Few months back, I went there in the weekend with my girlfriend. We were amazed by how much people were there. We will definitely do more side-streets and going over there in the week next time.
The first time I went, I spent a whole day just looking round Takeshita Street and missed so much! It's always on my must-visit list and there's always something new to discover! :-)
I went there with friends on the weekend a couple months ago and there were so many people. We start walking with the crowd along the main street and before we know it we end up on the the other end of the street. Me and my friends look at each other and go "Welp...I guess that's Harajuku" and left. 😂
Ahhhhh I can't believe I'll be here in around about 2 weeks! It's craziness! Thank you for giving me an insight on what to expect. I'll probably aim for a monday or something :)
We were there last year 😀 but was so busy I didn’t see half the places in your video thanks for the insight will go back on a week day this year 😀🇬🇧🏴
It’s always the way! I missed loads of places the first time, and I spent the whole day just in Takeshita Street (you’ll see next time there’s lots more too!)
Absolutely! The first time I went, I spent the whole day on that street, but there's a whole lot more to discover. So much originality and creativity in the backstreets (and without so many crowds!).
OMG Claire's are EVERYWHERE. :p Cool video, you could set up a market stall here yourself, your designs are perfect for Harajuku. I'm not surprised you were stopped for photos.
Cakes with Faces yeah I know I live in shinjuku but my favourite AC/DC rag is one hidden up one of the side streets, I am a bit saddened though as Korean beauty brands are starting to take over Takesha street and it’s really losing its cool vibe. We tend to shop in the vintage shops on the other side of the road down we’re the funky clock is. I just feel like it’s lost so much in such a short space of time. Yet a can go to kankano broadway and it never changes. Even if I just go to see how many people drop there 12 flavour ice cream. It’s just a good place to visit
@@dottieland7061 Haha, I've never even attempted one of those ice creams! The cleaners must hate them! :-) I've noticed Harajuku's changed a lot too, it's got a lot more touristy and there are so many rainbow snacks. My theory is that tourists want to look around but not buy the clothes, but they will spend money on cute snacks. So as time goes on there are more and more snacks and less of the interesting fashion. Although I did enjoy exploring Shimokitazawa last time, that had a cool vibe too.
Please tell Phil I too stan the savory crepes. While sweet ones are tasty as well; savory is just so good. This was a good walking tutorial I can't believe I missed so much last time; though next time I go I will be more ready.
ahh.... your video makes me miss Japan and Harajuku so much! I went there in August (feels like i went there ages ago tho) and loved it so much. Harajuku was overwhelming. so overwhelming that I missed some shops I wanted to go (such as listen flavor) and actually didn't buy any clothes x"D well... I can't wait for the next time going there, exploring all the shops and eating those incredibly delishious crepes ^-^
I know that feeling!! It's definitely an overwhelming place and you never make it to everywhere on your list! There's always somewhere for next time (my Tokyo to-do list literally started the day I got back last time!) - and more flavours of crepes to try...
I am going to Japan next March/April around sakura season, and I'm wondering if you know any good places to get ita bags? Super love your videos too. Very informative!
brand-name Squishies have gotten really expensive actually - I would say that's pretty normal for the higher-priced ones. Thanks for showing us around - so fun :D
I’m laughing because you came across a stand of a character from one of my favourite animes. He’s called Rin Matsuoka. You said it looks like he’s got something in his teeth😂😂 Amazing video as always! Would love to go there someday
Lovely video! Hopefully, I can visit Takeshita street one day too! I also have a question if you don't mind answering; Are Japanese clothing sizes different to UK clothing sizes?
In general the sizes are a little smaller, especially for things like fitted dresses and skirts. However in Harajuku lots of items are one size (they call it free size), which can fit quite a range of sizes. eg the the hoodies I've bought would fit a few sizes up from me, and my friend who's a larger size has bought dresses there too.
I think in Harajuku there's a building which is a real life 'Prism Stone' from my favourite anime where there's loads of merchandice. I really wanna go to Harajuku, looks really fun.
Yes, there's a Prism Stone shop in Harajuku, in the backstreets! :-) And one in Character Street in Tokyo Station: ua-cam.com/video/YzCgTmUgzw8/v-deo.html
I'll be going again soon! :-) There's a Korea Town in Shinjuku - the Shin Okubo area north of the main Shinjuku Station has lots of Korean food, merch and Kpop stuff!
Traditionally people visit shrines and temples on New Years Day so that would be a special experience you wouldn't be able to have the rest of the year. Maybe you could find an osecchi ryori - the fancy bentos people have as a new years meal? Shops and museums might be closed, but if there's any kind of countryside adventure or walking you'd like to do, that wouldn't be affected.
No conveyor belt at Sweets Paradise sadly! That one's quite new - there should definitely be more conveyor belt restaurants - always thought tapas would be perfect! :-)
@@cakeswithfaces Aw no worries! i just looked up a video on Sweet Paradise and it still looks pretty neat! I also found out the name of the dessert conveyor belt restaurant too! it's not too far from Harajuku. The name is Cafe Ron Ron :)
@@kimchi8022 Makes me think of Harry Potter :-) My fav place for desserts is Cozy Corner - it's only a kiosk but their strawberry shortcake's delicious!

Cool video, but ignoring the great stores under Body Line building is just "sad". It's been a while (and i'm not sure about all names), but JIMSINN, YellowHouse, Phoenix and Far-Star are great stores in that basement.
Wow, if it's that crowded during the week, the weekend must be scary! :D
All the guidebooks say to go on a Sunday so that’s when the most tourists go (making it the worst day if you actually want to go shopping!)
