The saddest part of the trailer is that "So?!?!" part. Its basically shouting "Yeah we changed alot of this story! Call it out! See what happens!" Its like the abusive lover who knows they're caught but wants the fight.

As a poc I'm tired of seeing movies where instead of actors being put in movies for their acting skills that would fit the character they're acting as, but they're put there just for their race, and then make it all about their race. Its literally more offensive then if they just left the characters the damn same, I just hate being pandered to and being seen more like a money making device than a person.

    • @dragonstooth4223

I always thought it would be more offensive to be cast for race and not because the actor is the right fit for the role too. I mean acting is cut throat and all, but how much mental gymnastics do you have to do to ones self to make that okay in ones own head? it means you aren't the best for the role, its not even that your are good enough for the role, you just check the right box on the forms.
original roles, built from the ground up to reflect the specialness, uniquiness and amazingness of each race is what we need, not just hey look at this. leave that for fan fiction.

It's not only pandering, I think. I think that reducing a person to its skin colour, ethnicity or any other arbitrary attribute is the ultimate racist mindset. Racism in the name of anti-racism, that's the woke game.

Obviously they would cast a talented poc, not just any. The question is why would they have a bunch of minorities come for the casting of white characters in the 1st place. Same with Ariel, if they make a new mermaid movie entirely, there wouldn't be outrage, but a black girl plays Ariel, red hair, Part of your world, her yellow fish friend, Sebastion....everything identical to the original 1989 except the race. The excuse of casting for only talent isn't reasonable, cus not sure what did the mermaid in the book look like but Ariel sure as hell white as fuck, then if you arent a bias person and just simply want to make a remake without giving a shit about virtual signaling, you would cast a white girl, and there shouldn't be any poc in the 1st place. And dont tell me this black girl acts better than a bunch of white girl, it could be both ways, a place where white is the majority u tell me u couldn't find a white that can act and can sing at the same time? And man, i could tell from thousands of miles away the prince is sure as hell stay WHITE. U gotta have pay back to the old time movie, when a white man comes to a foreign country, save them then have the native love interests or someshit. Im East Asian btw, not sure that count poc but atleast im not white.

Thats the thing thou, anything with a huge fanbase is smartest to stick as close to the source material as possible.
So whar you do for divetsity is create new unique stories and characters.
Some work like Samu L Jackson as Nick fury if the actors get picked cuz they nail the role and its possible within the context of the univetse.
Like medieval europe doesnt habe much black or brown people. Yet instead of diving into the cool ideas of african or middlr eastern folk talrs and mitthos in terms of movies, games or a seties they keep forcing it into alrready exsusting stories.

*Here’s an idea for a Peter Pan movie, cos I’m bored* : instead of remaking the old story with little change… have Peter rescue several children from the horrors of Blitz London.. he takes them to Neverland - as a semi distraction from the war - and has to struggle being a father figure to children - when he hasn’t and NEVER will finish growing up himself… Hook, is a pirate who’s glory days have long gone since he escaped to Neverland after the pirate age died out so he can live a never ending life of piracy - clinging onto old accomplishments- he isn’t even that much of a bad guy as much as he is a reminder to Peter of adult responsibilities - which makes him a reflection of what Peter is afraid of - thus they are enemies by a mere misunderstanding… in the end - Peter goes back to living in London and accepts responsibilities of living in the real world - as he undertakes the job of escorting children and families to Air Raid shelters.. while Tinkerbell, visits the dead bodies of those who died in the Blitz and sprinkles fairy dust on their bodies - so their souls can fly away..

    @cuff2860 Рік тому +51

“They’re fictional characters,” I loathe this statement.
Yes, they are fictional characters but that means VERY little when you take into account the abstract nature of the written word. History, from far enough back, is no different than a character in a fictional story (if said character is grounded in some reality).
We know George Washington was a real person BUT how often do we find things to idolize, admire, or even hate things about him? Pretty often. His triumphs are still recognized today and the fact that he owned slaves is equally acknowledged and yet, if you changed his name, his story could easily become something of fiction because that’s all his story is today; a memory. It is a written account of a life that requires imagination as much as it does an ability to read.
Fictional characters like Ariel, Wendy or so many countless others are all important just as they were written because they represent the legacy of the author who penned them into existence. In light of Roald Dahl's works recently being tampered with, this is made even more apparent because ANY changes to them suddenly remove that work from the true story. Did ancient man need to know that the gods had X-colored skin in order to relate to their struggles, heroics, and tragedies? No. Because that's the beauty of stories. They transcend race. Like music, stories can speak directly to the heart because as a species - we can project ourselves into a situation and for a brief moment, become one with that story.
When reality is abstracted by time, the two become the same. Both are stories, both provide lessons, and both can carry the weight that individual people can relate to; sometimes more so than figures living to this day.
So no, they are not “just fictional characters”, they are stories. Stories that should remain just as they were intended with only the slightest of changes, if any at all per new telling. Stories are timeless and to change them like Hollywood has been doing only dilutes their importance.

    • @MarvinPowell1

I'll say what you said in an even quicker version:
They're fictional characters and worlds that you (woke people) *didn't create.* So you have no right to ruin them to push identity politics. You want to push propaganda onto people, create your own characters and spend years getting them to be liked by millions of people first.

The most annoying thing about all this is that when i got angry that they made ariel black, all people thought was " oh hes just racist and he doesnt realize " when in reality im just sitting here thinking " why? why on earth do they need to make a race swap when so many people loved Princess and the frog? " oh yeah thats right cuz if they made that movie, these woke morons would find a way to call it racist. They would see the movie as stereotypical and racist and wouldnt accept it, no matter how true or loved it is. The truth is, these people need something to hate and dont want diverse things they want anti-white things.

Here’s the thing! Disney used to be FANTASTIC at adaptations. Frankly, most of their most popular shows ARE adaptions of something (fairytales or classic novels), and they’ve done well adapting stories to a new environment or with a whole new take (e.g. treasure planet adapted from treasure island). It is OKAY to make adaptions and take excessive liberties with portrayal, environment, and characters. There is absolutely no issue with that. The problem comes from these “remakes” that straddle the line between rehashing an old beloved take on a previous adaption, and writing something new. They need to pick one and stick to it, but they’re too focused on the easy cash grabs from nostalgia, and too stubborn not to make what they see as “much needed mordernization” to do so. If they re-adapted some of the same stories WITHOUT rehashing the old adaptions, much of the issues people have with them would for the most part cease to be issues imho.

and the primary reason is that at no point in the entire film/6 season TV show, game, did they belittle anyone due to race or gender,
every character both good and evil are intelligent, pragmatic, and competent. and they are being judged for their character and actions, not the color of their skin
it also helps that all 4 are set in the future too.

Here is where I think everyone gets confused when people complain about certain castings. Lets use Live Action Ariel as an example. It all depends on purpose. If they held auditions where they had many women wanting to play the role of many different races but Halle Bailey was found to be the best of all that auditioned, then that's amazing because they got the best actress available who also just happened to be a woman of color. But what more than likely happened was they either had in their minds that the casting had to be a woman of color or it was on the casting card "has to be a woman of color". They more than likely had all these different women of different races and when they had to narrow it down their first criteria was "is she white? Yes. then she is out." As you mentioned, Billie Dee Williams being cast as Harvey Dent in 1989 was hardly talked about. This is probably because they held auditions and found him to be most what they were looking for and not to fill some quota. The issue stems from how they market it. They cast certain people in lead roles so that when their horribly written movie or TV show bombs they can just claim sexism or racism. Most movie goers have no issues with strong women or women/men of color as leads. Aliens, Mulan, V For Vendetta, Kill Bill, Black Panther, Silence of the Lambs, Everything Everywhere All At Once. One of the best modern examples of how a movie should be is, say it with me, Top Gun: Maverick. A diverse cast without making it the focus. I remember reading that they originally had a scene where Phoenix was pointed out as a female pilot hanging with the boys but when they discussed it with real female pilots, they were told by the pilots that what they want to depict never happens. So instead they have Phoenix, Payback, Fanboy, and Coyote in the story without ever mentioning their race or gender because in our everyday lives its normal. By calling attention to someone who is breaking the gender/race stereotypes, they are ultimately undermining the very concept of equality by implying that this is the exception and not the status quo. So in the context of Top Gun, if they said "whoa Phoenix is a girl among men" then they are ultimately saying that women pilots are not normal or at the level of men, but by not pointing it out then it sends the message they ultimately wanted to send that women are on the same level as men to the point where no one cares because of how normal it is. Same goes for race.

Critical Drinker made an interesting point about this movie
he said that in the original story the author said the Lost Boys were babies who fell out of their prams
but a girl would be too smart to let that happen
he pointed out that even in the original story they paint the picture that girls are smarter and more mature than boys
but now Disney wants to undermine that in this new live action remake for woke points or whatever
by making some of the Lost Boys girls, not only is it complete nonsense but you also completely remove that commentary that girls would be too smart to end up lost
so in way Disney's actually doing the inverse of what it claims it's doing
they say it's empowering women and creating diversity but at the same time you're taking away women's competence
what does that really say about you as a company and how you view women
Drinker points out that Wendy is the mature one who makes all the boys realize they can't be children forever and they need to grow up
but in this live action remake she's just another Hollywood "strong woman" stereotype
just acting like all the other boys
and what does that say about how you view women
you took away what made Wendy Wendy
in the name of female empowerment you're taking away empowering women
it's becoming more and more obvious the more they do this

I watched the trailer and this movie looks awful. I don't like that they tried to make it "woke" by adding a bunch of stuff and also a lot of actors don't look like their characters.Since most people remember the appearance of the animated characters,I think that they should have tried to find actors that somehow look like them. But that's just my opinion. The 2003 live action did a great job with the casting for example.
Personally,my favorite peter pan movies will always be "Peter pan 2: Return to Neverland" and the 2003 live action. I'm going to rewatch "Hook " because I haven't seen it for a very long time and I noticed that a lot of people say that they like it in the comments.

The thing about Peter Pan is that it is always going to be a tricky story with a paradox. At first, it is about the desire to be children who always want to play in fantasy land without responsibility. At the end, the clock is ticking and adulthood will come inevitably. Disney with their constant nagging of adults how to live their lives while remaking their past glories, is already a mockery of the points of Peter Pan.

@@suzygirl1843 GenX are middle-aged adults now, and I don' t know wtf alpha gen is. When Walt Disney, Avery and other legendary animators were alive, they don' t made animation just for children. Entire families, old and young went in to the theatres and watch Tom killing Jerry. The original film, ended with the father gather around his family, remisniscing the dreams and fun he used to have as a child. That' s acknowledgement that the time children playing fantasy should be treasured, is an age-old principle that most parents know or adults already came with on their own.
And what principles did Disney, the giant conglomerate, been trying to teach that everyone hasn't already been taught in elementary school? Edit: Frankly, I could not cared about Peter Pan. Just point out the contradiction between what the story is about and what the company are doing. Having Disney teaching principles, like having an adult video site teaching safe sex.

I loved the part where everyone assumes anyone who dislikes these changes MUST be white and male...because somehow:
    A. Only white people are intelligent enough to spot blatant pandering apparently.
    B. White and Men has somehow become synonymous with 'opinions that don't count as much as other races/genders', furthering sexism and yes, RACISM.
    C. This method of mental gymnastics somehow makes it easier for folks to ignore the fact that these thought patterns make them BIG *FAT* HYPOCRITES.
I noticed a lot of folks 'nettled' by the 'Diversity is a noble goal' remark', and what I have to say to this is I feel good stories, good actors, that make for good movies is a noble goal.
Because in the 90's, and yes even the 80's, Diversity was EVERYWHERE...it just wasn't the damn focus of the film. There where just great actors, great characters, who happened to be of varying ethnicity.
