Anyone who kills another person, should be executed. A life for a life. Why should a murderer live, when his victims, have died at his/her hands. The only exception to my thinking is Gypsy Rose, whose own mother had been killing her bit by bit ever since Gypsy was a small child.
I noticed a flaw. In a real electrocution, natural sea sponges are used to line the electrodes in the headpiece and the ankles. Apparently, these are a better conductor of electricity when wet. I noticed in the scene that they used a yellow synthetic sponge on Cyril's head when they were placing the headpiece on. In one of Florida's last electrocutions before the state switched completely over to lethal injection, synthetic sponges were used which caught fire under the helmet in the execution of Jesse Tafero, and resulted in a rather grisly scene.
@@jonn443 ... In that movie, the one execution was deliberately botched by that evil guard, when he didn't soak the sponge in water. Of course, this was a Hollywood dramatization.

A condemned inmate sent to die in the electric chair would not be allowed to wear a sports jersey. That element here is the work of Hollywood screenwriter fantasy. In Virginia they would wear a short-sleeved light blue pullover shirt and a pair of blue jeans with the right leg cut off above the knee. Seat belt style clasps would not be used for the chest restraints as shown here as they would potentially get hot during the execution and could melt. The control panel used to actuate the chair in this dramatized version is a fairly close facsimile of the control panel used in Tennessee at the River Bend State Prison for their electric chair. Also, there would not be a contact visit so close to the time of the execution. The last visit between family members and the inmate often is done with the inmate restrained with handcuffs or through a plexiglas divider in an interview room.
The electric chair control panel is actually the invention of "Dr. Death" Fred Leuchter. Leuchter rebuilt Tennessee's electric chair and installed his electrical apparatus to operate the chair at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution. The control panel looked like an actual Leuchter electric chair control panel. Perhaps the producers borrowed one from Leuchter to use in the O'Reily execution scene on "Oz."
These are merely cinematic dramatizations. The second one is absolutely ridiculous. They never shaved the part of his head that would ensure proper conduction to brain directed current, which ostensibly makes death more sudden and less barbaric by the use of conductive water placed by a soaked sponge directly the the brain. Similarly the “eye strap” is ridiculously false as well. They cover the whole face so as not to show the bulging eyes, clenched jaws, and the entire face distortion. If you want to depict executions, especially their emotional impact on family of the convicted cinematically, at least do your damn homework. None of these directors have witnessed a real execution by electric chair. I have. It is far more disturbing, frightening, and traumatic, even for some who lost their family to the condemned. Hmmmm if you want to show people the “barbarism” of execution, show a real execution (or AT LEAST a TRUTHFUL and COMPLETE depiction rather than a poorly dramatized version.) None of the directors even considered the voiding of the bladder and bowels that occur just before or immediately after death. This is nothing more than pure Hollywood supposition. Believe me that witnesses see more than the average person imagines. At least the first execution depicted is a slightly more realistic process and depicts other death row inmate behavior.
