Keep sanding it and then clear it. Looks great.

Sand it till orange peel is pretty level and add rust where you think it needs it.. Build the car and SMILE 😁👍🏻🇺🇲

    I use purple power sparky

Recommend you try supper clean or purple power for stripping they’re a little stronger than La awesome. Per gallon about the same price. Worth a try.

I’m with your wife sand it weather it . Just go with it. You’re good at that. That’s why I watch. I got about a100 well maybe more new kits . But have more fun stripping and building old builds I buy on line and at shows. I love Rusty’s , rat rods , and wrecks. They’re just fun.

I scratch built a 1970 Chevelle in 1/12th scale that has the engine pulled apart showing the lifter valley and head gaskets and much more on my UA-cam channel right now I'm working on my scratch built 69 pro street Nova

I say keep going with it. It'll be unique and I don't think the roof is too worn. Do the same in other places. It just looks super dirt worn and ground/grown in. lol

I would strip it down in purple power and just start over again. I know you will do a great job restoring this one Brian.

I would leave it. It looks like an old backyard paint job that's been fading away over the years. Just gotta add the rust and grime.

Strip/sand all new coatings. Then use 2k primer (like auto bodyshop) only use isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) to thinn primer out. This will create an isolation coat and prevent the old paint from reacting with the new coatings. Spray can paint dryea when the resucer evaporates from the paint. When you apply new paint, the new reducer melts the old paint, hence the cracking/crumbling reactions. This is known issue in the autobody industry. Good luck👍

Engines are my favorite part of a build I usually get to painting the body and it goes back in the box
I have a couple of those 1/24 Chevelles that are old junk builds ups

I always put my screwed up car bodies in brake fluid to remove paint. It even works on some lacquer paints. Best of luck. Either way, it's going to be cool. I would just sand it all to look like the roof.

I recently stripped one that had Testors Wet Look over Tamiya metallic. The only thing that would touch it was 90%IPA and HEAVY scrubbing. Wore out an old toothbrush and used about a pint of IPA.

Sand the body down in water after that do a candy color i like the color you have on the car spray it again. but before it dries take some saran wrap apply it to the paint job then pull off quickly hopefully you can get a new custom candy paint job on your ride good luck looking forward to seeing your results soon 😀👍🥁

Whenever I have this issue on re-builders, and its often due to not knowing what type of industrial dye they used originally, I get $ store oven cleaner. It will come off. Then start over. It would frustrate a normal man. However, after I get pussed off and put it back in the stash a couple times, it doesn't seem to bother me. God bless

Hilarious! Jay Z did it too. lmao. EZ Off Oven Cleaner strips paint for me. *** You gotta strip it ..again. Paint again. - If that fails...weather it out. Hey its good to see others have paint problems too.

Spray it red then immediately stick it completely in alcohol for 24 hrs then scrub with brush. If that doesn't work buy another kit or turn it into a ratrod.

No. I do a little of both. I'm just not a interior guy or motor guy if I try to do something nice. I'm mostly into the crap look 🤪
