Absolutely love kokedamas. With some farns u can make them look like bonsais (actually kokedamas were originally the bonsais of the poor, as those pretty bonsai pots used to be very expensive) .... my dream is to have an entire hanging garden of kokedamas.
These are awesome, I love the hanging ones! The best way to get the soil off the roots is rinse them under the tap with room temp water, if they roots are healthy you can get them pretty clean this way, it is a good way to check the health of your roots and see if there is any rot you need to cut off first.
Wanted to just say thanks I very much enjoy your videos I find them helpful and informative. You have helped with relieving uncertainties and fear of working with plants
so easy..... so digestable talk........ full scientific details in lay man voice... what else a subscriber requires......... love ur ideas.............
Who would have guessed, that my skills at making Mud Pies at the age of 4 is now called kokedama in 2021. Back when I was a kid in the mountains on NC we used red dirt. All jokes aside great video post as usual. Thank you for the wealth of information
this is so cool, thanks for sharing you inspired me to do one. I wonder if using a loose net would do the trick as well, instead of the string. I'm glad I found your channel, you're so talented!
I have never seen these! Wow what an amazing idea. Asian designs are so incredible. You did a wonderful job explaining this. Thank you so much. I think my shower area needs one of these gems. So off to the nursery I go! 🤗
Sheet moss is often preserved with nasties like formaldehyde and can contain dyes so they looks less shitty. You can harvest and propagate your own moss (look to SerpaDesign for his tips) very easily and it will last for years and not kill your plant.
I love kokedamas but have you ever tried making an ikebana, it's a type Japanese flower arrangement that combines art and floristry similar to kokedamas and bonsai
I have never heard of these! But after reading your comment I googled them and they are BEAUTIFUL! I will try to make one and see how it goes :) Thanks so much for sharing!
Ikebana is the most beautiful way to arrange the flowers or should I say the little trees and bushes and anything else that we can find in the forest! :)
I have been making these for years, I think that they are absolutely beautiful! Ive done all of mine with succulents. thank you so much for making this video! I am going to make a few more with other plants now! great videos!
this looks absolutely fabulous!! I am definitely going to make one or two of these! Your videos are great, you cover all that you need to know! thanks so much!
When you form the peat moss & bonsai soil into a ball, and then split it in half to insert the plant ~~ I'm just wondering instead why you just don't form the PM/soil mixture directly around the roots of the plant and skip that extra step? Thank you for sharing his video!!! I'm excited to make these for Christmas gifts🌲
That is beautiful! How is your succulent kokedama doing? Did you use the bonsai soil for that one too? Why do people not recommend this? Thanks so much again! Love your videos 😊🌿!
Do you have a 99Cent store near you or dollar tree? I usually find most of what I need there and then try to find the things they don't have on sale if I can't tweak it with 99 cent or dollar tree finds and I look for pots and dishes at thrift stores too. Also, find plants outside, or ask a neighbor or friend for cuttings or seeds. If you try you can find ways to make things for free or super cheap! Nothing more satisfying than to create something wonderful for free or next to nothing.
Go into a woods anywhere road side....gather moss or woodsy plants. Go to a dollar store for soil and fishing line boop there you go . Just use your imagination and you will be good to go.
Hi!! Before I get to my question I just wanted to say that I found your videos on Pinterest around 930am-ish....?, followed them to UA-cam and after the 2nd video, promptly subscribed to your channel and THEN I seen you had a Facebook page soooo I liked & followed you there also lol. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, LOVE, L.O.V.E. your channel and how you go about explaining and showing how to do everything. I haven't been able to stop watching (shhhhhh, don't tell hubby lol) and it's now almost 3pm 😨😊 and I haven't even made a dent in your posts/vids. But, I do have a question. My backyard is 85% all wooded and we're going to be cleaning and cutting some diseased/rotting/leaning tress down and clearing a small section for now. In this (I call it my grove section lol) area there's TONS of moss...on rocks, trees, and as groundcover. I want to do something(s) with it. With all your know how and the knowledge you've picked up along the way maybe you'd have an idea or info because I'm not having luck finding anything really concrete. I'd like to make a living moss wreath, with moss planted/showing only, preferably for inside. Using fresh, live roots and if needed maybe a half or quarter inch of their root/dirt bottoms. Is this possible.....without harming or worse yet, killing the beautiful LIVING moss?? Thank you for you help, regardless of my question above, and for all your awsome videos!! Samaa R. Rhode Island
very nice work! *but a little correction, the plant you‘ve made is not a fern even it is often called one. It‘s the same as with the „foxtail fern“. Both of them are „Asparagus“
I'm so curious if this works with orichids?🤔 I only need to use the moss....i try growing my orchids in unorthodox ways....full water cultivation, semi, one's mounted on a really large clam shell ..love watching every one of your videos! Esp in the am with my coffee 💚 now I'm obsessed with these moss balls...Amazon here I come!😂 Thank you Laura!!!!
I gotta try this looks so easy... check out Irene's version on leafing around, she adds more than 1 plant. I like your green moss better than with the spagmum moss cuz it's green looks better
Another awesome video. They did a piece on these on Gardeners' World a while back and I wanted to try....you've inspired me to give it a go now; ideal when the dark winter weather means I can be inside and try this with some houseplants :D
Love them. You did a great job. Thanks for the video. Could you please give me some plants names that I can use and is adaptable for this project and also where did you found the material that you used?
Great idea, if you cut a kitchen sponge into little pieces and mix it with your soil it tends to hold a little moe water in between waterings, cheers love the video. Also works on hanging baskets but cut into bigger squares.
What I liked most about this video, you did not waste a minute & was just to the point and you spoke really really fast. It was spot on.
I'm already plant obsessed, so I'm going to have these everywhere.
I had never heard of Kokedama until today when I got an invitation to a workshop! I loved this video, thank you!
Explained very well. I will give it a go soon.😊
So stinking cute! Love how you displayed them....especially the wood "saucer." You have inspired me to try this, thanks! 🌼

I saw another video whether they did it the way you pointed out. Formed the ball around the root ball.
I love it! Never knew about these moss balls. Terrific inspiration. Thank you
That is beautiful! How is your succulent kokedama doing? Did you use the bonsai soil for that one too? Why do people not recommend this?
Thanks so much again! Love your videos 😊🌿!
Likely bc Kokedamas retain a lot of moisture and succelents can be moisture sensitive and rot
this is Bree and thank you so much for this tutorial. i will definitely be trying this out.
Thanks for sharing such helpful tips
Hi! Loved this video and super excited to try this. I wondered if you could use this style of gardening for herbs or even strawberries?
