this is so good, for me it symbolises the journey into the unknown for a certain goal, it's not clear you're gonna make it, the journey is a difficult one with many sacrifices made throughout it, but you keep looking ahead. a bit like life in general
I feel like any chance of this story having a happy ending is basically next to zero and at most we'll get is a very bittersweet one. Like in regards to Riko's mother I can't help but feel like some mundane tragedy befell her at the literal bottom of the world, namely that she had to pick the correct cave to go down at a fork and she just picked the wrong one and ended up trapped because you can't climb back up at that depth. Still the sheer mystery of what the Abyss even is and what lies at the bottom keeps me interested though I prefer to read the Manga in on and off again bursts
I swear if that wrong path trap idea results in Riko or Nanachi getting softlocked before reaching the bottom... That said, doesn't the curse only proc if you ascend 10 consecutive meters?

To me the anime is in many aspects a dose of existential dread and a some antidote to it. The suffering of facing the abyss of life is more brutal and cruel you can't even imagine it and it gets worse the further you go but maybe it's all worth it through the value of all the experiences and the unexpected little miracles and good we can sometimes find even tho fleeting. That is what Rico is saying then she says it was all worth it going this far down. It's the author asking us are we happy to have witnessed what we did and hoping that like Rico we will also agree. Although personally i would say no, not when you have to move past child torture and abandon moral standards to continue. I. The context of existentialism there may not be another way but through it, even if youl brake your self into another shape just to get further past it. The strings of ascending back to balance and normalcy may become too much for someone who faced too much existential dread... You might have to shed your old skin and leave it behind, hoping youl become a more resilient hollow, somethin maybe half human even though there's a threat of total collapse, depersonalization ( the cronenberg people like Mitty who was too pure to handle the existential reality of life, decay and suffering to be left a functioning person. ) Reading the later episodes of the manga and out of order it seems to become somewhat less horrific. We get over the death and gore easier, because there's so much of it.. but also because people like faputa who seem to not even care anymore about pain when they can rebuild their form from the world around her,( literally eating cute things sometimes) because she understands there's value in her although she of course learns there's more than one type of value around. Not just righteous vengeance( what we feel towards scum like bondrewd) but i the journey, which ultimately, despite consisting mainly cursed existence offers miracles too( Mitty living again which we would not ever expect possible before it mlwas made possible by the author) nevertheless we have to sometimes discard even these miracles to keep moving. To keep discovering. That perhaps even though different peoples journey ends i. Different ways and at different levels of the abyss they become value which cumulates and ferments into new unexpected forms. In this form even the miserable end of a lowly slug becoming dinner of some bird or a fish riki eats is valuable. does something. Is and was something. Plays it's part. However small or miserable.
Aaaa simplemente hermoso, Made in abyss tiene un muy especial lugar en mi corazón tanto por la trama y también su increíble música. Espero con ansias la segunda temporada. Como diría Bondrewd, Subarashi!

This anime saved my life. If it wasn't for it being made, I wouldn't be here. It made me want to live long enough to see how it ends, and then, find my own abyss to explore.
