Im 40 years old. Ive been going there since I was 4/5. I can tell you all about that place. Out of all of the stores that have come and gone; Dino's Pizza has outlasted all of them. Dinos is definitely their longest tenant. That hair place as well next to them is a distant 2nd I think. The Yocco's is more recent and was a Pet Store for years. I remember KB toys (Which was originally K&K Toys). There was a Dollar Store, GNC at the end by Jamesway, Take Ten which was an aracade where the Nail Salon by Jamesway was. That place started hurting when the PS1 landed with up to par graphics. There was a Piercing Pagoda there for years in front of the KB. Getrude Hawk had a stand by the Shoe Dept in an awkward spot. The Wall/Fye was there by those kiddie rides. A bunch of center corner jewlers moved out. There was an ice cream place/candy store on the corner of the front right center Oculus spot with the benches. Gamestop was there but I think theyre gone. There was a cookie stand that I think is a vape shop now or was. There was a Footlocker, and down by the Bonton used to be a Fashion Bug and Schuylkill Valley Sporting Goods which held on for a long time. Payless was in their as well next to a Radioshack. There was a lot there back in the day. Im definitely missing a lot.

This mall reminds me of North Hanover Mall in Hanover PA. A dead mall that I wish could have new life breathed into it somehow. I used to travel from the Baltimore burbs up to Hanover, PA to shop at the mall there. Thank you Doomie, always enjoy your content. It's great there are some content creators documentating the slow deaths of what was for about 2 generations our version of downtown, our main street our hangout places. I have so many happy memories of several malls. My first jobs were in malls as were my sons. My dad was a policeman in a small NC town and a part time mall cop at the no longer existing Tarrytown Mall in Rocky Mount. I have mall memories from the 1960s until about 2011. I miss nice malls a lot. Owings Mills mall in Maryland was a beautiful mall, used to love go eat at their food court.

You're in my neck of the woods, nice. The South Mall was never very big of super busy, but I remember going there with my family often when they'd have card shows. I'd always pop in to the Walden Books & K&B Toys. As others have said, Dino's Pizza has been there as long as I can remember and I wouldn't be surprised if they opened with the mall. Love your video. Its always depressing to pop in there, but I'm glad they're making an effort to keep it going.

OMG, this is the same town that Dorney Park is located in, a bucket list park of mine.

ok as someone who runs a business and stresses about having to close all the time, someone please explain how any of these businesses in this mall are operating at a profit absent tons of mail order. How could you work there and see any type of stability muchless future. Malls and their business models just fascinate me. Another great video.

If you're ever in the Lehigh Valley again, there are several other dead or dying malls in the area. Definitely check out Whitehall Mall, Westgate Mall, Palmer Park Mall, Phillipsburg Mall (if there's even anything left of it) and Stroud Mall. The Lehigh Valley has one strong mall, the Lehigh Valley Mall, and it seems to have sucked all the life out of the other (much smaller) area malls because we don't have the population to support more than one mall anymore. On that note, I'm surprised Weis didn't make it there. Off the top of my head, the only other supermarket nearby is Giant on Emaus Ave. At Westgate, the old Weis got replaced with a fancy new Weis in Bon Ton's old space. And Stroud Mall in Stroudsburg got a brand new Shop Rite in one of the anchor spaces.

As for Whitehall, Theyve started demo on it. It got cut up in the late 90s into the forward facing stores. There is still a single hallway left if I remember.

I haven't been to the Whitehall Mall since pre-pandemic and there's that small indoor section that goes back to Kohl's. But Sears closed some years ago. And now Old Country Buffet is being demolished.@@TheSillySils

I was there recently. It was very busy, the most crowded I’ve ever seen it. Mainly between the new mice in the attic stores, the antique shops, although the one antique side closed but the larger one is still open, the arcade, and Dino’s is where they seem to get the most money. They have added an indoor playground as well.

This mall is bland, but I find what sort of saves it for me from not liking it 100% would be that skylight at 4:11 and the areas of the floor that have those salmon pink tiles. Also I think a fountain should be installed to bring a little bit more life to this mall. I still hope it finds some way to stay alive because at the end of the day, I prefer a mall staying up rather than shutting down. Good luck South Mall.

Is there a good mall left in the Allentown area, or is that it?

Lehigh Valley Mall seems to be in good shape, even if JC Penney's is on life support. They got 2 new outparcels: Dave & Buster's and Shake Shack. Every other mall in the Lehigh Valley is either dead or dying.

I live here and the Lehigh valley mall is the last holdout, but Ill say I was in their recently and its definitely on the cusp of entering the death spiral.

The pandemic is killing off most malls. If you're not a high end/destination mall like King of Prussia, American Dream or Garden State Plaza, good luck. @@TheSillySils
