I loved that she was the lead. She's cute in her own way and a much more realistic choice for this plot. I hate when they say the main lead is "homely" or a part of the plot is that she's not beautiful and then they cast a classically beautiful actress. She is not too old, it's just we're not used to seeing average looking women on screen next to actresses who are already extraordinarily pretty and have had plastic surgery on top of it. Also I believe her makeup ages her because the actress looks younger in her everyday photos. She's also a great actress with good comedic timing. Her character is one of the more interesting I've seen in these c-dramas.

She actually took on the name "La Mu" because netizens called her "something so ugly it makes your eyes sore" and "La Mu" means sore eyes. She basically said "F*ck you" to them & made it her stage name to own that they thought she was so ugly. I've never seen this show, but bc of the male lead being from another show i liked, and surprisingly having good, forward-thinking casting for this female lead-- I will watch this. I'm intrigued by this drama. I like the queen's spunk. And I don't think she looks or sounds old; her voice has a beautiful lower timber. I've always thought high voiced actessess sound uncomfortably like children. And I really like how normal she looks, its extremely refreshing. I don't understand people commenting that they look "mismatched". I've met plenty of couples whose looks are very different from each other, and all you have to do is look at old paintings to see that has always been true. More importantly, why do their looks have anything to do with whether or not they can be in love???? What if the prince got horribly scarred in an accident; would that make him unworthy of love???? And just because she was born with looks that don't match a CONSTANTLY CHANGING standard of what is "beautiful", she can't be in love with a guy who happens to match that standard (for now)????? I'm sorry, but you all sound extremely shallow and judgemental.

The whole film is hilarious. I don't see the female protagonist is ugly as others said above. She is special in her own way and perfect for the king in the context personality-wise if you guys watch the whole film. This clip is just a part of the film, not the whole. You guys might wanna stress beauty should go with beauty, but comedy lies in how female lead and male lead with such yawning difference personality-wise at first and appearance-wise fall in love later. The soundtrack of the film is excellent too❤. All in all I love this film. I see the main female is not ugly at all, I love her personality and that's why I think she's beautiful and special.
The FL looks fine but her voice dubbing is not matching her . She sounds strong but as an old lady .
That's her real voice though. Women have different voices, some have high pitch some have naturally low pitch. I actually prefer her voice over the childlike / squeaky sounding dubs for actresses in cdramas.

The whole point of the clip was that the Emperor insulted her because she wasn't of the conventional beauty standards, so getting a 'prettier' actress complete defeats the point of the clip. It'd literally be introducing a character who's the school's ugliest dude but it's Chris Hemsworth, and they even put makeup on him to make him look even more attractive.
And let's be honest, do you want ONLY good looking people to be protagonist? Why can't normal or even ugly people be the star?

My comment was of my general and very personal appreciation for the choice of actors/actresses for a particular genre. As mentioned, when romance is involved, human nature makes us seek what we see as beautiful in our own eyes. My taste is personal to me and your's is also particular to you own appreciation of what beauty is in your own eyes; otherwise, we would all be fighting for the same person and that would be rather problematic, don't you think? This actress' acting skills are excellent but her face is not attractive the the vast majority of viewers and that is a fact. I would cast this type of actress for roles in criminal investigation stories, for example, because she has more of a matron look to her; not a lover. To choose her for romance is not working for me as I see no possible chemistry between her and the male main character either. How can there be? He is as dainty and as pretty as a flower; hence, an actress that is matching his features, like Dilraba Dilmurat) would have been a far better choice in my opinion. Same thing for Love Like the Galaxy, Zhao Luis (for me) does not go with Leo Wu; he is better with Dilraba Dilmurat in The Long Ballad in my opinion. I wish that you can appreciate the fact that I am merely expressing my own personal taste; hence, there is no need to invalidate my perspective as it is no worse or better than someone else's. Personal taste is what it is; personal. :-)

I'd have to say I understand that the actress is not of conventional beaity standards, which is why I believe she was suited for the role, since the character she plays was never meant to be pretty or attractive. It seems that's where our opinions differ, because I personally prefer whoever was playing this particular character to not be of conventional attractiveness, because that's what's the plot intended, but I understand what you mean when you say the male lead is dainty and fairylike and too much of a contrast between him and the female lead seems to lack chemistry.
