I own this car and I think this is a fair review. I’m 62 years old and call me weirdo but I actually don’t mind the stiffness of the chassis. I find comfort mode for everyday driving compliant enough for my everyday needs. One solution for the stiffness of the chassis that Type R have found is switching out the adaptive dampers module from the Integra Type S which is a direct bolt on that will not throw any codes and still allow all of the drive modes. I live in Midwest so for the winter months I run an 18 inch wheel with performance all season tires. I absolutely love driving this car. I often find myself making excuses to go places just so I can drive the car.

This car looks SO much better in Blue or Red. Geez I don’t like White cars with black wheels, they look utilitarian and have no personality, but I know I’m the outlier of that opinion. Maybe we can convince Honda to make a Grand Touring option, with a softer suspension and more road noise insulation. 😀 But then Acura Type S exists.
Never understood why Honda doesn’t have the shifter like on my '19' SI ; Metal on top and leather around the sides for Hot/Cold weather. I Want this hatchback to put my bike in!!! Thanks for that test! ✌️

The shift knob exists, it's simply the option knob. Championship white will always be the signature color of the Type R as it's what was in Honda's racing team cars. It's also the only unique color for the R, everything else is available in the base Civic.

Actually, as an owner of an Aegean Blue 10th gen CTR- FK8- I much prefer the looks to the follow up. Interestingly I have received numerous unsolicited compliments over the last few years from people of all ages, including women as well as men.
So no, the looks are certainly not universally reviled. Just by most auto writers lazily jumping on the media groupthink bandwagon.
If you like more of a sleeper, fine. Please stop stating a subjective opinion as if it were an indisputable fact.
My first thought. and my wife's, when we saw the new 11th gen FL5 was...disappointment. Which is not to say it isn't an amazing car and well worth owning. Just that seeing it made me want to keep, not trade, my '18 Type R.
And we are in our 60's- so the ' only appealed to 20- somethings' line won't fly either.
I get what Honda was trying to do here on the new one. Just leaves us cold. YMMV.
At least they tweaked it and made some improvements.
Facts are facts, opinions are opinions. The best reviews differentiate the two. You can do better. Otherwise, well done.
I don't care if you like or loathe the styling. I do care that you make it clear it is your take- not some universal truth- it is not.
Here is a real truth- Honda dealers sold every 10th gen Type R they had. At a markup- even back in 2017-2019 when most cars were still sold below MSRP. People don't buy cars they hate the looks of at inflated prices. The market put the lie to every 'me too' car reviewer taking that journalistic shortcut.
    Rant over. Thank you.

    • @Vermonstered
      @Vermonstered 10 місяців тому +1

Boy racers won't be able to afford the car for another 5-10 years. It's not the suspension setup is overly stiff, as it uses the exact same components as the Integra Type S, it's just the damping in tuned for Honda's own test track, Suzuka which is F1 smooth. You can install the Integra Type S dampening module and get the Type S softer suspension.

@@BlueCivid The wheel rate is likely different between the daily hatch you drive and the Type R so you can't directly compare the spring rates. The hardware between the Type R and the Integra Type S is exactly the same. Same shock, same spring, same geometry, same tire. Simply the damper is programmed to be a step stiffer. I used to daily a late 90's Honda with 12kg/mm and 10kg/mm springs but that's on a double wishbone system and it is definitely stiffer than the FL5.

🤦 No one in their right mind thinks the FK8 is a proper track looking car. Especially with how much is non functional and tacked on. A GT3 RS is a proper track looking car and everything there is functional. No track car has a bunch of fake carbon, fake vents and so much non functional weight. @Xchax3 9 місяців тому +1

Hideki Kakinuma, the lead engineer for the development of the FL5 spoke on how the FK8 had many physical designs that created more drag. While the FL5 has a functioning aerodynamic shape. The Type Rs of old did not have a gundam/out-the-factory-with-a-bodykit tacked on design. The FK8 was more of an evolution of the FK2 only. So it's laughable that people think it doesn't look "Type R enough" or that it's a "proper track looking car" when it is faster because of its shape and upgrades. It's a return to form to Type R instead of being a tacked on body kit of an exterior.
