This song is how I learned the points on the compass in German: Nord, Süd, Ost und West! Bit like how Sonne taught me to count to 10 in German (and for the umpteenth time, that song includes the line "Und die Welt zählt laut bis zehn"!)
Where are you going? Where? I'm going with myself from east to south Where are you going? Where? I'm going with myself from south to west Where are you going? Where? I'm going with myself from west to north There he comes running With the flag in his hands My land, my land Here you are in my land My land, my land Here you are in my land My land, my land Where are you going? Where? I'm going with myself from north to east Where are you going? Where? I'm going with myself from east to west Where are you going? Where? I'm going alone from land to land. And nothing and no one Invites me to stay My land, my land Here you are in my land My land, my land Here you are in my land My waves and my shore Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaaah A voice out of the light Falls out off the sky's face Tears apart the horizon Where do you go to, here is no space left for you This is my land This is my land This is my land My land, my land Here you are in my land My land, my land Here you are in my land My waves and my shore My land Banished, my land Banishing, my land Forgotten, my land I've got no place to stay My land

The song basically pokes fun at racists and bigots. The protagonist of the song is a refugee, but he is rejected in every country he enters, so he has to travel from east to south, to west etc. The punchline comes in the bridge section where he is even denied to enter heaven because he has the "wrong" religion.
as a keyboard player and pianist I kinda wish the instrumentals were a bit different these keyboard riffs are soo annoying in how they stick to memory lol
It really isn't. Of course, Rammstein's songs are always open to interpretation, but yours is ignoring half of the lyrics. Personally, I'm going with the interpretation one of the band members shared in the making of video for this song: The song is about someone without a home, traveling the world to find a place to stay (that is the person which goes north, south, east, and west). But wherever they go, someone "comes running with a flag" and proclaims that this is his land, and there is no room for anyone else. The chorus is therefore sung by the antagonist. Basically, the song is about nationalists wrongfully claiming a country is theirs and turning away anyone they don't like.
@@minamimoto2193 You're completely right. There's just a bunch of people in the international fan circles that can't handle that Rammstein is pretty much a lefty band with lefty lyrics and world views
@@Hannie.Schaft Yeah, in one of the upper comments one dude was poking fun at ww2 germany based on the song, and some idiot was like "who tried to free the world from bankers? mein land". It's a song criticizing that countries don't let immigrants in, so it's a pro immigration song. Its about a guy without nationality trying to live somewhere and going from North to East etc., but no country accepts him and thus sends him away
