Anyone remember Sammy Miller in his Pollution Backer?
Rocket car for the 1/4 mile dragstrips.
    There were others.

Without a wind tunnel to fine tune the aero and a more controllable propulsion method such as a jet-and-rocket combi it is gonna be one brave guy and one large desert that will be needed.

Yeah I agree Mate! The American Eagle team has been fucking around over here for something like 15 years now too. I'd like to see both of them stop flapping their gums & do something real.

NZ Salt Flats Racer as you may have seen on the news, Jessi Combs just died in the American Eagle attempting a record.
The thing with trying to go go 6/7/800 miles per hour plus in a vehicle is not as easy as it sounds.
It might take 10-15-20 years to work out out all the fine details using computer-generated aerodata and specialised engineering - and that's for a reason. It ain't fucking easy.
What they're attempting to do is mind-blowing and extremely dangerous, so it's worth taking the time to get it right. But the the new LSR team (previously known as Bloodhound) from the UK is planning some test runs at the Hackspeen Pan this Fall/winter, if all goes according to plan. The new owner has just injected £30 million GBP of his own money into the project.
I would imagine that Rosco is going to try something along those lines very soon as well, seeing as his machine is not far off testing phase.
I say to all those people who are getting impatient - go try build one yourself and see how easy it is. You can't just build a car, and stick a jet or rocket on the back of it and hope it will smash the sound barrier, because the likelihood is, you will die in a big heap of Fire.
Patience, skill, and diligence. Name of the game.

So its all or nothing then? The reason Bloodhound is using a jet engine as well is so the speed can be built up over a series of runs for safety reasons with just running a rocket motor you don't exactly have a throttle as such unless of course your using a Pump to feed the Rocket. It would worry me that this guy has a death or glory attitude and he's driving a bomb on wheels at a G that in unsustainable for long periods so its going to be hit a button and hope for the best !! he has also not really got his head around the forces on the wheels at 1000mph, even Bloodhound with its huge backing has struggled to replicate the rpm's and forces involved to test the wheels and they have Rolls Royce aircraft engine division on board. The fact he built a carbon copy of Thrust2 14 years after it first ran just with a newer engine and next to no sponsors or backing makes you think he's not fully serious.

      What? That makes no sense.
