I watch Highway through hell and heavy rescue 401 both good Canadian shows but you folks make it look so much cooler. Damn man, I had a call similar to that back in ‘98, fatal, my sister, so I do know and have felt that lump in the throat and still nothing takes it away. I’m retired driving now, 30 + years, no accidents, no tickets, and for 25 years of my career with her riding shotgun as my angel I finally made it off the road. What you said about cars being crushed between two trucks is so true. I don't understand why people don't stop and think about that. You know the ones I'm talking about. For example the ones who cut off a semi just to get in between him and another truck while coming up to a light. Do people just love putting their lives in the hands of unknown truckers behind them? I would rather be behind a semi than in front any day.

From being a firefighter for 15 years that covered a about 15 miles of the deadliest hwy in CA and has been ranked a the deadliest in the nation often, I know exactly how you feel, from having many experiences as yours. I hate hearing my phone ring, just after the family leaves the house, travelling on that highway, or we get toned for a MVA just after the I know the family left the house....

I have pulled up on rotation calls 3 times to find out that I know 1 if not 2 of the parties involved in a accident. It about takes your breath away. Glad the amazing wrecker rick wife and l'il ones are ok. I was rolling past Ashfork last Wednesday and was gonna stop in but I didn't see any groups of employees destroying anything or standing around so I kept rolling on my way to palm springs.
Thank God we are all ok...I was a few trucks back next to the bad part of it... feeling helpless watching trucks pile up around you is lifechanging

I've done off-road trucking before in the oilfield. We never used hiway trucks. But it still never amazes me how many so salled truckers think they can drive offroad.

We were on a two lane bridge, traffic was stopped in front of us and as I come to a stop I see a huge lifted f350 coming up behind us and he’s not stopping. I’m can’t go anywhere and I’m watching this big pickup hauling ass right at the back of my car and my 7yo daughter is in the third row seat, I don’t think I have ever felt so helpless, I just kept repeating we’re gonna get hit. The guy finally notices that we’re all stopped and he hammered the brakes stopping inches from the car, when we moved again I pulled over as soon as I could and made Emily move up a seat. I’m glad your family is ok 🙏🏻

Banged up and down for the count for a month. Thankfully fully recovered now. Prayers to you and your family. 🙏🙏

Heavy episode! Going thru instant fog ain't no joke. I had an episode years ago where I met a snow plow on a single carriage road. He just left a wall of snow dust behind him, and it stayed and stayed and stayed. I think it went on for 250 meters. Me being a taxi driver at the time, I knew the road like the back of my hand. It was between the airport and town, so I had driven there a gazillion times. So I got off the gas and coasted thru the left hander and up a small hill. In the middle of this hill, the snow fog wall suddenly ended and there was a Volvo station wagon (tank) sideways right in front of me. Everything went super slow mo for me, and afterwards I was amazed at how much information and desicison-making the mind could process in such a small time. The family in the Volvo was staring at me like literal deer-in-headlight, because I was about to T-bone them. I was so close I could see their facial expressions. They were all just gaping, mouths open, eyes wide open. But my mind somehow found time to consider all options. Panic brake would not work on the snow, would result in a colission for sure. Going for the ditch was not an option, because there was none. Just a plow edge that was as high as my shoulder sitting in the car. And I could not see if there was oncoming cars from the other side because of the Volvo blocking my line of sight to the hilltop. So I worked the brakes very softly, which bought me time to confirm that there was no traffic ahead, and I just went around him. (A big thank you to whoever designed the ESP on the Mercedes-Benz W211). It seems so everyday and uneventful when I type it out like this, but let me tell you, they were helpless, and I was ramming them. Somehow, it all worked out. My subconsciousness made all the right decisions, in fractions of a second. I was not acting consciously, I was in a hightened state. All my senses focused. My mind must have registered it as a life-and-death sistuation, because I didn't have time to do diddely squat. The mind just took over the body. Bottom line: The Volvo driver had probably panic braked in the fog and lost control. So he was in the situasion he was because he stopped driving the car. I never stopped driving my car.
