    Wow, this seems to be one of those rare properties where you have a large tract of land that sits below a creek. In all my years of exploring creeks, I can't say I've ever seen such a situation. Around these parts, pretty much the only thing lower than the creek is more creek further down the creek. Thanks for the video- looks like a super cool place to be!

      @@Rick-the-Swift there is a lot of fall in a short distance so the creek above is higher than the pond and then the pond empties back into the creek below the pond. Worked great until I could no longer control the leaks. Now I have a shallow frog pond.

    Very helpful! I’m dealing with a leaky outflow around a trash grate and a berm with no spillway, and seeing yours in action really helped me visualize my solution. Thanks!

    If you still want fish in the pond I recommend stocking a fish that won’t die as easily like northern pike if you have them near you

      I’ll look into that. The water level is low as it’s developed a leak. Working on getting that resolved now.

    The pond is very beautiful. I enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for sharing. How deep is the pond? Do you have any pics of the pond in the summer when it's very low? Just curious.

    • @arlingtonguy54
      @arlingtonguy54 2 роки тому +3

      It’s about 7’ on the deep end. It’s low now because the berm had developed a leak. While the soil is clay it’s also very rocky which allows leaks.

    Is the “concrete square” just a heavy piece of material used to hold your 6” pipe under water and in place or is it more complex?

    • @arlingtonguy54
      @arlingtonguy54 3 роки тому +2

      It’s a concrete collar poured in place surrounding the outlet about 6” thick. The idea is to prevent water from burrowing through the berm around the pipe.

    I basically have the same set up. Except I don’t have a creek, I have an underground natural spring that flows 27/4. I want to put a drain pipe surrounded by crushed stone on the inlet and have it drain into the bottom of a man made pond. I’m just curious if the water pressure at the bottom of the pond would cause the water do push back up the pipe and stop the flow? If you catch what I’m saying

    • @arlingtonguy54
      @arlingtonguy54 Рік тому

      Yes if I understand correctly, as the water level comes up in the pond and it matches the level in the spring it will stop flowing. As you know, water will not run uphill 😂
      The level of the spring has to be at an elevation equal to or higher than the highest level of the pond. Unless you collect the spring water and use a pump. Hope that helps.

    Why does grass in the spillway prevent it from working? In an emergency won't the overflow just flow right through the grass so long as the ground is lower than the dam wall?

    We get heavy rains where we live. Would placing a dry creek going downhill, keep a small frog pond from overflowing? I am concerned it could overflow with some of the rains we get.

    • @arlingtonguy54
      @arlingtonguy54 Рік тому +1

      I would install an overflow pipe. If the water flows over a dam in a hard rain it could erode the dam causing damage

    How do you prevent the creek pipe entrance from being clogged?

    • @arlingtonguy54
      @arlingtonguy54 2 роки тому +1

      It does get clogged occasionally. When I notice the pond level going down I go remove the debris. It’s usually some sticks and leaves.

      @@arlingtonguy54 Thanks! I would love to put a pond on our farm, there’s a seasonal stream that could provide a good amount of water but the terrain is very rocky so it may not be possible.

    Why don’t you just put a pvc cap on the inlet in creek during high water times. Take it off during normal flows

    • @arlingtonguy54
      @arlingtonguy54 Рік тому +1

      I have a reducer that I put on the inlet sometimes which decreases the volume of water. The overflow is for emergencies only.
