I didn't even know this song by U2 so i immediately hear their song and was just surprised that Putri totally changes everything and made it Putri Araini's version which i really liked.
U2 gave their permission to Putri to sing it in her own way...

That "cracked" note was On Purpose Man. In fact, She realy put it on Highlight by not playing piano at that part. Watch carefully Her lips when She create the "un-tune" note.
When someone sing with pitch perfect, it's so hard to do the opposite.

Crack is on purpose
That cracked is a technique called froaking means breaking glass for purpose feeling hurt so deep, and thats a Difficult technique and many singers did'nt like to use this technique because if it fail it can be destroy the song, but she made it, she ended up the song so beautifully.

You'r ethe second to point out her mistake in the second last belting part. This mistake makes me adore her and her ability even more... most people would want to shy away when they crack like that... instead she opens up and goves even more power to get through it... at 17!
Her artistry in transferring this song I'm just stunned... I think this performance catapulted her into a star.
I agree with you. Her first performance was more stunning than this one. Doesn't mean that her performance tonight was bad tho. It was still awesome and magnificent. And the fact that U2 cleared the song for her, that is one plus, a big one too.
She sung the song that way on purpose to show the balance and quality of her voice. The Crack was a clear control of her voice and it was absolutely beautiful! I am so very proud of her! Go Princess Ariani! Her dress, head wrap and all was so beautiful!

See, to the untrained ear.. that sounded like a voice crack and unintentional but, I don't believe anything she does in her performances is unintentional. Cracks and breaks in the voice at the right times, add an emotional element to her singing. This isn't about us connecting to the music, it's about us connecting to her. This performance was meant to be stripped down to the bare bones where it's just her, the lyrics, and how she expresses how the song connects to her and what she feels. She is showing us her soul, laying it out there raw and real and not hidden behind lively beats. Her technical ability is there, we all know that already. Maybe you should try rewatching this performance with the mindset of it being more a showcase for her feelings, rather than just her technical skill. The judges and most of the people who watch this performance probably, appreciate the emotional beauty that we are able to feel through her singing. Everyone has the ability to feel, and her genius is in the ability to bring out those emotions in people. She's truly a prodigy when it comes to understanding that even in sadness and difficult times, there is something beautiful that can still come out of it.

I don't think it was nervousness anymore at that point but it's either she is fighting back tears or there is some slime/saliva in her throath .... that's why she "pushed" her voice to stabilized her voice ...

I am nit a musician. When I heard this audition for the first time I got the same impression as yours: that the first perfotmance was the best. However when I heard it for the second and third time I am of the opinion of the whole world: this is far better than the first performance.
