Pete! Reading his books helped me stay sober.
Thanks!
Pete Hamill, I am having trouble finding the right words to describe him. But I will try my best. He is a treasure and the guardian of what makes New York city the most interesting and possibly the greatest city on earth. I have only been to New York City once in my life for just under a week and I will always have a special place in my heart and soul for this most important city. I have been a fan of Pete Hamill from the very first time I heard him speak and sharing stories about that which he loved most, his New York.
Pete Hamill took me out of War Glen he rode his April 1966 column from Vietnam scribing mortar shell hitting the Earth and blowing Clyde's of dirt rock and a leather boot in the air. He wrote that that boot used to have a human foot in it that belonged to the son of a mother and the brother of a sister and the son of a father! That changed me forever. I wrote him from Bridgeport Connecticut in college revealing what he has done and thanking him for it. 3 days later I get a letter in return from him thanking me sayings what I shared with him makes it all worthwhile. He is one of the most beautiful soul in all eternity. Dr. Joel Taylor DC Sonoma California.
This dude was Old New York, personified!
