    Great short documentary and status report - with necessary clarifications - on the Cheetah @ Kuno on the second anniversary of their reintroduction. Great to see the cubs so big and healthy. Hearty congratulations to all involved with the project. Look forward to more such short documentaries. Thanks!

      Cheetah can't be in all India forests or plains as human intervention. Will cause issues. Further if cheetah shares it's area with lions .tigers. leopards jaguars puma lynx. Caracal snow leopard or clouded leopard. Panther etc then it's dead. Since in Africa itself as lion population is growing much day by day cheetah population is decreasing day by day as a result. Cheetah was once in world in 35000 nos. Now hardly 9000 or 11000 remain. Cheetahs don't attack humans but

    I remember hearing about the project that aims to reintroduce cheetahs in the Indian landscape with some specimens from South Africa and Namibia. During that time, I was curious of how they were doing and it wasn’t too long ago when I heard about cubs being born in Kuno for the very first time in 7 decades. Hard to believe that it’s been 2 years since that momentous occasion. With this video, I now see that not only there are more than previously mentioned but also one of them is old enough to look after itself and make its claim in the subcontinent. Marvelous.
    I saw a video that was discussing about the Asiatic counterpart of this cat which is now residing in a preserve in Iran when they were mentioning their differences. Turns out, after taking a closer look in their DNA, they made a conclusion. Genetically speaking, both the African and Asiatic cheetah are one and the same. With this in mind, I can imagine a scenario where if they plan to continue this project, they should bring a few of the remaining population in Iran to India so that these creatures can procreate to not only increase their numbers but to increase their genetic diversity, as well. That way, their offsprings will become stronger and healthier as they adapt to this environment and little by little, the Asiatic cheetah can come back from the brink. Food for thought. Thank you for this report, Kapoor. 🙏🐆🌍

    • @RitobanBhattacharya
      @RitobanBhattacharya 2 місяці тому

      India has tried that for decades without success. Cheetah population in Iran is less than one hundred and the Iranian government isn't ready to hand over any to India. There was one opportunity in the 1970's when the then Shah of Iran had agreed due to his good relation with Indira Gandhi. But then the Iranian revolution came and things did not materialize.

    • @SorenAlba54
      @SorenAlba54 2 місяці тому +1

      @@RitobanBhattacharya Oh, I see. I suppose that if they’re that low in numbers, then they wouldn’t take any chances if one of these cats have become ill or harmed in any way. Perhaps, in the near future, when the cheetahs continue to flourish, they could reconsider this proposal with their new data and research. Just a hunch.

    • @RitobanBhattacharya
      @RitobanBhattacharya 2 місяці тому

      I just checked for updates, the situation of the 'original' Asiatic Cheetah is quite grim, with only 30-40 individuals left in the Iranian wild. Unless there's some scientific breakthrough to breed or clone them, they'll probably go extinct at some point of time.

    It feels so good! The fact that they are able to reproduce here and cubs are growing healthy is a sign that they will survive in Kuno. The place will be in the world map and a lot of tourists will flow soon. Next most important step the Ministry of Environment and Forest needs to take is to replace some of the lions from Gir National Park to few other locations.
