I was told the same thing for years !!!!!! Need an outside income to make ends meet. Started a dairy farm in 1986.... 20 milk cows.....and 160 acres. We went through the 1988 drought.......bought all the hay for the cows for that year. 1989 all the seeding froze out ! Again bought everything ! Since........we have everything paid for.......debt free. NO outside income Only the 35 milk cows paid for everything ! Most farmers are not dedicated .....rather have toys and spend time on " vacation " . When farming is a vacation ! Small farmers can make it today !
The issues continue. I know I was raised on a large ranch in New Mexico and the pressures were ever present as a kid and what to do with schooling and the draft facing your next decision. Ranching and FFA gave me good grounding.
This is and was very informative and dang, I can see the love of the job and land but wish y'all didn't have to struggle so much. My hats off to All of you and what you do!!
Ranchers are extremely intelligent people. They laugh at the "Outsiders." They have more KNOWLEDGE that many with a ((FORMAL)) Education. They just don't tell you about it!! THEY MANAGE OUR LANDS..YOU'LL MISS EVERYTHING IF THEY'RE GONE!
What you say Mr Baker about Indians adopting cowboys ways and still protecting their culture makes sense because both are tied to the land. If they look after it, it looks after them, if your at one with it,it is at one with you. To know it well you need to walk and know every inch in all its moods.
Thank you for this informative video. Has anyone tried integrating dairy farming with ranching in order to be profitable? I think it will work because of the daily income from selling milk.
If I may ask what do you do for multiple cash streams? I'd imagine you can't have a normal 9-5 with the time commitment of a ranch. It is my dream to more to Wyoming and ranch with my family.
To be on the land and in cattle you need to be a little cautious, a little pessimistic,a lot optimistic with a lot of realism and conservatism,a sense of fun and adventure, a conservatiomist who hates having a loan.
Normal loans and their fee and interest rate and penalties are ridiculous as droughts ,poor years, floods and poor prices and poor government policies make for a situation very few people or businesses have to deal with.
Only owe what your personal property s can sustain..and you LL get along fine..but steal lands met for the last remaining wildlife, and you become the ENEMY ...
Govt. goes and gives ear to people crying about how hard ranching is. Ok. Well get your arse back to the city and sit in rush hour traffic two times a day working for a big company with someone looking over your shoulder all the time.

@Yunan Yeniçeri is it a choice to do it so unprofessionally and make such low profit? You would think they would do a better job and actually make some money.
Yes all you need is too feed cattle a little bit. no need to chase them with horses or 4 wheelers. I can move my cattle any place with a bucket of cattle cubes. Rodeo Reed blows his siren and those cows come a running to get a bit of cake.
Ranchers and farmers always crying a river, let them try working in a cubicle living paycheck to paycheck and then tell me how bad that ranching life is
Bless all the ranchers. Keep up the good work. America needs you now more ever.

May I ask if you have any resources on where somebody could get started on educating themselves about how to accomplish this?
@@Solanyx Resources on what ? Milking cows ? Saving money ? Being dedicated to farming ? Etc.......etc ?

Love hearing old time ranchers stories and the lifestyle!
Beautiful

they have nothing on us Australians, this was like watching a cave man documentary haha
Charlie Bravo you better stay on the Snowy River cause the real vaqueros and cowboys came from the WEST
Research the tall grass Prarrie in Eastern Oklahoma. They use buffalo and fire and it works pretty good.

Born and raised in the middle of nowhere I was . Ranching is in my blood. All sold out now.
maybe all leveraged out in 2020. The Williamson act is being misused by real estate capitalists to draw federal money NOT to ranch.
Sehr schöne 👏👏👏👍🌷
It says on google that the Wolff family is engaged in auctioning ranch land.

As a rancher you need multiple cash streams to survive. I own a Texas ranch as it gets in your blood.
If I may ask what do you do for multiple cash streams? I'd imagine you can't have a normal 9-5 with the time commitment of a ranch. It is my dream to more to Wyoming and ranch with my family.
I fall in love 🥰

I like working in a ranch.
Can you hire me?
What do You mean bybackward Charlie bravo?
It's a shame for 1000 acres paying out over 2-5 million to own land. Ranchers and loggers largest land owners very few are private anymore
Is beautifull👍👍
nice

Big corporations with the help of the government destroyed ranching.
Wrong.... ranchers destroy their ranches !
