This is basically World 2 and I'm LOVING it. Rise was fun and all for 300-400 hours but it stagnated fairly quickly after that, meanwhile World I've played for 1200+ and just started a new playthrough for the 5th time.
all MH games are in one of two categories, the main titles and the offspins, World is technically MH 5, Wilds is MH 6, they are part of the main series where the focus is on the core of the game around tracking, preparing and hunting monsters. Rise is part of the spin offs which often test new mechanics, Rise tested wirebugs, increased mobility, more open maps, basically it tested what MH would feel like if the focus was more on the fighting part and made the hunters more op, the features were well received so a lot of the mechanics will be reused in wilds. Capcom is really briliant in how they make MH series and I am extremely happy they started releasing them on PC which reduces the hardware limitations of portable consoles.
I am confident they will get most things right. What I am anxious to see is whether they nail navigation again. World's areas did a great job with these intertwining vertical designs. Their was a lot of space to explore but you never felt you were really too far away from anything. I see this time that ground-level traversal is much faster, but I never look forward to the prospect in a game where I spend too much time watching myself move in a straight line through open space. Of course it makes sense for a desert setting to be open and void of landmarks. That is the main reason why I still have a ton of faith, but when it came to Rise I was left wondering how much of its environmental stepbacks could be pinned on Switch hardware and how much of it was just how the devs wanted it to be.
