seeing Pinkie kinda being all nervous and "cuckoo" like Twilight is a very interesting change of pace from Pinkie's usual over the top optimism. Though, I'm happy to say yet again, that when Pinkie does get over the top, it's great to see and leads to some great laughs. In fact, I'd say this is a pretty funny episode overall. Much more consistently entertaining than last week's episode, not to mention a better first time effort, also written by a Johnny Test writer. My favorite parts are Twilight's apparent fear of quesadillas, the Beatles reference, and all of the great facial expressions from both Twilight and Pinkie. Also, Pinkie having a Party Cave makes WAY too much damn sense. And getting to see Cherry Jubilee again was a nice surprise. :)
    I also thought the moral was pretty good. When you think about it, if Pinkie had just brought something back from Yak Yakistan, we pretty much would have gotten a longer version of the conflict from Castle Sweet Castle. The moral here was about how to make someone feel at home, in a metaphorical sense, and that's one that, while not great for adults, is a nice lesson for the younger viewers.
    If I had to complain about anything else, it'd be that, and this just a complaint for me personally, trying to convince me that Pinkie sled ALL THE WAY DOWN FROM YAK YAKISTAN, THROUGH APPLEOOSA AND MANEHATTAN, ALL THE WAY BACK TO PONYVILLE is *really* stretching it for me, in terms of cartoon logic. I know it's Pinkie Pie, and I shouldn't question it, but still... Then again, I keep forgetting that this is a show about talking ponies, so if my biggest complaint in terms of logic is the impossibility of sledding down for miles and miles, this show must be doing something right. :P
    Overall, while not a great episode, it's a nice fun little Pinkie Pie episode, and I can totally get down with that.

      +thepinkbrigade woah, man. It's just an episode of the show, it's not like you're eyes are bleeding. I'm also a big Pinkie Pie fan (by the way, I think her zaniness in this episode was written very well). Heck, I'm in the minority of people who think her performance in Filly Vanilly were hilarious.
      Anyway, I can see what Pinkie had good intentions in "Over A Barrel" and she's one of the only few characters who suffers from real physical pain, so I'm not really bothered by her actions, with AJ and RD you're can actually go either way, I'm not bothered by the rest of mane6 at all, and both sides were justified alright. Not a fantastic level of justification, just... "Club Spongebob" level of justification (yeah, even more divisive episode). Anyway, I can see where you're coming from and totally respect that, but, please, don't be so radical about things

    Fair enough, but personally I loved this episode. I can excuse a substandard plot if you can deliver me some amazing humor, which is why Party of One is in my top 10. Definitely not favorite episode of Season 5, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

    • @crazyluigi6664
      @crazyluigi6664 9 років тому

      +Alex Guenther Yeah, that's why I personally can't stand episodes like Spike At Your Service, Trade Ya!, or especially Princess Spike since not only were the plots very substandard to where I could easily find a few TV shows that already did this kind of plot beforehand (Trade Ya!'s plot already being covered with shows like Ed, Edd n' Eddy and Phineas & Ferb, Spike At Your Service... well I think TheMysteriousMrEnter's review on that explained it *way better* than I ever could, and Princess Spike having a combination of something like Tom & Jerry or the Kids Next Door where the protagonist is trying to make sure they have the secondary character gets a good night's sleep and something like even Family Guy of all things where a main character's out of commission for something and the replacement has to take over from there until further notice), but they also really didn't have enough good comedy at all to offset such boring setups that were already shown plenty of other times beforehand. With Party Pooped, I can at least see they were trying something with a bit more substance at hand, and adding that with some good comedy certainly made it a worthwhile episode for me to watch. (Certainly much more worthwhile than *those episodes* were at least.)

    I don't know if you know this but there is a reason why the yaks were so upset with everything they tried, its because the ponies themselves kept comparing it to the things the yaks are used to in their homeland so of course they expect it to be up to their standards.

  • @GBD1000

    It did feel like scenes were missing. In fact, after this episode aired my first thought was "this should have been a two parter". They would have had more time to make the story interesting, Pinlie's journey would have actually meant something rather than feeling like a long waste of time, and it already seemed like there were two different B plots going on anyway (trying to appease the Yaks and finding Pinkie's closet).
    I think they might have intebded this to be a two parter but Hasbro decided to shove their noses again for whatever reason (just like with MMC). Real shame, this could have been amazing as a two parter if they did it right.

    • @gutsmasterson2488
      @gutsmasterson2488 9 років тому +1

      You know actually brings up an interesting point, what if they were able to convince Hasbro to make this as a two-parter and in return they can promote a different playset for Pinkie's Party cave

  • @nohabody

    I don't think the Yaks were that bad. To me it seemed the only perfection that Yaks look for is limited to their own culture. When the ponies stopped trying to replicate Yakyakistan, they didn't complain about anything. Prior to that the ponies kept insisting on how everything was "just like Yakyakistan" and when it inevitably wasn't it probably felt like an insult, like they were mocking them. They also seem to hate deception so Spike's performance on top of all the failed Yakyakistan attempts is probably what ticked them off enough to declare war.

  • @GamermanZendrelax
    @GamermanZendrelax 9 років тому +1

    I'm probably not the first person to say this, and I probably won't be the last, but I have to disagree with how you said the Yaks as "...destroy[ing] everything if everything isn't perfect and to their specific standards." Throughout the episode, the characters in Ponyville introduce everything by saying how much it'll be just like what the Yaks are used to in Yakyakistan. To put that another way, the ponies are trying to pass off shoddy knock-offs as genuine Yak culture-except for the piano, but that was still deceitful on the part of the Equestrian characters, and very disrespectful. We know that the ponies only had the best of intentions-to try and make the Yaks feel at home-but I'm sure we've all heard what they say about the road to hell. Now, none of this doesn't justifies how the Yaks just wrecked everything in sight when they got angry, but it's a far more understandable reason to be angry than "things were not exactly how I wanted them." And, while I do agree with you as to how Pinkie's journey had very little to do with the moral, the "filler" (which, admittedly, did drag on quite a bit) it tied in very nicely to what was going on in Ponyville-instead of trying and failing to simulate what it's like in Yakyakistan, the ponies should have showed the Yak's what makes Equestria a great place. Coincidentally, this means it isn't technically filler, just poorly paced.

    Actually, it makes perfect sense for Twilight to befriend the yaks no matter what. It's her first major solo royal duty and Celestia is going to check on her.
    I just think if they put in that the mane 6 got angry at the yaks and Twilight brought that up it would have been really good.

    This episode actually gave an explanation on why Pinkie was such a failure in Over A Barrel and why she was so mean in Filli Vanilli, because she's actually bad at improvising and when she's forced to do so there's a high chance of her failing miserably.

Also, I respect your opinion on the Pinkie x Twilight ship, but I don't see those two together. It has been shown on multiple occasions, that Twilight can find Pinkie annoying or irritating. I just can't see their relationship as lovers, I just see them as friends.

    I saw this episode as reference to terrorism. I mean, Yakyakistan? Obviously a parody of Afghanistan. Making, "Not perfect! Yaks destroy!" translate to "For Allah! It does seem like the "bad episode" of this first half of the season can't be agreed on. Although, in my opinion, the only bad one is Tanks for the Memories. Though most others would put Princess Spike and Appleoosa's Most Wanted over it. (neither of which I hate) However, there's also the negativity towards this episode and other smaller candidates that only have a little bitterness or hate. For me, these are the top 3 worst:
    3: Appleoosa's Most Wanted. Not a bad episode, seeing that there are positives to it, I just wish that it wasn't so goddamn bland.
    2: Princess Spike. Man, am I mixed on this episode. It would take too long to go into detail over my thoughts on it, positive and negative, so I'll just say that's it's on the border of being bad, but just misses it by a little bit.
    1. Tanks for the Memories. I hate everything about this episode. Characters, humor, stages of grief, death metaphor, moral, I think it all sucks. I won't say more, since I've stressed my dislike for this episode enough at many places.

    This is the episode that I am the most loath to re-watch. Granted I almost never re-watch episodes anyway, but still. I wouldn't call it the worst episode this season (that would be Slice of Life), but this is pretty darn close. Although I did laugh at just how petty the yaks were ("This not yak snow!" *rage*). As for Pinkie, I didn't think she was all that funny. I think I've grown numb to her humor over the past few years. Not even her early season antics make me laugh anymore, with only a few exceptions.

    'it's hard for me to say what I think of this episode because it's sort of like an "Eh?". I loved Pinkie's moments and some of the freak outs but I think it would have been better if the Yaks were not so destructive and the consequence for failing wasn't war.
    The whole time I kept thinking "War? WTF? Celestia and Luna control the sun and moon. Why would you want to start war with people who can either shroud you in darkness or toast you with the sun?" So that made the conflict seem pretty unimportant to me. XD
    Maybe it could just be a sort of trading thing where the ponies need something from the Yaks or they just want to build up their allies in case something crazy happens and that's why Twilight needed to impress them so bad.

    This is the first episode that I really don't like or care in this season. No kidding when i say that this just shows season 5 worst before princess spike came in and took that title. The only think I like is the explanation of pinkie and how she remembers everyone like and dislike which is amazing. Except for that joke about twilight afraid of a certain food as that is just so stupid even for this show to pull.

      @AnimeWolfgamer If I may borrow this little exchange from The Simpsons episode, Fear of Flying:
      * Marge: Everyone has a fear of something.
      * Homer: Not everyone.
      * Marge: Sock puppets!
      * Homer: Where!? Where!? Ahhh!!!

      Gregory Cassella Let me clarified it. I get what your saying but however the Simpson is a comedy and while that joke is meh at best, it kinda works when we know how homer is. Twilight sparkle I get what they are doing but however it was so left field that I wonder if they just think of a random joke instead of one that fits her more.

      @AnimeWolfgamer Okay, how about this then? I don't know if you've ever watched Littlest Pet Shop, but one of the characters named Russell has a fear of marshmallows.

      Gregory Cassella I only watch one season which I hope to get back too. Don't remember that being in season 1 or 2

    Princess Spike was much worse than this episode.

      +TheEcthudan Agreed. That episode is one of the worst of the entire series, let alone this season.

      +Alisha Dee I think both those episodes have their own serious flaws that keeps them from being completely enjoyable. Although I will admit...at least Party Pooped didn't make me wanna bang my head against the table.

      I actually found princess Spike to be a pretty good episode for Spike episode standard

      Yes, but it could have been better [and that makes it more cringing to watch]. All they had to do was remove the 'Spike abusing his powers' scene from Act 2, or at least not make him look so "Secret of My Excess" about it. However, it was nice to see some form of world building (same with Party Pooped).

      Honeytongue Mamao honestly, his power hungry moment wasn't that bad. The worse he asked for was a painting of himself. Plus, he did learned his lesson about having power going to his head.
