- How big might Wilt have looked next to Yao Ming? Here he is next to the original basketball giant from China, Mu Tiezhu, who was listed at 7 foot 5.75 and 353lbs.
Ngl if you look at wilt in pictures where he’s next to other players they’d probably list him at like 7’3 today
True
Wilt self proclaimed to be 7 ft 1 1/16 inches.
@@botaco that’s barefoot too, with shoes today especially he’s closer to 7’3
@GIVNCHI yeah, he looks as tall as Kristaps Porzingis
Any footage of Wilt is great. The most dominating force ever to play the game.
*any game

@@JustLiftUce shut up
@Martin R no
@Martin R 7' 330 lbs how many Reb titles? Blk titles? Lead league in assists? Will any team try to pry him out of retirement at 50? Don't get me wrong, I like Shaq. Not even close. Wilt, Kareem and Shaq
Noticed that because Wilt Chamberlain has a very short neck and small head, his overall body size is not much different than a man 7 ft 5. If you measure from the ground to the top of their shoulders, these two men are the exact same height. When you consider the fact that Chamberlain had extremely long arms and legs, it's quite likely that the 7 ft 1 Wilt Chamberlain had a higher standing reach than the seven foot five player he's standing next to.
So true!
Yeah I noticed that too
As a kid I saw Wilt up close. He was next to me after halftime of a game at Convention Hall in my hometown of Philadelphia. As a retired senior now, I still have not seen, in person another man with the stature and power of Wilt. The best big man in NBA history. IMHO
Was he confidence with his height?
Definitely not a controversial opinion. Basketball players and sports journalists seem to have become better educated about the players who played before they started watching the game.
For a 7 footer Wilt looks so coordinated for his size
When I was a kid in the 1960s, my dad had returned from a trip to San Francisco and said he saw Wilt on the plane ride home. He said Wilt was so tall, he had to stoop while walking through the aisle.
You stood next the greatest athlete of the 20th century.
In 1963 the 76ers practiced at my college, Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. I was a freshman on the college team. One day we practiced right after the 76ers and I noticed Wilt coming out of the shower and he had to duck his head. Later we measured the height of the doorway and it was 7'2". Wilt was taller than that. True story
I believe he's 7'3 someone said the same thing about the doorway.
That's why his nickname was The Big Dipper.
Chamberlain was measured at 216 cm barefoot.
His true he was 7'3"½
Wilt is 7’3 , 7’4. Ppl that think he’s 7’1 is ignorant af, you ever seen him next to shaq (7’1) , shaq looks like his little cousin. Shaquille O’Neal. Shaq was bigger than your house but wilt was taller than him.
Yeah and ppl tryna tell me shaq was 6”11 gtfffff out
People call shaq Superman when this is the real superman
Wilt was really about 7"3
Wilt wasn't taller. The other players exaggerated their real height. Wilt was always shorter than Kareem who was 7'2.
@Exar kun The dark side cosmic entity Wilt was 7''1 1/16 b/f at his peak height. Kareem was 7'1 3/8 b/f in draft measurments, later he caimed to be 7'1 5/8 and 7'1 7/8 always barefoot but was listed as 7'2.
@@andrzejzborowski4920
Both Wilt and Kareem would be listed as 7'3 in today's game.
Kareem was listed as 7'3" in yesterday's game too.
Wilt measured 7-1 1/16 in his bare feet,,the height you list may have been measured in his late years, I believe.
Yes, true on both accounts. I just listed his height which he probably was at the time (1979)
In terms of individual accomplishments he was the TRUE GOAT with 72 NBA records...
very true! number don't lie!
Wilt's real difference wasn't in size alone but in fitness and athleticism which no one has matched yet. He averaged 45 minutes a game for his whole career. He had a 40 inch vertical. He could run 10 second 100 yard dash and a sub 2 minute half. He could long jump over 20 feet and high jump over 6 feet. There may be skilled big men that come along but no one will match that type of athleticism with that size.
As for skill, by far the shot that Wilt took the most was a post fade, so he had plenty of touch and finesse in his game as well. Dude was the first center to ever lead the league in assists. Animal
Wilt was measured at Kansas University . He was exactly 7'1 1/16 (216 cm) barefoot. In 1980 he bet on that he is NOT 7'2. He was measured barefoot standing and laying. He was 7'05 (214). Wilt was always shorter than Kareem who at his peak height was 7'1 7/8 (218), and taller than Bill Walton. This proves that Bill could't have been 7'1 or more. He was shorter that 7'05 Wilt. Look at the commercial with young Shaq. Many of basketball players cheats their height. Wilt didn't.
NΒA players have been measured with shoes in recent years. So in no case is Shaq 7'1. Wilt was 7'1 1/16 barefoot, so about 7'3 today. But even then many heights were overdrawn.
Αrtis Gilmore was listed 7'2 but Wilt was a little taller than him. Ralf Sampson was the funniest case. Everywhere is registered 7΄4 and the 7'2 KAJ was taller than him.
Here's a little fun fact: some NBA players in Wilt time also got measured in 1 inch shoe. So there are players like Willis Reed and Red Kerr that should've been 6'8 instead of 6'9.
@@20fadhilRevolution Reed ws 6'9 barefoot and 6'10 wearing shoes
It’s said MJ was 6’4.5” barefoot, but was always listed as 6’6”. Several years ago, I was on a flight, on which Steve Young and his young family happened to be. Young was listed at 6’2”. I’m 6’. I stood near him at least twice, once while waiting to board, and then when his toddler son “escaped” into the main aisle. Steve sprung from his first-class seat to chase him, and I swooped the kid up and walked to Steve, and handed him off. This kid was a little blondie and I almost said, “your kiddo looks like Joe Montana.” Anyway . . . no WAY he was 6’2”. He was shorter than me by at least an inch.
I think you're the funny one, there are plenty of photos of Ralph and Kareem standing together and Ralph's a little taller than Kareem.
@@alfredodistefanolaulhe2212 Young Sampson may have been .5” taller than Kareem, but that’s about it. 7-4” Mark Eaton was nearly 2” taller than both…
Wilt was a giant of a man it doesn't matter who he is next to he'll appear big and tall
Although it’s hard to tell bc the Chinese player might not be standing fully upright, Wilt doesn’t appear to be 5” shorter. More like 2.5 - 3”.
Maybe 7’4 or 7’3 no way he’s 7’1
What's interesting is that the name of the Chinese center means literally iron pillar. Quite accurate.
This is my favorite youtube channel :'(
Yao Ming prolly had his height listed himself like all players were doing til the NBA stopped it last year. Shaq standing next to wilt was 2 to 3 inches shorter. That guy in this vid would be Yao standing next to wilt.
I saw Wilt play when I was 11, in 1971. In those days, scoreboards were powered by kerosene. 🤣
🤣
Wow, I never saw this footage before, thanks.
Mu Tiezhu has gigantism, just so everyone knows.
And?
That guy looks 2” or 3” (at best…) taller than Wilt….
i like to measure people shoulder to shoulder. Cause i dont think someone having a longer neck or head counts. So i think wilt is a legit 7'2.
thanks for the upload!Never thought this video actually exists. Though in my opinion Mu was more likely 7'4 not 7'5.75. A bunch of pictures can prove he wasn't that tall.
My sailing Like which ones particularly? Genuinely asking because I’d like to know
If you see the photo of Yao Ming and Sabonis, you can tell their height diffence is pretty the same as Mu and Wilt. Also Yao has such a significant height advantage over at least 7'2 Ralph Sampson. If Mu was as tall as Yao, he would be much taller than Wilt.
Srsly where does wca find these vids????
Was Mu measured with shoes? Because I know Wilt was 7'1 and some change barefoot. Then add an inch and a half with shoes?
S yeah bro especially the shoes they wore back then lol
RIP Wilt and Mu
he lost an inch due to age but its the arm length and hand size and speed that put him apart from other big men can the china guy run a 4.4 40 jump 6 ft 7 a run 440 in 46 sec and play 48 min easily and bench 500 ?
Mu has a longer neck, their shoulders are even. Who would you take one on one ?
Mu Tiezhu played against the championship winning bullets back in the day and got destroyed by Wes Unseld. Wilt would dumpster him.
I saw that game!!! Back in that day, it was like either an exhibition or a McDonald's Open type.
Well, Kareem is listed at 7'2 and he looks clearly taller than Wilt in pictures so I'm not sure about his real height.
@Wilfri Castillo The thing is this video suggest either that Wilt was around 7'3 or that the other guy was lying and he was not really 7'5.
It’s mostly the angles. Mu’s height was also probably over estimated, as we have pretty reliable numbers for Wilt.
They're at Pauley Pavilion UCLA
As you can see, Wilt measures close to 7'5 Zhu. Wilt is 7'2.
His shoulders is like the same height as him, also when was this?
Exactly!! People don't realize Wilt Chamberlain had a very unique body type even when compared to other seven-footers.
He had super long legs & arms, with a very tiny torso, short neck & small head.
That made his overall body much bigger than his listed 7 foot 1 size would lead people to believe.
He’s more like 7’3 Yao Ming is def taller.
My dad met him at a grocery store once
No way theres a 4 inch difference
Tiezhu in Chinese literally means iron pole.
哇哦,穆铁柱,中国国家队70年代的传奇中锋,在姚明之前中国最著名的篮球运动员。
还有右下角年轻的张卫平指导,相信中国人都是听着他“”合理”的NBA解说开始喜欢上篮球的!
Look at Wilt, known for being a narcissist, you can see the humility all over his face here, may the "Most High" forever keep his soul...
🐐
BUT CAN HE BALL WITH WILT
Why he mugging wilt like that
This guy really was a beast scored 81 in a game and probably would’ve been a high draft pick and would’ve done well if relations with China were better
He scored 100 in a game!
Billyd I’m talking about Mu Tiezhu lol
Will Barefoot sorry never heard of him was he a giant. Too?

I'm only 6'5 and it still weirds me out when I don't have to tilt my head down at all to maintain eye contact. I can't imagine how bizarre that feeling was for a guy that tall.
Bob Dole how tall were you when you were 17. I’m 17, 199cm tall and was wondering if you grew any taller after the age of 17
@@animalscars3799 I was actually 6'4 when I graduated high school, I grew another inch after I turned 25.
It really freaked me out to get a physical at 25 and have the nurse tell me the same height I'd been for seven years and then when I go back a year later I'm an inch taller.
I found out that while that's not super common, it's not exactly rare either. There's just usually not such a big gap before that last little growth spurt.
E BO hell im 17 and 6’ 7”. I’m always the tallest guy in the room at school. Never met an NBA player but I know I’m the average height for one. Can’t imagine seeing someone 7’ 1” and 300 pounds.
I'm 16 and 6'8... Lol I'm cool 'cuz I got a fitted body and looks like a baby giant hahahaha
Wilt had to be bigger than 7'1
He was measured exactly at 7'1 1/16 (85,0625 in.=216 cm) during his college career. Later in 1980 he was measured again standing 7'0.5 (84,5 in=214,63). But in shoes and with that hairstyle he looked to be 7'2.
@@andrzejzborowski4920 From what I know, you are accurate. Also, when Shaq was on the Howard Stern show many years ago, he said he was actually 6'11".
@@Gunbei2
Starting in 1980, the NBA measured players in their shoes. Wilt was measured barefoot at age 22. It's likely he may have grew some. I know my son was 5'10 on his 21st birthday and now he's 6'3 at 22.
@@VictorLionsTV
Damn!! Meanwhile, I've been 6'4 since I was fifteen lol.
@@Gunbei2 that's another questionable quotes. How can a 6'11 guy totally dwarfed 6'10 ish Big show? Except big show is 6'7 then it's acceptable but no, shaq towers over him even when Big Show got the wrestling heels
On the court, Wilt was bigger then life. Height is secondary. Also, Wilt's birthday is coming up - he'd be 84 on August 23rd (and still playing volleyball).
:)
Agreed
If Mu Tiezhu is 7'6" here, than Wilt would be a legit 7'3".
Wilt is the biggest human being I've ever seen. The first time I saw Wilt play live I was going to my seat when I saw Wilt and he was huge. Then I noticed there was another large player standing behind Wilt that didn't see at first because he was eclipsed by Wilt. 😮
He was big for sure. But, Ted van der Parre was an another level!
At his peak, he was close 7' and was over 360 pounds of pure muscle.
The man also won the World Strongest Man, was very fast and very nimble for a man carrying such weight!
Wilt looks Bigger than 7”1”
He was 7'1 barefoot, the other guy might have been measured in shoes, so in the end Wilt really would be only a couple inches shorter instead of four and a half.
@Tiger Zhong bro kareem was 7'2 barefoot
Wilt was a full 7-1”. The Chinese player looked like stooped down with his neck - I’d say he’s more like 7-3” or thereabouts.
If you look at shoulder height Wilt's are almost level with that dude's, I thought Wilt's neck and head were short in proportion to the rest of him.... really what matters more is standing reach
Wilt was like another race of human, big, fast, tall, smart, charismatic, greatest athlete ever. His stamina and hang time are under rated aspects.
You are wise sir.
Yeah, the African Race 😁😆 #GodsChosenPeople

Wilt was stronger than Shaq- a greater scorer than Jordan- more athletic than LeBron. As his good friend Bill Russell said- "Wilt was superhuman"
It's hard to imagine anyone stronger than shaq!

you blind? Biased? Or ya IQ is just that low?
When you say strength are you referring to in the weight room, on the court or both? Wilt had Shaq beat in a weight room but it’s hard for me to imagine him overpowering Shaq on the court. 🤔
Wilt would have still dropped 50 Points and grabbed 30 Rebounds then and there.
I stood next to him at the Cincinnati Gardens I was amazed at the size of his arms and thighs. They said he had to duck coming through the the locker room door it was 7’3”. They always said he played his height down.
You stood next to who
I thought wilt was 7"1 barefoot
7'1" and a quarter"
I love your videos, please keep making them.
Agreed!

Of course, absolutely priceless as always, and now even an unknown classic like the original "Shaq and Yao" in Wilt and Mu.
There might be an NBA player that was superior to Wilt in one aspect, such as height, or speed, or vertical, etc... But there will never be another NBA player who is superior to Wilt in most categories. The only way we will see that is if science produces a genetically perfect NBA player at some point, which would basically just be taking Wilt's DNA and cloning him.
Even then the clone might not develop the same as Wilt did and end up being worse than the original. So we should respect the one and only legend that is Wilt Chamberlain.
facts but no one is passing him athletically either only height
I'm surprised when people talk about the great international players of all time, they don't talk about Mu Tiezhu. He played in my grandpa's era (obviously) and as my grandpa recall, was the most dominant Asian player of his era as well as all time. In an era where there was the great famine and not that great of healthy Chinese available as athletes, Mu was able to carry team China to basically unbeatable. Obviously, although honorably drafted, Mu's time and the NBA back then just wasn't ready for a Chinese player to play in. However once the reigning NBA Champ the Bullets went to china that I believe included Wes Unseld and Mu demolished Unseld and remember that's the same Unseld that just won MVP as a rookie. So I would say Mu is easily debatable to be one of the great bigs of all time.
Unseld was not Wilt or even Kareem! LOL
That is true, Mu Tiezhu and Sun Mingming were the titans of Asian basketball at the time, but the sociopolitical landscape of the US and Asia in general was just a little too rough back then for them to be able to compete in the NBA

Wilt said he was 7 feet 1 1/16 tall in a story in the Philadelphia Inquiry. Later on in the same year he was given a trophy that was 7 ft and 1 1/16 inch. They both lined up.
Too bad this generation never saw Wilt play. They have no clue how dominant he was. Athletic, fast, ridiculous vertical leap. Still is only man ever to catch the ball after a block, And only man I ever saw who blocked corner jump shots!!! Yes I said corner jump shots. Let’s see the “great” Shaq do that!!!!

Difference between my and wilt is athletic body and 48 minutes non stop playing.
When the two giants fully stand straight (0:30), Mu seems 4 inches taller than Wilt. Mu showed up in a few films and had many photos prove that he was 7"5 or taller.
He seems two maybe three inches taller tops.

What can you say?
The ultimate athlete.
That looks about 2 in difference to me
Regardless of height, Wilt was a BIG man.
Wilt was a big man, but the biggest man I ever saw in person, Andre The Giant! Huge!!!
Wilt would destory Yao Ming.
Yao Ming played in a weaker defense era.
Wilt would win, but Yao wasn't some pushover. He's a guy like Wilt - not a stretched out skinny tall guy like KD or those marathon runners, he's a really tall dude who's proportionally tall - like they took a normal size basketball player and expanded *all* the dimensions to make him bigger.
Guys like that can be deceptively tall because they look normal until you have something to compare them to. Go search for a picture of Shaq and Yao posing together - it shows just how massive Yao really was.
Wilt though, he was one of those true giants and then he was an amazing athlete on top of that - Olympic level if he'd wanted to pursue it.
Well of course a player, giant and athlete like frigging Wilt Chamberlain would have cooked or dealt very well Yao, like other top 5 centers like Kareem, Bill, Hakeem and Shaq would; I'm definitely not asking Yao Ming to 1v1 and beat the best center of all time and most dominant force and center (we couldn't ask BILL RUSSELL to do it, let alone Yao), still Yao was good.
GOAT.
Actually, he was still growing, i guess
