I don't know about all this, it's way more complicated than it need be. We're off grid for years, fully solar, a septic system and a well. That's all you need. I love to BBQ so I may buy a tank of Butane every 6 months (like $25) and I run my truck on diesel, I'm told it will burn recycled vegetable oil but I'd still have to pay for it. The efficiency of solar panels is currently not feasible for vehicles to use as a sole source of power. With portable solar panels and a battery bank (think Jackery, GoalZero, or Ecoflow), you can add like 3-5 miles of range per day for a Tesla. In winter, it just prevents the battery from draining to keep itself warm.
The Lavario is just the classic 5 gallon bucket washer with extra steps. Get two 5 gallon buckets, one lid, and a clean, new toilet plunger. Drill a hole in the middle of the lid that has the same diameter as the plunger handle. Drill 1/2 inch holes in the plunger so water can pass through, and you can wash laundry the same way an old fashioned butter churn works. The second bucket is something I added to my system. It's peppered with holes, so I can dump the laundry in it, and use the other bucket like a plunger to squeeze the extra water out of the laundry before rinsing, and again before hanging them to dry. Works with Lowe's or Home Depot, or any other typical buckets you can find at hardware stores, and costs under $20 to make if you have a drill already. I've used this system when my washer broke, as well as a few times in extended power outages. The system isn't pretty, but works great, and if you have kids, they'll fight to take turns washing the laundry. The wash bucket can be used for other cleaning when not used for laundry, and the holey one can be a trash can, so for camping, they're awesome.
There are better and cheaper water systems than Berkey. I use one called Zerowater. Not only is it a LOT cheaper, but it does a much better purification job. Another try at describing my "Synergy System ".## Building a Dual IBC Biodigester Methane Gas and Organic Fertilizer Production System ### Introduction As concerns about sustainability and renewable energy grow, many households are exploring ways to reduce their carbon footprint and reliance on traditional energy sources. One effective method is to build a dual Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) biodigester system. This setup can produce methane gas for household appliances and organic fertilizer for gardening, using waste materials. Additionally, a three-filter scrubber system and a storage setup ensure the gas is clean and usable. This essay outlines the steps and components required to build and utilize such a system. ### Components and Materials 1. **IBC Tanks**: Two Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) will serve as the primary digester tanks. 2. **Organic Waste**: Kitchen scraps, manure, and other organic materials. 3. **Three-Filter Scrubber System**: - **Water Filter**: To remove soluble impurities. - **Cat Litter Filter**: To absorb ammonia and other impurities. - **Steel Wool Filter**: To remove hydrogen sulfide. 4. **Evaporator Compressor**: To compress and evaporate the gas for storage. 5. **Storage Tank**: To store the compressed gas. 6. **Gas Regulator**: To regulate the flow of gas to household appliances. 7. **Piping and Valves**: For connecting the system components. 8. **Gas Collection Bag**: For initial gas storage. 9. **Pump**: To facilitate the movement of gas and liquid. ### Building the Biodigester System 1. **Preparing the IBC Tanks**: - Clean the IBC tanks thoroughly to remove any residues. - Cut an opening on the top of each tank for adding organic waste and water. - Install a gas outlet valve on the top and a slurry outlet at the bottom of each tank. 2. **Creating the Inlet and Outlet System**: - Connect a pipe to the top opening of the first tank for feeding organic waste. - Connect another pipe to the bottom slurry outlet, leading to a secondary tank or compost area for collecting the digested material. 3. **Setting Up the Gas Collection**: - Attach a gas collection bag to the gas outlet valve on the top of the first tank. - Connect the gas collection bag to the three-filter scrubber system. ### Three-Filter Scrubber System 1. **Water Filter**: - Create a water filter by passing the gas through a water column to dissolve and remove soluble impurities. 2. **Cat Litter Filter**: - Pass the gas through a container filled with cat litter, which will absorb ammonia and other impurities. 3. **Steel Wool Filter**: - The final stage involves passing the gas through a steel wool filter to remove hydrogen sulfide, ensuring the gas is clean and odorless. ### Compressing and Storing the Gas 1. **Evaporator Compressor**: - Use the evaporator compressor to compress the cleaned gas. This step ensures the gas is stored efficiently and reduces the storage space required. 2. **Storage Tank and Regulator**: - Store the compressed gas in a suitable storage tank. - Attach a gas regulator to the storage tank to control the flow of gas to household appliances, ensuring safety and efficiency. ### Utilizing the System 1. **Feeding the Biodigester**: - Regularly add organic waste to the first IBC tank through the inlet pipe. Maintain a balanced mixture of carbon-rich and nitrogen-rich materials for optimal digestion. - Ensure the tank is filled with enough water to create an anaerobic environment. 2. **Monitoring and Maintenance**: - Regularly check the gas production and the condition of the filters. Replace the cat litter and steel wool as needed to maintain the efficiency of the scrubber system. - Periodically remove the digested slurry from the bottom outlet of the first tank and transfer it to the secondary tank or compost area. 3. **Using the Gas and Fertilizer**: - Use the regulated gas to power household appliances such as stoves and heaters. - Utilize the digested slurry as organic fertilizer for gardens and crops, enriching the soil and promoting sustainable agriculture. ### Conclusion Building a dual IBC biodigester system with a three-filter scrubber, evaporator compressor, and storage tank is an effective way to produce renewable methane gas and organic fertilizer. This system not only helps in managing organic waste but also provides a sustainable source of energy for household use. By following the outlined steps and maintaining the system properly, households can significantly reduce their environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.

- Install a gas outlet valve on the top and a slurry outlet at the bottom of each tank.
2. **Creating the Inlet and Outlet System**:
- Connect a pipe to the top opening of the first tank for feeding organic waste.
- Connect another pipe to the bottom slurry outlet, leading to a secondary tank or compost area for collecting the digested material.
3. **Setting Up the Gas Collection**:
- Attach a gas collection bag to the gas outlet valve on the top of the first tank.
- Connect the gas collection bag to the three-filter scrubber system.
### Three-Filter Scrubber System
1. **Water Filter**:
- Create a water filter by passing the gas through a water column to dissolve and remove soluble impurities.
2. **Cat Litter Filter**:
- Pass the gas through a container filled with cat litter, which will absorb ammonia and other impurities.
3. **Steel Wool Filter**:
- The final stage involves passing the gas through a steel wool filter to remove hydrogen sulfide, ensuring the gas is clean and odorless.
### Compressing and Storing the Gas
1. **Evaporator Compressor**:
- Use the evaporator compressor to compress the cleaned gas. This step ensures the gas is stored efficiently and reduces the storage space required.
2. **Storage Tank and Regulator**:
- Store the compressed gas in a suitable storage tank.
- Attach a gas regulator to the storage tank to control the flow of gas to household appliances, ensuring safety and efficiency.
### Utilizing the System
1. **Feeding the Biodigester**:
- Regularly add organic waste to the first IBC tank through the inlet pipe. Maintain a balanced mixture of carbon-rich and nitrogen-rich materials for optimal digestion.
- Ensure the tank is filled with enough water to create an anaerobic environment.
2. **Monitoring and Maintenance**:
- Regularly check the gas production and the condition of the filters. Replace the cat litter and steel wool as needed to maintain the efficiency of the scrubber system.
- Periodically remove the digested slurry from the bottom outlet of the first tank and transfer it to the secondary tank or compost area.
3. **Using the Gas and Fertilizer**:
- Use the regulated gas to power household appliances such as stoves and heaters.
- Utilize the digested slurry as organic fertilizer for gardens and crops, enriching the soil and promoting sustainable agriculture.
### Conclusion
Building a dual IBC biodigester system with a three-filter scrubber, evaporator compressor, and storage tank is an effective way to produce renewable methane gas and organic fertilizer. This system not only helps in managing organic waste but also provides a sustainable source of energy for household use. By following the outlined steps and maintaining the system properly, households can significantly reduce their environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.
